Boats in motion study to capture the feeling of motion in a still image. A greyscale image of sailing boats racing each other, drawn in dip-pen ink, brush-applied ink, and copic pens. The action of the many sails and rigging of boats next to one another makes it difficult to discern where one boat starts and another ends.
Sketches of buildings with elements that feel related to boats and sailing. Drawn with copic pens, brown colour pencil, and black dip-pen ink.

Clockwise from left: Plymouth Sainsburys by Architen Landrell, Aalborg Utzon Centre by Jørn and Kim Utzon, Silver Mountain Hay Barn by PiP Architects, and Oberholz Mountain Hut by Peter Pitcher and Pavil Micolajcak
Two drawings of boats. One is a full-mast ship, drawn as a void by drawing around the form with a blue copic pen. The other is a study of masts and rigging, featuring a small silhouetted figure pulling at fopes connected to a sail while standing on a stay (a beam attached perpendicular to a mast)

I was feeling v low in self confidence the other week due to doing really poorly on a piece of coursework, and while waiting for the natural emotional reaction to pass I figured I should do something that would directly make me feel good about my capabilities. Decided to do some boat + precedent sketches, which really cheered me up, and then I got great feedback about them too!
