The four great apes (minus humans)
More ape facts!
-There are five species of great apes: Orangutans, Gorillas, Bonobos, Chimps, and humans.
- All apes but orangutans and humans live in tight nit groups. Gorillas and chimpanzees typically live in patriarchal troops led by one dominant male. With bonobos, their groups are typically led by a matriarchal system; multiple female bonobos hold the authority rather than one dominant male. Orangutans on the other hand completely, live semi-solitary lifestyles
- Although in the movie franchise planet of the apes bonobos are often depicted as more violent than chimps in the cases we’ve seen them, it’s usually the other way around with bonobos being the chiller of the two ape species

My image collections are full of primate facial expressions, and this expression of what I perceive as calm and curiosity is among my favorites.
What do you see in this expression?
Feel free to visit featured collections at Idee Explores and field videos on my new "Idee Montijo" YouTube channel! 🐒
I met with some very cool people today to discuss their new research project about parasite-animal-human relationships, which hopes to touch on social and biological anthropology, primatology, veterinary medicine, human medicine and others. It's genuinely one of the most amazing projects I've heard about recently and I'm thrilled to (hopefully) be a part of it.
For my fellow scientists, please suggest your favorite books, research papers, anything really on the subject of parasites from any point of view!! I'd really appreciate it.

Day thirteen of posting my photography! 📷
(I may have forgotten this afternoon)
So I went to Peak Wildlife Park the other day. I wasn’t expecting the polar bears but they were a nice surprise when we got there!
I made a little deer friend which let me stroke its head and in return it gave me a muddy hand 🥰
The polar bears! There was a mother and her two cubs, although those two year old boys were the same size as her, and are expected to double in size by the time they’re fully grown.
They were very playful and were jumping all over each other in the water and throwing their floaty toys around. Mum was out in the back hut, snuggling down in the warm bedding which I thought was very sensible on that very cold day.
The arctic foxes were super cute!!
Very fluffy and active, they were wandering all over their enclosure shouting at each other. Very pretty animals!
Just a cute couple of birds that were eagerly watching the meerkats being fed mealworms.
The meerkats!
One of the keepers was doing a keeper for the day experience with a couple of guests and were feeding them mealworms. One of the meerkats decided that the lady’s fluffy and comfy hood was the perfect lookout spot!
The lemurs! This guy’s seen some stuff… 💀
It was a walk through enclosure, so the lemurs weren’t afraid to wander around people which was nice!
Oh and as always the penguins were super photogenic!
Hope you’ve enjoyed my piccies!
