The Outsiders Hcs - Blog Posts
If NO ONE will talk about the connections between Encanto and The Outsiders, I will.
-the characters, okay, the character crossovers,
Ponyboy Curtis is Mirabel Madrigal (the quirkyyyy one who thinks differently/is differently main character energy)
Sodapop Curtis is Isabel Madrigal (the pretty one who often gets seen as only beautiful/perfect and shallow because of it, but really do have a kind soul and are willing to sacrifice so much for their family)
Darry Curtis is Luisa Madrigal!!!!!! (The strong one, heavily depended on for physical/emotional labor, always stressed and worried about taking care of the family)
Two bit Mathews is Camilo Madrigal (the comedic character that drops hints of a deeper person/meaning but no one ever talks about it, also secretly tired of having to keep up the jokes all the time and never being trusted with anything serious)
Johnny Cade is Antonio Madrigal (shyer more dependent character who is close to having a massive character change~ possibly coming of age)
Dallas Winston is Bruno Madrigal (I see the connection here not in personality but how people act about these types of characters- abandoned, taboo characters who get shoved away, deemed as wicked)
Steve Randle is Delores Madrigal (often ignored but actually carries a big part in the plot which is never discussed- this character has a lot connections and uses them, also worth noting that Delores kinda treats Mirabel like Steve treats Pony with the innocent seeming snarky remarks, if you don’t understand I am referring to “Oh, she didn’t get one” when talking about gifts which was absolutely unnecessary)
-not to mention the “big family” trope in both of them
-and they both have trio siblingsss
-both have similar tropes of “adults not understanding” and abuse in families
-not to mention the outsiders is a musical and so is encanto
-also like some of the Songs are sooooo coded for certain outsiders characters
-imma do a list of that tbh

Brothers au Christmas hcs cause I’m sick and I need smth to do (and I love Christmas and we just got snow) 😓🥳
Dally is actually pretty good at wrapping presents
He learned from Darry
Who learned from their parents.
Dally uses his money from work to buy gifts for his brothers
They’re actually very thoughtful but on Christmas he shrugs it off as just something he saw
Like if ponyboy mentioned some book
Dally will remember
Ponyboy gets stressed about gifts because he feels like his brothers are hard to shop for.
He needs it to be good
And it totally is
He’s even got Steve like wow you got this for me ponyboy?😍🙈
Steve in turn gets gifts that are really good without even trying 😭
He’s like “here” and they’re like “wow this is so nice of you 🥹” and he’s like “damn it is?”
Soda would make them take Christmas pictures cause that’s what they used to do with their parents
Soda would also be the first one to wake up (he would barely sleep he’s so excited)
He would be so impatient lol
Since pony doesn’t sleep like ever, he would hang out with soda until everyone else woke up.
Darry is grumpy in the morning cause his beauty sleep got interrupted so he makes soda go make his coffee 😭
Steve has chocolate for breakfast (same girl)
He shares with two bit
Reluctantly
Cause he’s a big back
Johnny is focused on the Christmas movie in the background.
Does buddy know he exists 😭🙏
He’s so grateful for his gifts
As if he’s surprised they went out of their way to get him something
He is also so proud of his own gift giving
Pony tries to play Christmas songs on the piano
When he misses a single note he slams the keys
Darry’s all like “there there, let ME try” and then COOKS
Ponyboy takes this time to go with soda to make dinner
…in a few words they end up needing the fire extinguisher
So they just go out to a small restaurant
And after they leave they make the last minute decision to buy some Christmassy flowers
They stop at their parents graves and leave the flowers and some words
No dry eye in sight
But that would be denied by a few.
They go back home and put in a movie
Hot chocolate 🤩
And beer 🤩
And they fall asleep and dream about sugar plums fr

how ab a little teaser for my au fic since im feeling like it yall.
Excerpt:
And Ponyboy just took another bite out of his apple, the taste seemingly more rotten. He looked down at it, and saw that it’s perfectly fine. He took another bite, although more aggressive. He couldn’t help but wonder that maybe his brothers didn’t want to be around him because of his mind and the rotten thoughts it brings.
Pony breathed and then checked the time. He and Johnny had to be at school within thirty minutes, but the ride there only took ten, so he decided not to worry about it too much before just finishing his breakfast in the form of an apple.
The boy got up from the chair as if he had the time and the power to mosey around all day as he walked to the kitchen to throw out the core. Pony always wondered what the deal with some fruits were. It’s always encouraged to eat fruits and vegetables, something they all learned as little kids in preschool. But only some of it. The strawberry, but not the leaves. The watermelon, but not the rind. The apple, but not the core.
Maybe Ponyboy is an overthinker, or maybe he just brought symbolism into everything, but it made him think. Why did people use earth’s resources so much, only to take what they want and leave what they can’t use? Why did people only want someone for what they can do to benefit them, but not everything when it comes down to it?
His wild thoughts were interrupted by his oldest brother handing him one of the paper bags he was putting together just minutes earlier.
“Take this Ponyboy. I decided last minute to make everyone some lunch today because someone forgot to do it last night,” Darry looked accusingly at Two-Bit who just shrugged and checked the clock before grabbing one of the bags and running, giving everyone a rushed goodbye.
Darry sighed and shook his head slightly, before giving Ponyboy his full attention. His eyes became stern as he spoke, opening Ponyboy’s backpack and putting his lunch in there before zipping it back up, “Ponyboy, you best try today, ya hear? No excuses. Now, I know you don’t want to go but you have no choice. School is required. Clear?”
As the younger met his stone cold eyes again, he tried to give a reassuring smile, but it didn’t reach his eyes. He had hoped that Darry would talk to him about something else. Maybe instead of the fact that he should try, Darry could have brought up how much he did try, and how much Darry should’ve seen it through his last straight A’s report card.
“Crystal.”
seven curtis brothers au but it's their family dynamics hcs
for @wannabe-goth-babe who commented and i just couldn't resist making another list of hcs
since two bit is all goofy, friendly as a kid growing up to present day, he's always been close with his siblings but ever since their parents passed, he had to slow some of his bad habits to help provide for his brothers as the only other newly legal adult in his family
so while he helps (or at least tries to) darry manage all the stuff he's responsible for, he also spends his time keeping morale up while darry is busy
but steve and soda would usually already be doing something cause they're nerds (probably a whole ahhh championship for arm wrestling)
and johnny would usually be with pony since dally is often out
but when he wasn't he would sometimes be in the middle of losing to johnny in some card game
so pony would just sit somewhere and read or be at the piano, playing around with some melodies and two-bit couldnt tell if pony was lonely or just in the zone
but two still would walk over and look at his sheet music and ask him what he was playing because he would usually recognize it because a lot of the sheet music was put together by their mother who would always play it to them
and while everyone else is minding their own business, two would sit down at the piano next to pony
and pony would teach him the things their mother taught him, since two had never wanted to learn, something he he regretted after losing their parents. passing up on chances to spend time together
and two didn't wanna make that mistake again
he learned how to identify the keys and play a few chords
and two played the lower harmonies with those chords while pony played the higher melody
(guys im picturing the scene from the princess switch if you know what i mean except platonic)
(therefore lets pretend its christmas time or smth for a moment and they're playing carol of the bells :D)
and their brothers would hear and turn around and look on in amazement because respectfully, its hard to get two-bit to sit down for extended periods of time. especially at the piano.
and after they finished the song, two would ruffle at pony's hair, pull him close into a side hug and thank him for being so patient with him
and pony feels all happy since no one really had time for something like that because no one else likes music as much except darry and he always has something to do
but two-bit was always good at making him feel seen
like two bit has common sense but he's still techncially a teen so sometimes he and pony would sneak out and do silly dumb things and go to the playground and joke around before sneaking back home as if nothing happened
mostly cause two knows that pony hasn't had as many opportunities to be a real teen since he was freshly a teenager when their parents passed so two just wants to make it feel real for him
and while two is technically still enrolled in school, he doesn't have to go. so when ponyboy or someone else is sick or smth he stays home to take care of them and cheer them up so darry doesn't have to miss work
and like brother, like brother, two and pony are both insanely stubborn when they're sick and stubborn in trying to help each other so it's chaos but they make it work in the end
unlike steve and pony when they were home alone together after catching the same cold
if they weren't so fatigued and sick they would've really went at each others throats
instead it's steve laying on the couch and pony across darry's arm chair trying to figure out how the other is responsible for the cold going through their family
(they've always had a rocky relationship)
if you were to ask steve why he "hates" ponyboy
he would say it's because the kid is a brat who has it better than the rest of them since he doesn't need to get a job and get in the stuff that mostly dally gets into
but if you were to ask him on a deeper level
he would say he's jealous. because for a while he and soda were closer than pages in a book and of course after johnny was born, they were all fussing over him, but with pony it was even more since he was the littlest of the littles
and pony always had to be included and as time went on, steve not only lost attention from his brothers, but also his parents
(and steve isn't the only one who feels like this)
(cough cough two bit cough cough dally)
dally practically got over it when he got older and two bit just ignored it for so long that he just doesn't think about it.
(it was real hard for two because he and darry had been so close but he knows that everyone else is more important)
if you were to ask ponyboy why he thinks steve hates him
he would say its because steves a dumbass who focuses all his willpower into making his life too difficult.
but if you were to ask him on a deeper level
he would say it's because he thinks hes annoying and holding everyone down
that he's too sentimental and stupid for wanting something beyond a greaser in tulsa
pony genuinely thinks that darry, steve, and dally only put up with him since johnny, soda, and two-bit do
they're working on it
or at least they're going to
youngest bro of seven on the east side of tulsa vibes
like they do NOT let him do anything out of the ordinary or potentially risky
enter ponyboy's rebellious era
(this will be dived deeper into in the fic)
darry is the same except for being more cautious and protective over his brothers
soda's the same mostly with extra love warming his heart and everyone else around him
johnny still is more of a listener than a talker but he's more confident and like soda and darry when it comes to being a curtis bro
dally still has that tough exterior from his time participating in rough gangs but it's the mildest it's been in tulsa
(the curtises have lived in other places, i'll write ab more of this in a post soon)
keith daniel curtis is still a doofus
pony is mostly the same with the trials and tribulations with darry but multiplied by 6
steve is pretty chill. no daddy issues. except for the fact he's dead. just ponyboy issues. everyone else is alright tho.
back when it was only darry, two, and dally, two was playing major middle child because hes always been an outgoing kid, but dally used to be really shy so darry would always cheer him up and two would just sit there like o_o
so basically darry would always make sure dally was alright
but growing up, it became the opposite
dally usually checks in on him and stuff to make sure stuff is going well, offers to take stuff off of him like taking up more shifts at bucks so darry doesnt have to do an overwhelming amount of work
even tho darry was older by a few years, he was always more optimistic and dally hated that their parents just had to die and all of the pieces had to be picked up by darry. he was too young to have all of that on him.
so dally takes matters into his own hands sometimes just so darry gets some rest.
just to return the favor of darry always taking care of them.

yes, they're personalities change because they were raised differently in this au. and yes since johnny isn't in the same situation with his parents, he is more outward with his personality. way better self-esteem since he has practically a fanclub with his family in this au. very sassy. i'd also like to say he's kinda good when it comes to dating. similarly to soda. but not as obvious since he's all respectful. but he does get shy and quiet at times too. it's like a mix. depending on the day, the circumstance, and the people he's with. for dallas, he is less of a meanie since he actually has people to care about and knows that people care about him so he is softer, but he still lives and engages in the wrong stuff in town and everything with other gangs which probably leads to his seemingly/slightly cold demeanor. it does start early though, in his early teenager years. their parents just do whatever they can to help him and guide him. also side hc, their uncle (i mentioned him in another post) would sometimes babysit them. and when it was only darry, two, and dally, the older two would hang out and so their uncle would often read to dally. their uncle grew up in nyc so i like to think that dal sometimes has that accent when saying certain words because of hearing them for the first time from his uncle.
as for the book events, i think they can still happen, just differently. thats an aspect i plan on going into further in my full fic of the au (in the works 😉) and seeing how it could unfold if things were different like this (i wont kill anyone off i promise)
financially, they start off rocky since they're struggling to keep up a house of seven, but as they go and advance to new jobs they might earn enough to not be considered lower class. maybe eventually it gets to the point where they're upper middle class, but it's def an uphill battle that won't happen instantly.
o.m.g. i can assure you the johnny-pony-dally dynamic is chaotic. imagine having two great, dependable, loyal friends...then throw all that down the drain cause you actually have to live with them /j | they're very silly but also very supportive, and i can see as time goes on, the seven of them just sleep wherever there's a bed to the point it doesn't matter whose room is whose as long as they get enough sleep to not be insanely cranky in the morning
surprisingly, ive never heard that before, but it makes sense, but throughout reading the outsiders (and i know a few of my friends have this problem too) i couldn't imagine or picture a face or a person to go along with dally's description (or any of them really) seeing the movie rlly saved me there so i only really see the actors when i think of them and portrayals which makes sense in my head since they all have similar hair colors. but they prolly do have some mexican/native or whatever genes down the line or maybe in their parents so it makes sense for their looks to not stray insanely far.

something i cant not think about when listening to justice for tulsa
i know i know the socs picked most of the fights but still i cant help but feel for them because they're doing what they've been raised to do
and in justice for tulsa its mainly paul and cherry. and cherry is trying to get paul to feel for the greasers because everything wouldn't have happened if it weren't for them jumping pony and johnny
but i think paul was just grieving too because if he's randy's replacement then it means they were like good friends yk and he's trying to blame anyone but himself because he wouldn't be able to take it if it was his fault that his best friend died
and everytime i listen to the last part i hear paul's voice and i think about how pained it is and how they're fighting for their own against the people "to blame"
they feel that they NEEED revenge or something because they don't want to be the ones to lose most certainly after bob died too.
it's the whiplash from something like this too because they've always messed around before but never to that point and they really don't know how to go about it except for fighting
all because bobs parents couldnt say no
also if it were anyone else to be brought up in the socs circumstances they would end up the same way
(i need someone to write something soc-centric where we see their perspective but we also see character development pls and ty)
curtis brothers au hcs but it's when pony was born
darry was six years old and already had five little brothers so he knew he was ready for a sixth
at first he didn't like it, but he grew to love his brother and being an older brother when his first baby brother, keith, was born.
so you can imagine the excitement for dally
and then the extreme excitement for twins
and then another one
darry practically had a mini army
but the army wasn't very useful when the three youngest were in a stroller, dally was all shy, and keith was always bored so he always made it darrys problem
just like when he was sitting in the waiting room with his siblings and his uncle as they waited for their dad to come get them
keith was poking him and trying to get him to play
dally was in the seat on the other side of keith, also waiting quietly which was really good for a kid his age.
and their uncle was trying to entertain steve, soda, and johnny in the stroller so they wouldn't start crying again
which really was starting to annoy little darry
he loved them but the kid was stressing cause theres gonna be another onee
once their dad came out, darry practically jumped out of his seat and grabbed the hands of his two younger brothers to walk to their mama
and uncle jeff pushed the stroller
darry didn't have a hold on dally for too long before the latter ran to their dad for "uppies"
grabby arms and all
keith however was running his toy car up and down darry's arm
darry let it slide
what darry didn't let slide was the extra babbling from sodapop
the kid was overdoing it
so yk what darry did?
he side eyed him
yeah thats right
but eventually they made it to their mama's room
they went closer
darry peaked over and saw his mama smiling
and in her arms was the smallest baby he had ever seen
he hadn't remembered even lil johnny being that small
dally was still being held by their dad before peaking over and then hiding back in his dad's chest
eventually little dally looked back and smiled
"baby!"
keith was overjoyed as he held out the car to the baby, who was still asleep in their mama's arms, seemingly rejected when the boy hadn't woke up and suddenly started playing with him
their mama had to explain
"haven't seen last of me, baby!"
their mama had smiled at the boys, the ones that weren't now asleep in the stroller
their parents steadied them as they held their littlest brother for the first time
their parents watched as they saw the joy in their eyes at the small baby
once the baby went back to their mama and their dad, they had questions to ask
darry looked up to his beaming mama. she looked tired but also as happy as she was everytime she got to hold one of her precious children for the first time.
"what's his name, mama?"
little darry had asked
"his name is ponyboy"

pony is def the most musical in the family.
like their parents tried to get them all into piano and stuff and other than darry no one else really cared except for pony
i imagine hes a choir kid
and just loves music with all his heart
like out of nowhere he would start singing something thats stuck in his head
all loud and obnoxious
they could all be in the living room chilling and stuff, doing nothing much in particular and pony would just be all like
"R-E-S-P-E-C-T! FIND OUT WHAT IT MEANS TO ME"
and he would rock it too
steady vibrato and them runs and riffs
like he's insanely talented
and everyone would just sigh
cause they've given up on getting him to stop
or when he's practicing at the piano and something happens or someone does something dumb
he just plays the circus theme song thing
and he'd get smacked upside the head
or if he's sad he can usually relate it to a song lyric and he'd be caught singing it since it would end up getting stuck in his head and everyone would just be like
"you good homie??"
and when he's feeling things
he WILL write a gutwrenching, heartstring-tugging poem that he may or may not adapt into a song
he would also randomly belt something from a musical
and then darry would randomly start singing (sometimes in harmony) to throw pony off and darry would be all like
"i aint tryna be mean but before you there was meeee"
darry would also try to help him out with piano and they'd argue because darry thinks it's this note and pony disagrees or smth
darry fr be like
"pony it says piano so here's a tip: you have to play it softly"
and pony would be like
"I AM PLAYING IT SOFTLY"
(he says as he slams down on the keys)
and the others are just watching, eating popcorn because it's always entertaining to watch darry try to get pony to listen or vice versa cause they're both stubborn af
some silly little headcanons i have specifically for my au of the outsiders that i felt the need to write down all in one place.
after their parents died, darry made a deal with the state that he could keep his brothers as long as they're able to support themselves
so darry got three jobs, roofer, contractor, and uh...yk what.
two-bit who was almost 18 started working at a grocery store cause i said so
dally managed to get a job as a bartender at bucks
and ofc soda and steve work at the dx
johnny and pony don't have jobs yet cause the others don't want them to because they're "too young"
(when really they're 14 and 15 and are in fact old enough)
when everyone else is at work, johnny and pony stay home and watch movies. like binge watch.
they once thought they could handle horror movies.
they couldnt.
they were latching on to darry when he got home.
dinner at their house is chaotic.
they're yapping over each other and darry's trying to get them to settle down so that people don't report a noise complaint on them.
how to bribe the curtises?
not money.
not gold.
these big backs only listen when there's dessert involved.
even after a 12 course meal, if they're hungry in the middle of the night and sneak out to the kitchen, there will most likely already be someone there
steve and soda used to share a room.
keyword: used to
they would stay up all night giggling and shi
same thing with pony and johnny.
so steve and pony swapped rooms.
darry regrets it cause now soda and pony cant stop giggling, but he can't stop it so he just gave up
so therefore dally and two bit share a room.
dally isn't thrilled
two bit yaps
dally needs sleep or he'll be grumpy in the morning
but two-bit contradicts him saying that dally is gonna be grumpy either way.
and then dally comes at him about still living in the house as an adult and then teases him for his lack of ability to pull
dally would try to find a way to get darry to let him sleep in his room if darry weren't such a heavy snorer
(dally snores too)
(but he refuses to accept it)
darrys the type to need his morning coffee before speaking to anyone
dal just doesnt want to speak to anyone

they'll tell him to go to sleep and pony will be like "just one more chapter"
but he keeps reading and suddenly the birds are chirping
johnny tried to protest this once back when they shared a room
to say he'll stay awake too unless pony goes to sleep
he fails and ends up falling asleep.
pony gives him a pat on the head and continues to stay awake until the sun shined through the window.
pony then proceeds to sleep the day away

hi outsiders tumblr fandom!! i'm a major fan of the musical and got to see it over the summer, but i've had the honor of playing Sodapop in the play version this last fall! i just figured i'd share a collection of characterization/characterwork/headcanons (except to me it's kind of canon?) thoughts!
feel free to ask any questions! some prefaces about our production (mostly director's choices)!
we casted genderblind, our pony and darry were played by girls!
soda did get sandy pregnant.....it wasn't cheating
the year is 1964! (this one isn't insanely relevant)
the curtis house was two stories (this will make sense later...) so first are some random character thoughts (mostly canon)
100% a momma's boy (ex-momma's boy...)
sticking to canon that he worked at a stable when he was 12, rip Mickey Mouse
quite the caregiver, in the sense he is incredibly emotionally intelligent (especially when it comes to his family)
very lighthearted person, walks through life that way
adrenaline junkie, consistently trying to enjoy life and have fun
emotionally vulnerable, but puts others first out of fear if he opens up too much he might not be able to stop
violently passionate and loving, viscerally supportive. ultimate loverboy
he isn't stupid! he just struggles to learn in the format school teaches
much more street and people smart
prideful but definitely fairly polite
confident in himself! though he holds insecurity in being dumb, since he's only regarded for being a looker...many many instances where he's been flirted with at work but is so oblivious because the comments are so common

sandy and soda have been together for 2 years! momma curtis loved her
so so SO in love with her tho, basically worships the ground she walks on. he doesn't get over her for a whileeeee.... but he still doesn't blame her
dates to baseball games were so common.
definitely danced together- in the kitchen or out in the rain, at a party? dancing always.
strong relationship with darry (played by one of my bestest friends ever), he understands her and helps where he can, loves her and respects her a lot- but is able to joke around with her without it being too serious
two-bit (also played by one of my bestest friends) and him are pretty close, her actor and i have a bit that two-bit and soda hook up and maybe get together a few years after sandy.....no comment
steve and soda are pretty close! not as locked in as in canon but...(context: we basically wrote steve into the script) they are locked into the grind at the DX and definitely go out to rodeos and races together
johnny and soda are lowkey not the closest but also in a "we are best friends" kinda way, soda's insanely protective of her (genderbent!) after the jumping
dallas and soda were a lot closer when they were younger, soda likely introduced dallas to the group, but they kinda grew apart as they got older and especially after the curtis parents died... soda doesn't really approve of too many of dallas' choices, but he's still family
cherry... she definitely has thrown him a few looks when stopping by the DX... me and her actor like to imagine maybe they've flirted and had minor crushes on each other at one point in time i made a playlist, containing more time period based music and music i just think soda would listen to! (i'm contemplating still updating it whenever i find music i think he'd enjoy):
some of the leads in the cast also made "get to know me" sheets as jokes so here is mine!
in the script, it mentions the returned letter, so i got to make that prop! i actually ended up handwriting the letter, so here is it on a doc plus pictures of the letter! she also gave me one, so we could trade! it was sandy's unsent letter to soda back in Tulsa after she moved. sandy's last name was picked as a reference to sarahgrace from the musical cast :)

hi outsiders tumblr fandom!! i'm a major fan of the musical and got to see it over the summer, but i've had the honor of playing Sodapop in the play version this last fall! i just figured i'd share a collection of characterization/characterwork/headcanons (except to me it's kind of canon?) thoughts!
feel free to ask any questions! some prefaces about our production (mostly director's choices)!
we casted genderblind, our pony and darry were played by girls!
soda did get sandy pregnant.....it wasn't cheating
the year is 1964! (this one isn't insanely relevant)
the curtis house was two stories (this will make sense later...) so first are some random character thoughts (mostly canon)
100% a momma's boy (ex-momma's boy...)
sticking to canon that he worked at a stable when he was 12, rip Mickey Mouse
quite the caregiver, in the sense he is incredibly emotionally intelligent (especially when it comes to his family)
very lighthearted person, walks through life that way
adrenaline junkie, consistently trying to enjoy life and have fun
emotionally vulnerable, but puts others first out of fear if he opens up too much he might not be able to stop
violently passionate and loving, viscerally supportive. ultimate loverboy
he isn't stupid! he just struggles to learn in the format school teaches
much more street and people smart
prideful but definitely fairly polite
confident in himself! though he holds insecurity in being dumb, since he's only regarded for being a looker...many many instances where he's been flirted with at work but is so oblivious because the comments are so common
