akaashi couldn’t be nonchalant as people made him out to be.
NOTE. Inspired by @/nethsukii’s post from TikTok!
Everyone always assumed Akaashi was the most level-headed person in the room, nonchalant in some cases, the calm voice amongst the chaos, the unshakeable setter with cool eyes and a brain that always operated two steps ahead.
That reputation didn’t change when he got a girlfriend—it intensified. People whispered about how lucky you were to have someone so composed, thoughtful, emotionally intelligent, and stable. A boyfriend who wouldn’t raise his voice, who’d remember anniversaries without being reminded, who’d bring you tea when you had cramps, and listen to you vent without interrupting.
And okay—yes. Two of those things were completely true.
But the “nonchalant” part? That one was a bit misleading.
Because if you asked Bokuto, or Konoha, or literally any of Akaashi’s closer friends, they’d tell you: he’s anything but nonchalant when it comes to you. Sure, he looks calm, but beneath that is a man whose brain short-circuits when you so much as bat your eyelashes at him thrice rather than twice. He’s an intense romantic disguised as a stoic intellectual. And the intensity isn’t dramatic or grand—it’s absurdly, endearingly specific.
“Did you know you sneeze in three stages?”
You blinked, pausing mid-bite of your grilled cheese sandwich. “What?”
Akaashi, seated across from you at his kitchen counter, wore his usual composed expression. His glasses slid a bit down his nose, but he didn’t push them up. He was too focused on you. “Three stages,” he repeated. “You do this little build-up thing first—your eyebrows scrunch, your nose wiggles like a bunny, and then you hold your breath for a second. That’s stage one.”
You stared at him with an expression of genuine confusion. “You studied my sneeze?”
“I observe,” he corrected smoothly, reaching for his cup of tea like this was just another normal afternoon conversation and not borderline concerning.
“Stage two is the sneeze itself. It’s never dainty. It’s loud. Forceful. Passionate.”
“That’s a weird adjective.”
“Am I wrong?” he asked, not missing a beat.
“Yes?” You looked down at your sandwich. “I… don’t know how to properly respond to that.”
Akaashi gave the faintest smile, his eyes flickering with mischief. “Stage three is the little sigh you do afterward. Like you just survived a great war. Then you sniff once and pretend it didn’t just shake the room.”
“You’re insane.”
“Maybe,” he admitted with a shrug, “but it’s endearing. You sneeze like a bazooka. It’s adorable.”
“No one’s ever called a bazooka adorable.”
“I’m a trailblazer,” he said matter-of-factly.
-
There were his journal entries—yes, journal entries—about you. You found one once by accident, tucked between a book of poetry and a volleyball strategy book. He didn’t write about major milestones like one might expect. No, you found out your boyfriend documented the way your nose crinkled when you lied, or how your left hand twitches a little when you were anxious.
There was an entire paragraph dedicated to the way you wrapped your scarf, how it was “disarmingly efficient, yet always crooked to the left, like her heart’s trying to lean on someone without asking.”
Who says that?
Akaashi Keiji, apparently.
He once paused mid-sentence in a phone call with Bokuto because you, half-asleep and grumpy, had mumbled something unintelligible from the other room (you had come over for a project and fell asleep after lunch). “She sounds like a disgruntled possum when she’s waking up,” he said dreamily. “It’s charming.”
...
“Akaashi. You okay?”
“More than okay.”
-
Akaashi even adjusted his wardrobe—not that he admitted it. You mentioned once, half-joking, that he looked really good in dark green, and suddenly half of his winter clothes were moss, olive, or emerald. You caught on when he started showing up with sleeves rolled halfway up because you once muttered something about liking the veins in his arms.
“Yum,” you murmur, squeezing his triceps before bursting into a fit of laughter after realizing how embarrassing you’re acting.
But you learned long ago that there was never such a thing as too embarrassing when Akaashi acted the same, if not to a greater degree. He wasn’t nonchalant. Not even close. He was... silly.
A helpless romantic who never made grand proclamations or public gestures but instead memorized the oddest, most mundane things about you like it was part of some sacred text.
And yet, he wasn’t clingy nor weird to the point of you being uncomfortable. He knows your boundaries well. He wasn’t overbearing or overly expressive. He just noticed. Quietly, constantly, lovingly. He didn’t tell you he loved you every day in words, but he knew the way you curled your pinky when you drank from your mug.
He knew you got cold at 3 a.m. even in the summer and always made sure a blanket was within reach. He noticed when you rewatched the same ten-minute section of your favorite show because you liked the background music.
He remembered the exact number of sugars you took in your coffee and the fact that your favorite mug was slightly chipped, but you used it anyway because it was a gift from your cousin. He once stopped mid-sentence while talking to Bokuto on the phone just to say, “She’s humming the Sailor Moon theme in the shower again,” with a fondness so full it made Bokuto gag.
Man, he was whole-body deep into loving you.
-
How Akaashi often spends a lot of time thinking about things that weren’t even that serious.
Like how, that one time, you laughed at someone else’s joke for a few seconds longer than how he’d normally get from you. He doesn’t even get jealous when someone’s flirting with you because he knows—you know—and you’re both trusting of one another.
But to hear you laugh for 1.7 seconds longer?
You might as well give up now, because this man is persistent.
“Are you seriously keeping time now?” you asked, laughing at his behavior.
“Yes, my dad raised me to be competitive.”
“Don’t bring him into this, Keiji,” you laughed.
He looked at you as if you hung the moon and individually painted the stars in the beautiful night sky itself. “You’re very pretty,” he says. “I think I might experience a heart attack.”
You hugged him so hard you nearly knocked his glasses off.
-
When you painted your nails—usually some soft pastel or neutral tone—he would watch intently, chin in his hand like an art critic evaluating a masterpiece. At first, you thought he was just being polite (to try and appear interested, since guys don’t usually find interest in these sorts of things), but when you noticed the way he always commented on the color and style like it was a whole personality trait, you realized it wasn’t an act.
“Oh, that shade of sage green,” he murmured once. “It makes your fingers look like they’ve been kissed by a forest spirit.”
“What does that even mean?” You laughed.
He blinked, entirely serious. “It’s a compliment.”
“Keiji, I told you. If you’re going through something, you tell me—not just like—act this way.” As a joke, of course.
He laughed too.
Eventually, Akaashi started doing them for you. It began as a fleeting thought—you had been painting your left hand with your non-dominant one, struggling to keep it clean, when he silently plucked the brush from you and started painting with delicate strokes.
“You’re going to mess it up,” you warned.
“I have steady hands,” he said with all the gravitas of a surgeon. “We did this in Home Economics, remember?”
“...Yeah.”
From then on, it became a quiet ritual. You’d sit in his lap or next to him on the bed while he carefully painted your nails (he prefers the first one but isn’t shameless enough to tell you most of the time), brows furrowed in concentration, tongue sometimes poking out as he focused too hard. And every time he picked a color, it came with an elaborate reason.
“This one reminds me of the sky right after it rains in early spring. Soft, muted, but a little hopeful.”
You’d pretend to roll your eyes, but your heart would always flutter. Because you won the boyfriend lottery with him.
Akaashi was just built like that. When you two cooked together, he’d narrate what you were doing like it was a documentary on divine beings. “And now, the goddess stirs the pot, bestowing warmth and nourishment unto mankind.”
“Stop it,” you giggled, flicking water at him. “Don’t narrate it like that. You’re making it sound like a case study.”
“But it’s fun,” he says with a smile.
“You’re so weird.”
“I’m so in love with you.”
And he truly is.
And you believe him.
Akaashi wasn’t nonchalant. He was soft-spoken, yes. Composed, yes. But behind that calm exterior was a boy with a mind full of your quirks and a heart that was overflowing with enough love to swallow you whole. And somehow, that made you feel even more lucky than you already were.

I cannot explain how much I love this man... He is so perfect and he doesn't even know :'( where are the Akaashi apprechiators????
Akaashi would silently squeeze your hand as you walk around through the city, a reminder that he loves you without saying anything. You squeeze his hand back and he would be flustered on the inside, not noticable to others, but you are the only person that would notice it. Your hands are tingled together in his pocket of the jacket you wear.
COMPARING HAND SIZES — ft. osamu miya, atsumu miya, akaashi keiji, iwaizumi hajime
warnings — reader/you is implied to be shorter because of hand size difference, also let names (baby & love)
⨳OSAMU was confused as to why you wanted to compare hand sizes. you’ve held hands a million times so you both knew your hands were smaller. “do you just wanna hold my hand?” he asked with a skeptical look across his face. “maybe, maybe not.” you shrugged with a cheeky smile. letting out a sigh the man held up one of his hands and you pressed yours against it immediately. “would’ve never have guess your hands were bigger,” you joke before he interlocks your fingers. “yeah i bet,” osamu says sarcastically, rolling his eyes before leaning in and planting a quick kiss to your lips.
⨳ATSUMU would’ve suggested it not you. he thinks he’s so slick about it too. “baby let me see how different our hand sizes are,” he sort of asks before grabbing your hand and putting it right on his. “tsumu are you being serious right now?” you scoff when you feel him pull your hand to his. “you’ve got small hands,” he notes out loud as if you weren’t already aware. “good observation tsumu.” you roll your eyes pulling your hand away. “you’re no fun,” he pouts from beside you. without saying anything you grab his closest hand and interlock your fingers. “look we can hold hands,” you say holding up your hands. atsumu smiles at your hands and leans in to kiss your cheek.
⨳AKAASHI knew you were up to something when you asked for his hand. “why?” he asked cautiously as he held out his hand to you. “comparing hand size,” you responded while putting your palms on his. “wait, lowkey we have the same hand size.” you giggle at the sight. akaashi furrowed his eyebrows and blinked at your hands. two different sizes—completely different. “you think you’re funny.” he told you as he got a firm grip on your hand and puked you close to him. “completely different hand sizes love,” akaashi added before kissing the top of your forehead. “nice try though”
⨳IWAIZUMI always feeds into your antics and lets you do whatever. he can tolerate your nonsense because it’s second nature to him. “why are we comparing hand sizes like we’re in junior high?” he asked while holding his hand up to you. “i need an excuse to hold your hand.” you admit while placing your pal on his proudly. the brunette’s eyebrows are drawn together in confusion for a moment. “you don’t need an excuse,” he tells you and you smile. “i know i know, let me have fun for once,” you dismiss before interlocking your fingers with his. “fine,” he shakes his head lightly before kissing the top of your head.

hi i LOVE ur writing sm!! i look forward to pretty much every single one of ur posts, ur super talented :)
do you think you could do an akaashi x insomniac!reader? akaashi is known for overthinking and stuff so tbh i think his anxiety might make him stay awake sometimes, but prob not full blown insomnia. i js think a oneshot of him helping reader or maybe just the two of them hanging out super late one night because neither of them can get any sleep (maybe college!au where he’s stressing about his classes? or could be just volleyball related. whatever works for you!).
maybe it could be pre-relationship too. like they might be friends then reader sees him active on some social media and decides to text him to hang out and they get super close after this night. again, whatever works for u!!
omgg my heart thank you 😩❤️ Your words mean so much to me 🥹
I think I hit all the boxes, I hope you enjoy <333

The clock blinked 2:47AM in soft digital blue, casting a dim glow that painted the walls of your dorm room in slow, pulsing light. You stared at it from where you lay on your back, eyes wide open, blanket pulled up to your chin like it would somehow coax sleep into settling over your body. It didn’t.
It never did.
Insomnia was a loyal companion. Even on nights when your limbs were heavy and your mind felt worn thin, your thoughts refused to settle. They danced along the edge of reason, hyper-fixating on things that didn’t matter: words you said three days ago, the shape of clouds you saw that afternoon, the persistent question of whether you locked the door. A quiet ache had formed behind your eyes from sheer exhaustion, but sleep wouldn’t come.
You turned over, grabbed your phone off the nightstand. No new messages. Just a faint glow from the charging screen illuminating your tired face.
Then, a notification.
akaashi_keiji posted to his story
You tapped it open without thinking. A dim photo of a laptop lit up against a pile of books and a cup of coffee that had long since gone cold. The caption read: 2AM is a perfectly reasonable hour to still be working, right?
You stared at it. Your fingers hovered.
Then you sent a message.
you: you up up?
The reply was almost instant.
akaashi: Unfortunately.
you: Wanna hang? Can’t sleep and you look like you need a break.
A beat passed. The dots wavered, stopped. Then—
akaashi: Give me 5.

Akaashi showed up at your door at exactly 3:03AM. Hoodie pulled over his head, dark sweats clinging to the chill of the night, his hair mussed like he’d run his hands through it too many times. His eyes were tired but alert, flickering with that same sharpness he always carried—like he was cataloging everything, even now.
You stepped aside without saying a word. He entered just as quietly, slipping off his shoes and placing his bag beside your desk with a soft thud. He dropped to the floor beside your bed with a sigh that seemed to deflate the weight on his shoulders.
“Rough night?” you asked gently, perching on the edge of your mattress.
“I have a presentation next week, three deadlines, and Bokuto keeps texting me motivational memes like it’s going to fix my GPA.”
You laughed under your breath. “It won’t.”
“Exactly.”
The quiet that followed wasn’t awkward. The hum of your mini fridge and the occasional creak of pipes running through the dorm added to the low ambience of sleeplessness. You looked down at him, his knees pulled up slightly, arms draped over them, like he didn’t know how to get comfortable in his own skin.
“Wanna watch something?”
He shook his head. “Too much noise.”
“Read?”
“Already tried. Can’t focus.”
“Lie on the floor and stare at the ceiling until we disassociate?”
He glanced up at you with deadpan humor. “Honestly, that sounds ideal.”
You grabbed a second pillow and tossed it to the floor beside him. He didn’t hesitate. His body uncurled, long and lean as he stretched out beside your bed, head cradled in the fluff of borrowed comfort.
You joined him moments later, lying back so the ceiling filled your view. Pale shadows danced above you, shapes warped by passing cars and the swaying leaves outside the window. The ceiling fan ticked rhythmically above.
“You get this often?” he asked softly, voice barely above a whisper.
“Yeah,” you replied, your voice matching his. “Like... more nights than not. It just doesn’t stop. My brain, I mean."
Akaashi sighed, breath feathering the space between you. “Mine too. It’s like it waits until I have to sleep to start racing.”
You turned your head, studying the outline of his profile in the glow from your desk lamp. The slope of his nose, the delicate curve of his lashes, the soft press of his lips.
“So why’d you come?”
He was quiet for a moment. “Because you asked. And I figured... maybe it’d be better to not be alone with it.”
You nodded, the pillow rustling beneath your cheek. “Yeah.”
Minutes passed in silence. He turned to face you, and you mirrored the movement. The two of you laying side by side, not quite touching, breaths moving in rhythm.
“We could do this again,” you whispered. “If you ever can’t sleep. You could just... come over.”
His gaze didn’t waver. “I think I’d like that.”
At 3:57AM, you both fell asleep.
Shoulders brushing. Minds quiet. The night finally letting you rest.

akaashi keiji has been an enigma to you despite the plethora of years you’d known him. not in the way that you didn’t know what he liked — you know he prefers his coffees with creamer and three sugars, that if he was wearing his glasses it’s because his contacts probably dried out, and you know that if he wears his old fukurodani sweater that he’s working on editing another piece for udai, but you never knew how he truly felt about you.

PLSSSS I AM SO IN LOVE
akaashi doesn’t want a tutor. he needs one, but that doesn’t mean he wanted one. he’s not even sure how it was recommended to him in the first place, weren’t his grades good enough?
his pencil bends under the force of his thumb at the thought, holding back the urge to roll his eyes at whoever the teacher thought would be suitable to explain english literature to him.
english literature. to him of all people. his pencil bends a bit harsher this time, teetering on the edge of snapping in half.
gosh - he hated english literature. not because he failed at it, but because he loved reading enough to understand that this class would do nothing but destroy his creativity and make writing feel like a chore.
so between all that, and the fact that he’s been needing to clock more volleyball hours for the upcoming nationals, he guesses he can understand why a tutor was brought up to him.
“sorry, i’m late!” you walk up to his seat, apologizing, and the second he sees you - the pencil in his thumb breaks.
you?
you smile, shy, maybe polite too, “ah shit, terrible first impression huh?”
on the contrary. you’ve been making impressions left and right to akaashi, and none of them he’d ever use the word terrible to describe.
so, maybe he had a little crush. not that he’d ever tell you about it, but what are the chances that the one person he found a bit more lovely than the rest would be the person to tutor him.
“it’s fine,” he tells you, curtious, “i really didn’t wait long.” he smiles, lying.
you nod, appreciative of the fact that he was being so nice about it, you introduce yourself, he tells you his name, and you briefly mentioned how pretty it was before he tells you if you’ve ever heard yours.
you smile at him, “flattery will get you nowhere.”
“it wasn’t my intention,” he tells you, but you don’t miss the tiny glint in his eyes as he does.
you grin, laughing the small banter away, and you sit next to him, eyeing the broken piece of pencil in his hand but you decide to not mention it anyways.
you look to him, “well, we better get started or we won’t get anything done today.”
akaashi has a better look at you now, especially considering how you sat so close to him that he could just reach out and push your hair away, not that he would, but he could, and that made it unexpectedly difficult to concentrate at anything other than you.
akaashi thinks, not for the first time, how pretty your eyes are, and that thought is shortly followed by a smile, everything about you was lovely.
“where do we start?” you ask him, eyeing his notebooks, and you grin, “the sooner we begin the faster we could go home.”
he frowns for a second - hoping that you don’t notice, and he glances at the book he kept by his side, “i’m having a lot of trouble actually.”
it’s not like he was lying, he hated english literature, but it’d be wrong of him to admit that he only said that because he needed help in freaking english.
“well, that’s okay too,” you smile that same politeness, akaashi finds it charming, “i don’t mind staying for how long.”
he doesn’t mind too, not when you stared at him so intently with those eyes of yours, and he thinks about how inconvenient it was for him to get stuck with you as a tutor since he’s sure he won’t ever get to focus on his textbooks as much as he’d like to focus on you.
really, how inconvenient. he thinks, a relentless smile on his face.
I just- 🥺🥺🥺
this is day2 of me being hardworking and tired hi gib me some attention
Fine, since you have been working hard😌
“Keiji?”
“Hm?” Akaashi tried to hide the hint of amusement in his tone as he continued typing on his laptop, but now with you permanently glued to his chest.
“I’m so tired...”
“Yeah?” he smiled, patting the back of your head when you rubbed your face against his jumper. It was so warm and smells like the sun and softener, you sunk deeper into the comforting presence of your lover as you sighed.
“I worked so hard today,” you whined, peeking up to watch his expression.
“Did you?” he chuckled. His fingers weaved into your hair and gently kneaded against your scalp, he bite his lips to stop the grin that was crawling on his face as he watched you quite literally melting into a puddle under his touch.
Cute.
You nodded before leaning your jaw on his collar, looking up at him with the best puppy dog eyes you could manage. “Can I ask for a reward?”
He laughed and you felt your heart swelling at the way his eyes pursed into two thin lines. He took his glasses off and you looked right into his eyes to see your own reflection swimming amidst the sea of stars twinkling.
He’s so pretty.
You closed your eyes when you felt the soft contact on your forehead, the warmth of his lips lingering before he pulled back.
“Good job.”
this is so beautiful and i’m crying
important: as we resume hq posts, please do not forget the feelings and activism that we have built up over the past weeks/months/decades. these fights are far from over. and as always, my inbox is open to you.

It’s raining, and I miss you.
June.
Akaashi woke up not minutes ago. The room is barely lit in a dark, dusky glow, and through his bedroom windows, he vaguely registers the distant rumbles rolling in. Rain tumbles down, pelting at the glass panes before buffering into gentle waterfalls. Their thin trails soften the pale morning light for his drowsy mind, leaving the world outside behind.
Akaashi rolls to his side, looking out at the grey sky, hazy, and the thought breathes into him again.
It’s raining, and I miss you.

Hi! I was wondering if I could request akaashi, iwa, and/or atsumu kissing their best friend, please and thank you💕 I really liked the oikawa, kuroo and bokuto one!
— synopsis: haikyuu boys x y/n; kissing their best-friend
— characters included: akaashi, iwaizumi, & atsumu
— genre: soft boi hours! fluff! lil angst!
— author’s note: while the previous one was based off the tiktok, this one will be just general made-up plots to keep things different! (hope that’s okay!)
akaashi
when you found out akaashi liked someone, you experienced your first heartbreak.
you knew falling in love with your best-friend was all on you, but you couldn’t help but just hope that maybe one day he would return your feelings.
but yet here you were, hopes and heart shattered.
you almost wanted to breakdown the moment he told you, but you held it out as much as possible, your tears falling only once you were away from him.
“y/n, I wanna tell you something...” he started slowly as he held the volleyball in his hand tightly.
chuckling softly, you removed his hands from the ball, taking it from him, “you’re going to bust this if you hold it any tighter.”
blinking, he stared at his empty hands before laughing lightly. taking a deep breath, he turned to look at you, a soft smile on his face.
“I like someone.”
this time it was you whose grip tightened on the volleyball.
unsure if you heard him right, you stammered, “y-you what?”
scratching the back of his head, he repeated shyly, “I said I like someone.”
“oh.” you responded, voice lower than a whisper.
you quickly realized just how dejected you sounded, and if anything, that was the exact opposite of how you should’ve sounded.
throwing on a bright smile on your face, you giggled, “ooh keiji has a crush~” you teased lightly.
flushing, he laughed, “yea, I guess you could call it that.”
“who is it?” you asked almost immediately, the curiosity getting the better of you.
at that, akaashi stiffened. chuckling nervously, he averted his gaze, “um, it’s someone you know.”
since that day, akaashi had never told you who his special someone was. you didn’t know why he was hiding it from you, after all it was better to peel the bandaid off completely rather than bit by bit like he was doing to you these last few weeks.
it started with him telling you how amazing she was. how she was the funniest person he knew, how strong-minded she was and how beautiful she always was to him.
then it went on to how she made him feel. how she always made his day, how he felt butterflies whenever she would touch him and how he just wants to hold her hand in his.
and just like that, week by week, akaashi would talk about nothing but her.
to make things worse, it appeared that most of the volleyball team knew. every day at volleyball practice you would hear their teasing remarks, bokuto’s being the loudest. and in response, his cheeks would flush in embarrassment, the sight making you only hurt more.
should you quit? you wondered to yourself. it was hard enough on you to hear akaashi telling you his feelings, but it was a whole other thing having several people support him, reminding you every single second of every day that your best friend had fallen for someone else.
you really loved being fukurodani’s volleyball manager. after all, it was one of the biggest excuses for you to spend more time with akaashi. but even aside from that, you made a lot of great friendships and memories with the team.
but you really didn’t know if you could go like this anymore.
sighing, you pulled your bag closer to you as you walked home with akaashi.
“what are you thinking about?”
shaking your head, you mumbled, “nothing important really.”
brows furrowing together, he asked, “mm you sure? you looked super serious for a second.”
“dunno, just thinking about quitting being manager.” you muttered, before realizing what you had just confessed. shit. you didn't know how you were going to get out of this one.
stopping in his tracks, akaashi’s eyes widened in surprise, “w-wait, you’re thinking of doing what?”
muttering a soft damn it under your breath, you quickly threw on a nonchalant facade. giving him a shrug, you said casually, “it’s not that big of a deal keiji, there’s still the others.”
turning back around, you started to walk again while akaashi stood there, fumbling for words. catching back up to you, he pressed, “but why? I thought you loved being manager?”
biting the inside of your cheek, you knew he was right but you had to come up with some excuse, something to throw him off at least for now, “I just, school’s getting pretty busy—”
“is that really it?” he interrupted, his voice slightly turning accusatory.
your eyes narrowed at him, “what does that mean?”
out of the both of you, akaashi was always the calm one. but today it was almost like you were seeing another version of him. where his eyes shook slightly, filled with an emotion that you couldn’t identify, his hands bundled into tight fists at his sides.
“i just—” akaashi started, struggling to find the right words to say, “i feel like you’re not telling me something y/n. you’ve been off the last couple of weeks and I don’t know why—”
you let out a bitter chuckle.
“you’re kidding right?”
if your reaction wasn’t enough to shut akaashi up, the words that followed definitely was. he watched as you shut your eyes tightly, your grip on your bag tightening, voice trembling, “I just, I can't do this anymore keiji.”
akaashi’s eyes softened; moving closer towards you, he started to reach for your hand when you flinched away, the motion causing akaashi to blink in surprise.
“d-don’t.” you whispered, blinking back the tears. “you won’t understand keiji. you won’t get what I feel and there’s no point in me telling you so please, just don’t ask me why.”
“y/n, you can’t shut me out without even giving me a chance.” he reasoned softly to which you shook your head.
“no, you don’t get it. e-everything will change and I just, I can’t handle that—”
“I promise, nothing will change.” akaashi started, “you’ll always be my best friend—”
“I don’t want to be your best friend anymore!” you finally exploded, the word starting to make you feel sick. your voice echoed through the empty street, each word coming back to haunt you when you realized what you had finally done.
but there was no going back.
“I want to be more than that...” you trailed off in a weak whisper. sniffling, you realized you had been crying without even knowing. brushing your cheek with the sleeve of your sweater, you added, “b-but you like someone else and that’s not your fault, it’s all mine. so just, give me some time keiji. i-i’m sorry.” you finally choked out before turning around on your heel and walking away quickly, the tears only falling faster at this point.
shit shit shit shit
just then you felt something tug at your wrist, spinning you around as a slight yelp escaped your mouth. finding yourself being pulled towards Akaashi your faces just millimeters apart, you gasped, “keiji—!?”
without uttering another word, akaashi closed the distance between the two of you as he grabbed your waist, pulling your frame flush against him as his lips enveloped yours in a soft kiss. his other hand cupped the back of your neck, his long fingers threading themselves into your hair as he pressed his lips tightly against yours.
you felt like you were dreaming.
before you could comprehend what was happening, akaashi had pulled away, pressing his forehead against yours as you watched his chest raise up and down with every breath.
“keiji...” you whispered softly.
“it was you.” he confessed quietly, “it was you, this whole time.”
blinking furiously, you stared at your best friend as you slowly registered his words, “w-what, what do you mean?”
lips quirking up into an embarrassed smile, he grinned, “the girl i said i liked? it was you y/n...that’s why i didn’t tell you who it was.”
"oh.” you said as your cheeks flamed up in embarrassment, a shy smile appearing on your face, “it was me?”
cupping your face in both his hands, he pressed another kiss to your lips before saying, “yes, it was you. it always has been.”
as he gazed at you in complete adoration, you laughed softly to yourself, shaking your head in wonder. you were so preoccupied with the idea that the person akaashi liked wasn’t you, you didn’t even pay attention to all the signs and signals he had been giving trying to tell you that it was you.
oh, how the world worked.
iwaizumi
“iwaaaaa.”
“no.”
“hajiiiii.”
“no.”
“hajime! come on!”
turning around to look at you, he rolled his eyes at you before saying the same word he had been for the last several minutes, “no.”
crossing your arms across your chest with a slight huff, you retorted, “but why not?! it’s really that not that big of a deal, you’re just my best friend.”
snorting, he turned his attention back to his laptop, “what kind of best-friends do you see kissing each other y/n?”
“you make it sound crude, it’s not like I’m asking you to be my fuck buddy.” you grumbled, “I just said to teach me how to kiss, just once. It’s literally driving me crazy that I haven’t kissed anyone yet and then there’s the absolute fear of kissing someone and then realizing I suck and being utterly embarrassed for the rest of my life.”
“then just find someone who hasn’t had their first kiss either. bam, both of you suck.”
your narrowed your eyes at him, “do you have a list of men who haven’t had their first kiss? I can barely find one at this stupid university who has yet to sleep with someone, find someone who hasn’t kissed yet?! impossible.”
iwaizumi chuckled softly under his breath as he heard you continue to grumble about how you were going to die alone since you would be too afraid to get intimate with anyone since you “sucked” at it.
did he want to kiss you? always.
but did he expect this to be the way? definitely not.
he knew exactly how this would go, there was no way of it happening any other way. iwaizumi was always better at showing how he felt through actions than words, and after being best friends with you for so long, he knew you’d be able to tell the instant his lips met yours, just how fucking in love he was with you.
“hajimeeeee.” you started to whine again, interrupting his thoughts.
sighing, he turned around on his chair so that he was completely facing you.
his first mistake.
there you sat cross legged, plush lips pulled together in a small pout as you stared at him with your soft wide eyes.
“please haji...” you urge softer this time, a hint of desperation laced within your voice.
iwaizumi’s grip on his jeans tightened. the way you were looking at him was enough to set him off as his heart fluttered at the sound of his name from your lips.
“you do realize you’re still going to be kissing me right?” he pointed out, “you're okay with that? ”
nodding quickly, a smile quickly appeared onto your face. was he being convinced? you waved your hand about nonchalantly, “totally okay, you’re my best-friend, I trust you.”
best friend, iwaizumi winced. the word stung a little more than usual today.
after a while, iwaizumi finally said with a sigh, “look y/n, I don’t know...”
your smile quickly dropped.
“alright, it’s fine.” you said casually, although Iwaizumi could clearly hear the disappointment in your voice. getting up from his bed, you grabbed your bag from beside you and slung it over your shoulder.
“hey, do you where tooru is?” you asked as you made your way towards his door.
at the sound of his best friend’s name, iwaizumi’s ears perked up. brows furrowed together, he looked at you in slight curiosity as a bad feeling erupted in his stomach, “practice, why?”
shrugging, you said, “i'll just go ask him instead, i’m sure he’ll do it.”
oh, hell no.
before he could even think through his actions, iwaizumi pushed himself off of his chair and found himself reaching past you and closing the door with a thud! his arms caged you as you turned around and stared at him in complete shock, eyes wide and lips parted.
chest rising up and down, he stared down at you, eyes swimming with an emotion you had never seen before. your own heart started hammering in your chest at the sudden change in proximity as you could feel iwaizumi’s breath fan your flushed cheeks.
“h-hajime?” you stuttered out, blinking furiously as the boy simply stared at you. iwaizumi felt his brain completely short-circuit. this wasn’t like him at all. he was always the cool-headed one, whether it was keeping oikawa in check or being the supportive one for his friends. but with you, you had always managed to bring out parts of him he never knew existed.
standing there, his gaze dropped down to your lips; it was as if being this close to you activated a magnetic field that he was unable to escape. leaning in towards you, his forehead rested against yours before he mumbled lowly, “a kiss is what you wanted right? then here.”
slipping a hand beneath your jaw, his fingers tilted your face upward before closing the gap and pressing his lips to yours.
what started as a butterfly touch, slightly nervous and afraid, quickly changed as iwaizumi pressed closer, deepening the kiss. feeling your back hit the door, your eyes fluttered to a close as you found yourself melting into his embrace, sighing against his lips as you kissed him back.
iwaizumi’s grip on you tightened. he knew he should stop now before things got out of hand. before you caught on. before you realized how much this kiss meant to him.
teeth tugging at your bottom lip, iwaizumi pulled away reluctantly, resting his forehead against yours. eyes fluttering open, he waited for your eyes to open and when they did, he felt his entire world stop.
upon meeting his gaze, your eyes softened. you didn’t know what you expected when you asked iwaizumi to kiss you. while you were serious about wanting to experience kissing, you couldn’t help but admit that you always wanted your first to be iwaizumi.
“w-was i okay?” you murmured softly.
nodding, he chuckled softly, “yea, you were perfect.”
at his words, your grip on his shirt tightened. a sudden surge of courage coursed through your body when you leaned closer towards him and added, “i think i need more practice.” before crashing your lips onto his.
atsumu
“wow, they should make a rule to not let short people work at libraries. you’d need a stool everywhere you went.” atsumu snorted as he watched you try putting a book away on the highest shelf.
it was a friday afternoon and you and atsumu were both at your local library, volunteering after school.
granted you have to drag him there every week but hey, community service was important to you.
turning around to shoot him a glare, you retorted, crossing your arms, “for your information, I am perfectly capable of doing this.
chuckling softly, atsumu raised a brow, lips twitching, “Oh? Really now??
letting out a huff, you turned back around, standing on your toes as you tried to reach the top, even holding on to the shelf as you balanced yourself. watching you from behind, atsumu simply shook his head and chuckled, finding your stubbornness absolutely freaking adorable. (even though he'd never tell you that)
moving behind you, his hand shot up past yours as he whispered, “just let me do it.” his breath fanning the back of your neck. as he took the book from your hand, his fingers grazed yours ever-so-slightly, enough to send your heart into a frenzy.
get it together y/n! you told yourself.
somewhere along the line, the boundary of friendship between you and atsumu started to blur. nearly everyone around you could see the way both of you slowly fell for each other.
but of course neither of you could, choosing to remain silent in fear of ruining your childhood friendship.
however you weren’t about to simply give up as you turned around to retort back, but instead, it was a decision you were quick to regret. your heart suddenly skipped a beat when it noticed the distance between the two of you was almost nonexistent. and if that wasn’t enough, the way atsumu was smirking at from above as you were completely backed up against the bookshelf, had you holding your breath.
waving the book in the air, a good couple feet above you, atsumu teased, “here, all you have to do is reach for it y/n”
for a split second, you forgot the position in which you were in, a sudden drive of competitiveness within you focusing on only getting the book atsumu dangled above you.
pouting, you complained, “atsumu—! just give it to me!” as atsumu laughed at the concentrated look on your face as you endlessly tried grabbing at the air above you.
reaching upwards one last time, pushing yourself up onto the very tip of your toes, you quickly realized you made a mistake when a mini yelp escaped your lips, your hands clutching the thing nearest to you.
which ended up being?
you guessed it.
atsumu.
wide-eyed, your hands tightened around atsumu’s shirt as you quickly regained your balance. looking up nervously, you saw atsumu’s smirk slowly disappear as it turned into a nervous smile, his eyes gazing down at you with a look that was indescribable. blinking, you found yourself staring at atsumu’s lips, his soft red lips that just seemed oh-so-inviting, yet the thought of them on you had you flushing scarlet red.
“y/n?” atsumu’s voice rasped softly through the thick air, your grip on him tightening as the way his name rolled of his lips had your knees going weak.
but before you could respond, all you could feel was the softness of his nose brushing against yours, his hands that slowly cradled your waist as he pulled you closer into his grasp, and finally his lips following right after. his lips soft as clouds enveloped yours gently, nervously, tenderly, as his mouth caressed yours while you stood there stunned, unable to move as much as an inch.
sensing the hesitation in you, atsumu quickly pulled away, a look of panic flashing across his face. his cheeks went flush under the dim library light, as he looked at you, completely flustered, “fuck—I'm sorry, I don’t know what came over me—”
“I didn’t mind.” you suddenly squeaked, your eyes widening as the words slipped past your lips, making you look away in embarrassment, internally cringing.
you did not just say that y/n!!!
atsumu’s face mirrored yours, a look of surprise on them before the corners of his lips quirked up into a smile, the very smile he would always give only you, the very smile that would always have your heart skipping a beat just at the sight of it.
tilting his head to the side, he raised his brow as he teased, “hmm, you didn’t mind?”
this time, it was your turn to be flustered as you hit his chest lightly, avoiding his teasing eyes as he beamed down at you. chuckling, his forehead fell upon yours, his lips yet again just centimeters away.
“then you wouldn’t mind if I did it again?” he whispered lowly, his eyes falling back down to your lips.
“i wouldn’t,” you said softly, finding yourself inching closer to him, slowly closing the gap.

request: “Can you write a drabble with Akaashi Keiji + Insatiable + Basorexia + Attachment? TY! -anon
pairing: akaashi x gn!reader
Insatiable (adj.) - (of an appetite or desire) impossible to satisfy
Basorexia (n.) - the overwhelming desire to kiss
Attachment (n.) - affection, fondness, or sympathy for someone or something
He clasps the side of your face with his palms, gently placing his forehead against yours, “my love?”
You nudge your nose in response, tightening your grip on his torso as a way of saying yes, I’m listening.
In a quiet whisper he asks, “can I kiss you?”
It’s extraordinary just how much your lover can restrain his basorexia, his overwhelming desire to kiss you— all for the sake of consent.
No matter how many times you’ve kissed, he always asks.
“Of course,” you mumble, letting your lips brush against each other.
The corners of his lips quip into a soft smile, before moving his thumb between your lips to create a small opening. He leans in slowly, he always does, as his way to savour the moment.
You can feel the gentle breeze of air exhaling through his nose, the breath he’s held for quite long finally being released. It’s the simple act of intimacy that deepens the setters attachment for you.
Though perhaps your kisses were insatiable, because he could never get enough of it.

Pairing: Akaashi Keiji x Reader
Warnings: None
Summary: Sleepy dancing with Akaashi, based off of many conversations I've had with @/kageyuji, it's also meant to be a Christmas present for them
Word Count: 796
Playlist: Real Love Baby; Father John Misty, Here Comes The Sun; The Beatles, I Couldn't Be More In Love; The 1975, You're Always On My Mind; Sam Cooke, Can't Help Falling In Love; Elvis Presley, Dream a Dream of Me; Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong, Unchained Melody; The Righteous Brothers
The movie lulls you in and out of sleep, the cheesy storyline playing out on the television, lights dimmed and head resting on Akaashi’s shoulder as he sporadically places kisses onto the top of your head, smiling down at you with love, even if you didn’t always catch it.
“Comfy?” His voice is deep and raspy from not using it, while he takes your hand in his, playing with it, massaging it, and finally bringing it to his lips to kiss the palm of it.
You hum in agreement, eyes heavy as you watch the couple on the television gather by the christmas tree, finally confessing their feelings, the busy business woman who had a heart of ice finally falling for the lovable cowboy… or at least that's what you thought was happening.
It’s the third movie you’ve watched, Akaashi rented almost every single one he could find after hearing you offhandedly mention you wanted to watch them on christmas, and as entertaining as it was to watch the same troupe over and over with the occasional discrepancies, Akaashi’s arms are warm, and his heartbeat lulls you to a calm tired headspace.
And suddenly Akaashi’s getting up, pulling a whine from your lips as he gently moves you, getting up from his spot on the sofa, pausing the movie and playing something on his phone.
“Dance with me?” He’s imitating the man on the television, the couple frozen in time right before they begin to dance.
Akaashi’s eyes are shy, and he’s about to pull his hand back and make a joke about how he just wanted to try it if you hadn't taken his hand.
It’s a romantic picture, Akaashi in a pair of sweats and a hoodie, hair wild from you running your hands through it as you cuddled on the couch, and face, flushed across his cheekbones to his ears, lit up by the soft glow of the television as he stares down with the utmost love in his eyes, down at you, bundled in a blanket and his hoodie, a dark blue one that smelled like Akaashi Keiji.
His blue eyes seem to dance when you take his hand, and he spins you once to the soft rock playing on his phone before he pulls you into his chest, looking down at your face as he swayed with you, one hand on your waist and the other cupping your face carefully.
“Hey.” He’s whispering, maybe not to disturb the moment, face close enough for you to see the flecks of green in his eyes, every small imperfection that made up the perfect Akaashi in front of you.
“Hey.” You whisper back, and Akaashi lets out a breathy laugh as you turn to kiss his palm before leaning onto his chest, listening to his heartbeat as you sway, occasionally one of the hands Akaashi has on your waist coming up to twirl you, soft smile growing slightly everytime you dissolve into laughter.
He sings along to the music, mostly soft humming, but occasionally singing slightly dramatically while making sheepish eye contact, just for you, just to see your smile.
You sway together for a while, basking in his grasp and listening to the music along with his heartbeat until your eyelids grow heavy, no longer meeting his blue eyes, breathing growing relaxed and movements heavy.
“Sleepy? Darling as much as I’d love for you to sleep in my arms, let’s get you laying down ok?”
Akaashi’s heart clenches as you softly open your eyes to meet his, beautiful eyes glazed over with fatigue and love for him.
Quickly turning off the television and collecting his phone, he returns to your embrace, signing deeply and pressing a firm kiss in between your eyebrows, pressing his forehead to yours, just admiring.
And maybe it’s the dim lights, his warm embrace, or the music paired with Akaashi’s heartbeat lulling you to sleep, but either way, he’s takes your hands, leading you to bed, planting kisses on your knuckles as he walks backwards, both hands in yours, not wanting to take his eyes off of you for one second.
Your shared room is illuminated by the moon as he guides you to bed, laying down first and pulling you toward him, resting your head on his chest, the room quiet besides the faint noises from outside and his heartbeat.
It’s when you’re finally drifting off to sleep, safe in his embrace that Akaashi speaks again, gently whispering to the moon about how much he loved you, and how lucky he was to have gotten somebody as beautiful as you. Once his eyes start to feel heavy, he’ll close his eyes, pressing a lazy kiss to your head as his breathing grows slower before finally slipping into unconsciousness.

during your afternoon class when the sunlight would drift through the windows onto akaashi’s face, you couldn’t help but be enamored by his beauty.
his long lashes, slightly messy hair, and soft lips would be something you looked forward to during your morning class. and when the afternoon would finally come, you would be enamored all over again. and sometimes he would spare you a glance while you quickly looked away.
so when he finally asked you out, of course you obliged.

--------------------------------------------
9:03pm
“Don’t tell me you’re afraid of the dark.”
“No, we should just go hiking when the sun is, I don’t know, out?” You glare at a smirking Konoha as Bokuto slings an arm around around your shoulders, pouting at you pleadingly as he bounces on the balls of his feet.
“The other teams manager’s letting them go!!!”
“What if you hurt yourself, Bo?” You frown, and Bokuto gasps before locking pinkies with you, staring you dead in the eye before crossing his heart with his finger.
“I solemnly swear I will not get hurt, Y/N.”
“Do you even know what solemnly means?”
“Nope! Akaashi said it once though-”
“I’m against this as well.” Akaashi puts a hand on the back of his neck, peering down at you as blue eyes notice the shift of your feet in place. “We can go exploring tomorrow-”
“No.” You interject, noticing the immediate wilt of Bokuto’s shoulders before pinching the bridge of your nose, sighing heavily to yourself. “...we can go tonight. Some of you have way too much energy, maybe walking around will tire you guys out.”
“‘Atta girl!” Konoha glomps you as Bokuto hugs your other side, and you laugh a bit as Komi and Sarukui go to gather the flashlights from the other teams-
A dark-haired setter the only one to notice the lilt of nervousness in your laugh among the chaos.
--------------------------------------------------------
10:12pm
“Y/N, do you want to hold my hand?”
“Konoha, stop making moves on her, it’ll never happen.”
“Shut it, Komi!”
You force a chuckle, trudging along behind a talkative Bokuto as Akaashi strolls besides you, glancing at you once in a while as you keep your hands deep in your pockets, ensuring that no one would be able to see the nervous clench of your fists. Akaashi lifts another branch for you as you smile in thanks, eyes flitting around the dark as you swallow tightly.
“You didn’t have to do this, you know. You could’ve stayed.” Akaashi’s talking before he can stop himself, and you blink at the abruptness of his words.
You frown, laughing a bit at Akaashi’s usual polite tone before nudging the quiet boy with your shoulder once.
“Careful, ‘Kaashi- you might make me think you don’t want me here.”
Akaashi’s jaw clenched in the dark, noting the waver in your voice before making a calculative decision. His chest twinged as his lips parted, words slipping out quietly as the rest of the team laughed among themselves.
“And what if I say I don’t?”
Your feet slow, Akaashi walking ahead to merely glance back at you as the smile on your face completely disappears.
“Am I...slowing you guys down?” Your hurt tone made Akaashi look forward, unwilling to see the flash of pain across your face as he wishes he could take it back-
“Yeah.” Akaashi says tightly, noticing the other boys have quieted down as well, the tension at the back of the group now noticeable as everyone seems to still.
“No she’s not, Y/N don’t listen-!”
“It’s alright, Bo.” You say softly, forcing a chuckle as you avoid everyone’s stares. “I’ll head back. I know the way.”
“I’ll go with you.” The tension in Akaashi’s chest relaxes, and he begins to follow you before your snapped response makes him stop in his steps.
“No. I want to go by myself. I might slow you down, Akaashi.”
Akaashi opens his mouth to press the matter, but Konoha’s faster. He clasps the blue-eyed boy’s shoulder in annoyance, shaking his head with a you’ve done enough, gesture. You were already far now, and Akaashi stared wide-eyed after you-
his plan to get you back to safety completely backfiring.
“Go, Akaashi, king of sucking the fun out of things.” Bokuto says childishly, nudging his friend a long as Akaashi casts another look into the now empty darkness behind him-
wishing he hadn’t said anything in the first place as he prays you reach the camp before they do.
----------------------------------
11:00pm
“Maaaan, I’m beat.”
“We should thank Y/N for letting us go.” Bokuto yawns as the boys trudge towards the camp sluggishly.
“Some of us have a lot of things to say to Y/N.” Konoha says carefully, refusing to glance in Akaashi’s direction before scoffing. “Let’s go make sure she got here safe, she should be sleeping by now.”
Komi and Sarukui emerge a few moments later from the entrance of the girl’s dormitories, running frantically as Konoha blinks in confusion. Bokuto wipes the tiredness out of his eyes as the two boys pant out of breath.
“Y/N never came back!”
“What?! Shit, we have to go back-”
“The teachers are out looking, right now-”
Konoha laughs bitterly, gritting his teeth before spinning on his heel with an accusatory edge to his voice. “What the hell are you gonna do now....Akaashi?”
But he was already gone.

12:01pm
It was dark.
You didn’t know how many minutes or hours it had been, deciding to stay put instead of venturing further into your worst fear. All sense of direction lost, you had sat in a patch of daffodils, seeming to shine in the moonlight as you willed anyone to come.
The pain in your ankle causes you to hiss as you stretch your leg out in front of you, unable to walk anymore. You stare up at the moon, fear now an exhausted emotion in your veins.
Anyone. Please, anyone.
You should have pressed to stay with the group. You knew you wouldn’t be able to come back on your own, so why didn’t you?
Akaashi’s face flashes in your head again as your eyes seem to well up with more unshed tears, wondering why his words had as big of an impact on you as they did.
Keiji. The most sensible one on the team, always trailing besides you, the first to give you high-fives before matches. The one to remind the team of your birthday, always saving you the seat next to him at lunch under the trees. Keeping the boys in line when they show up for morning practice so you can take a much-needed rest, sometimes an extra breakfast packed away in his bag-
Why did it hurt so much coming from him?
“Don’t kid yourself.” You whispered to yourself, realizing you were all alone. There were no feelings to hide in front of anybody anymore. Your face found your knee again, feeling the material of your pants wet with your tears. “You know why. You’re in love with him.”
You sniffle, feeling absolutely dumb. Feelings took precedence over your safety as you had stomped away, childishly not realizing Akaashi just wanted to bring you back to camp. Of course he noticed, what made you think he wouldn’t?
“And what if I say I don’t?”
You whimper, digging your hands into the dirt beneath you, collecting strewn petals.
“Keiji.” It was soft. Your tone was completely defenseless as you sobbed into your dirtied palms-
“I’m here.”
Your eyes snap open, head jolting up. You relax when you see that you had imagined it, not seeing anyone in front of you as you chuckle humorlessly.
“I’m going insane.” You whisper-
a jacket with Fukurodani’s colors slipping over your vision.
You gasp, taking the jacket laid across your head off your face to look up owlishly at a panting Akaashi, stripped off his team jacket as he stood in front of you in just a fitted black shirt. He bends at the knee, tilting his head at you as he finds stability in his voice despite the breathlessness.
He felt punched in the stomach at the sight of dirt streaking your cheek, a trail of tears flowing from each eye freely as the look of fear on your face melts into one of relief.
“Are you hurt?”
“K-Keiji...” You blink, not believing the sight of the beautiful boy bent in front of you. Akaashi clears his throat, wiping some sweat from his brow before cupping your cheek gently, smiling softly when you lean into his touch. Your eyes well up with tears of relief before Akaashi tugs the material back over your eyes.
“You hate people seeing you cry, right?”
“M-My ankle...” Is all you manage out, and you feel Akaashi assess the damage, frowning when the slightest touch makes you wince. The blue-eyed boy takes his jacket, wrapping it around your shoulders instead before facing the opposite direction of you. You blink as he presents his back, glancing back at you with a softness in his eyes you can’t pinpoint.
“Wrap your arms around my neck.”
“I’m too heavy...”
“You aren’t.”
You shakily comply, feeling Akaashi carefully lift your legs before beginning to trudge a long. The silence was thick with unsaid words as you breathe in his scent, piggybacking on the setter as you struggle to find the right words.
“Keiji-”
“I’m sorry.” His voice cracked as your eyes widen, and he pauses for a brief second within the silence. “Y/N, I just wanted...”
“I know.” You cut him off with a hush, the pain in your ankle dulling to a slight throb.
“I never meant-”
“I know.”
“...wanted to keep you safe-”
“Keiji?” You cut him off a second time, and Akaashi stills his movements completely as you rest your head on his shoulder, the setter feeling tears wet his shoulder as you smile in the darkness.
“Thank you for finding me.” You whisper, and Akaashi lets go of your good leg for a second to hastily wipe at his eyes.
“Are you crying?” Your tone is teasing now, and the dark-haired boy scoffs, beginning to walk again.
“Look who’s talking.”
“Hey!” You protest, feeling his grip on your legs tighten ever so slightly. Akaashi glances back at you, and you gasp, pulling back a little on instinct from your place on his back.
“Y/N.”
“What?” You question hastily, embarrassed at the proximity as Akaashi’s lips stretch into a slight smirk.
“If you’re gonna confess, confess to me, not when you think nobody’s listening.”
Your face turns hot, the pain now unnoticeable as your eyes turn owlish, beginning to stutter excuses.
12:36
Akaashi turns his head, blue eyes bright in the moonlight as he whispers against your lips.
“Though I think you can guess my answer.”

“Hey, hey, hey!” Bokuto’s resounding chant seemed to rumble through the entire apartment.
“Hey, Bokuto,” you smiled, tilting your head at him.
“It’s great to see you!” He was beaming at you as he pulled you in for a hug, face flushed and hair all ruffled. You weren’t sure how many drinks he’d had, but you could tell by the colour of his cheeks that he wasn’t going to be standing upright for much longer.
You grinned up at him. “Happy birthday, by the way.”
“Thank you!” His voice boomed out of his chest – far too loud, considering the circumstances. But, you smiled nonetheless. That was Bokuto for you.
He ushered you inside before you had time to think, patting your shoulders as you stumbled through his landing room. His apartment wasn’t large by any means, but he sure had tried to stuff a lot of people in it.
There were some faces you recognized – old team members from Fukurodani, Yukie, Kaori… and it was easy enough to fall into the groove of conversation with them. Well, as best you could, given the noise.
True to form, Bokuto’s party was little more than pure chaos. Mostly led by Bokuto himself, in cahoots with some guy who looked a little like a rooster. And of course, it was fun to watch. But something about the cacophony and the crowd was making your heart beat a little faster. You weren’t feeling claustrophobic, per say, but you needed some fresh air.
You almost laughed at yourself for that. You’d been at this party, what? Twenty minutes? And you already needed a time out? But, you supposed that’s what tended to happen once you got to your second year of university. You felt more and more like an old crone each day.
That, and there was a notable absence from the revelry. You didn’t want to think about him – no, you wouldn’t think about him. But that didn’t shift the weight in your stomach.
Thank God Bokuto had a balcony. It was rather quaint and small, but it would do. Just a few minutes in the cold and the dark, and you’d be ready to socialise again.
You sighed, turning to step into the shadows next to the door.
“Keiji!” The name slipped out of you before you could contain yourself.

LITERALLY DEPRESSO AKAASHI HOURS SOMEONE GIVE ME LVOE RIP
➵ you just want a cute polaroid of your boyfriend.
wc: 1211
warnings: gn!reader, time-skip occupation spoilers (?)
a/n: jem, dear, this one’s for you! if i remember correctly, i believe that today is your birthday. if that’s so, i hope you have a wonderful day (although, i hope that for every day, too). you’ve always been so kind to me, and the comments and tags you’ve left on my fics never fail to make me smile and make me feel like i’m actually Doing something here. i appreciate your support more than i can put into words, but i just want to say thank you! i miss seeing you on my dash, but i hope you’re doing well and that this fic brings you some comfort ♡
“Sit still.”
You grouch, the view finder of your polaroid camera held up to your eye.
A tiny image of Akaashi stares back at you, fist covering his mouth as he sat languidly on your bed under a garland of fairy lights. You’d wanted to put them up for the ‘ambiance’ – Akaashi had done most of the work, reaching the ceiling with ease. You’d played the role of ‘artistic director’ more so than handyman, but neither of you minded.
“I am,” Akaashi murmurs, raising his eyebrows ever so slightly.
You lower the camera, pouting at him. “You keep covering your face.”
“And?” Akaashi raises an eyebrow at you.
“Stop doing that.”
“It’s for the aesthetic.”

hey hey dino!! can i get headcanons of akaashi meeting his s/o for the first time at a bookshop and then how they confessed or got together afterwards? -🍙
wahhhh sorry for responding to this so late but i was thinking a lot about how to do this and i finally got what i want in my head. i hope you like this onigiri-anon !! i also really missed the second-hand bookstores near my campus so i mentally projected myself there. alsoo,, this ended up being a drabble ajgkla i just love bookstores so much (and akaashi)
Akaashi + meeting his s/o in a bookstore
akaashi loved his part-time job and he was proud to say it, especially with his own friends struggling with having to deal with customers in cafes or weird people in clothing stores. instead of those, he was in his ideal place which was essentially being surrounded by books. it was a small, bookstore that sold second-hand books for really great deals. the store would attract the occasional wanderer who’d thumb through the dusty shelves, sometimes buying one or two books, or just wandering back outside. his regulars though, the faces who akaashi would recognize, were often literature students who’d specifically inquire about titles they’d need for a class. that, and one other person who akaashi found himself inexplicably drawn to.
he couldn’t really tell what course you were taking, nor did he particularly think it was his business, but you came to the shop at a specific time every week: four o’ clock, every friday. you’d browse the shelves, paying special attention to the ‘recent arrivals’ collection and always walked out of the store with a handful of paperbacks. akaashi could tell from your purchases that you were a genre-jumping kind of reader, something that he admired. after a bit of time, he’d make small conversation with you at the counter while he wrapped up the books you ordered. sometimes he’d talk about a book you were buying that he read before or he’d ask about whether or not the one you got last week was any good.
“hmmm, this seems to be a mystery novel weekend for you,” akaashi hummed, smiling down at the stack of agatha cristie novels that you placed on the counter.
“i used to read these a lot when i was younger,” you shrugged a shoulder. “so it also doubles as a nostalgia trip.”
“i see,” akaashi let out a small chuckle as rang up your order. “that will be five dollars.” you rummaged around your pocket for change, dropping a few crumpled dollar bills and coins on the counter, only to come up fifty cents short.
“dang, i should have known not to buy that overpriced coffee earlier,” you laughed, going through the stack of books. “i guess i’ll take out this one...”
akaashi only needed a split-second to think up what to do. “you know what? think of it as a discount,” he smiled, plucking the book out of your hand and re-adding it to the stack of books that he was about to wrap in brown paper.
“really?” you blinked at him in surprise.
“yeah. i mean, you’re a pretty regular customer,” akaashi said. “although, don’t tell that to the lit majors. i might go out of business if they knew,” he whispered, handing your books to you.
“i’ll keep that in mind,” you laughed.
“and by the way,” akaashi added quickly. “i know you mostly choose books here based on what interests you but, you can make some special requests if you want.”
“and... will they just magically appear in that secret storeroom behind you?” you raised your eyebrows at him.
“as much as i would like that, sadly they don’t ‘magically appear’. i have some connections.”
“so, a black market then,” you nodded your head. akaashi couldn’t help but chuckle.
“yes, exactly that.”
“well, if it’s not too much trouble for your underground, second-hand book mafia, do you think you could find a copy of ‘station eleven?’” you asked.
“station eleven,” akaashi picked up a pen and wrote down the title.
“by emily st. john mandel,” you added. “i read the blurb at a bookstore but it was way out of budget.”
“i’ll see what i can do,” akaashi said confidently.
his ‘black market second-hand books’ connections happened to be just an online website full of second-hand bookstore owners. most of the time, they’d talk about the best places to get books but everyone helped each other out. akaashi put up a post inquiring about a copy of ‘station eleven’ and got a response in less than an hour, and the actual book in less than two days. the hard part about that was akaashi ended up impatiently waiting for you to come by the bookstore again. and because of that, he ended up reading the book that you requested for.
by the time you came again on friday, akaashi had long finished the book and had it waiting for you on the counter.
“no way! book mafia is real!” you grinned, holding the copy in your hands.
“real, and always at your service,” akaashi bowed, feeling warmth bloom in his chest at the sight of your smile. “i hope you don’t mind that i read through it.”
“as long as you don’t give any spoilers,” you wagged a finger at him. “and besides, i’d do that if i were you.”
“i’ll just say that it’s a wonderful read and leave it at that. we also have some more stuff at the new releases collection.”
“ooh, yes please!” you smiled, rifling through the box beside the counter that akaashi had strategically repositioned. he watched as you tucked your hair behind both ears and rifled through the stacks, eyes scanning through titles and blurbs. he was staring before he even realized it.
“oh my gosh,” you gasped, breaking akaashi out of his reverie. “are these goosebumps books.”
“you noticed,” akaashi smiled, joining you at the new releases box as you pulled goosebump book after goosebump book from it. “they sell these pretty cheaply since they’re essentially pulp fiction books for kids.”
“these were my childhood,” you laughed, reading out the titles. “’deep trouble,’ ‘deep trouble 2′, ‘vampire breath’.” you gasped again as you held up another book. “the curse of camp cold lake!”
akaashi laughed at your excitement. you shot him a pout. “what? i know they’re not esteemed literature but--”
“no, it’s not that,” he shook his head. “you see, i’m more of a ‘revenge of the living dummy’ kind of guy.”
“i haven’t read that one! it’s a trilogy, right?”
“you can start now,” akaashi handed you the three, slim paperback novels.
“alright,” you nodded. back at the counter, you watched as akaashi carefully wrapped all your books with brown paper, tie it all to secure them together, before pressing a stamp on the edge. it was one of those things you loved about the bookstore, aside from the cheap books and the very cute storeowner. you always unwrapped your books as carefully and tenderly as how akaashi wrapped them.
“let me know what you think of them in a week,” he said, handing the package to you. you hugged your books to your chest.
“i’ll probably take less than a week to read all of these,” you said, fidgeting with the hem of your sleeve. “i mean, they’re pretty slim novels.”
“oh,” akaashi blinked, getting the hint. “i’ll... hear your thoughts soon then?”
“soon,” you nodded brightly.
as the weeks continued, you and akaashi exchanged book recommendations, most often reminiscing about old, pulp fiction books you read as children. what started out as you coming in once a week turned into a few days a week, and then at least once a day in between your classes. akaashi loved the way you’d sometimes enter, seemingly in a rush, and immediately start talking about the book you just read or even just about your day.
that was until one day, he realized that he was pretty much looking at the door and wishing for you to pop in instead of reading his book to pass the time. ‘if i could just close up shop today and talk to them, that would be great,’ he wondered, checking his watch again and finding that your class was a good hour away from ending. akaashi felt a rush of joy when he saw you come in. this time, he didn’t confine himself behind the counter while you browsed the shelves. the two of you took turns pulling books from shelves, reading out blurbs, and sharing recommendations. you liked how your conversation wasn’t just limited to what you were reading, but other things that happened in your day and during your classes.
akaashi wished that he could do this all the time. and then, he realized a way how.
on friday, you bought a little more books than usual for your weekend reading and came back again on monday to an expectant akaashi. “well, how was it?” he asked, quirking up a smile at you.
“amazing. i can’t believe it’s taken me this long to read it,” you grinned, your copy of ‘the giver’ by lois lowry still in hand. akaashi smiled at it, knowing that you probably ran over to the bookstore right after reading it.
“the fact that it’s been banned in several schools makes it all the more compelling to read,” akaashi added. even though he was talking, he felt as if he was still holding in a breath. he listened and nodded along, adding in his insights as you talked about the book, until finally, you brought up what he was waiting for.
“by the way, you know how most of the books here have all these doodles and writing on the pages?” you asked.
“yeah?” akaashi cocked his head.
“well, i saw this one on a page. it said ‘will you date me?’ i thought it was cute,” you smiled softly. “hopefully the person said yes.”
“that remains to be seen,” akaashi cleared his throat.
“hmm?” you looked at him, puzzled. akaashi took the book from you and opened it to the first page. there, on a corner of the page, was his name. your eyes widened at the sight as you quickly put two and two together.
“oh.”
“yeah...” akaashi pursed his lips as he watched you. you crinkled your nose and quirked a smile up at him.
“did the book mafia just ask me out?”
akaashi laughed and closed the book. “they just did. and they eagerly wait for your reply.”
“well, if the book mafia also likes watching movies,” you said nonchalantly.
“the book mafia loves stories in all mediums,” akaashi smiled down at you. “is this saturday alright?”
“this saturday sounds wonderful,” you agreed.

the music in your ears thrums loudly. it’s a dangerous volume, you know that already, but there’s something addicting about the way all the noises mesh together and thrum a steady rhythm in your ears. you’re more than willing to take a lecture from your mom or doctor or whoever as long as you get to feel everything that comes with the loud music playing in your headphones.
your legs are crossed as you sit on your bed, facing no direction in particular with your eyelids closed and lashes resting gently on the curve of your cheek. your breathing is slow and steady, a great contrast from the overwhelming tempo and volume of the song. your hands are warm, resting gently on your knees.
someone walks in—you don’t hear it, obviously, but there’s the slightest vibration that echoes through the wooden floor of your room and runs up your mattress, into your legs. your eyes don't open. you stay calm, suppressing the smile that threatens to appear.
your headphones are brought down to rest around your neck. your eyes flutter open, finally giving in and letting yourself smile at the person you expected to walk in. all black hair, blue eyes, akaashi looks stunning even underneath the cheap light of your desk lamp.
he smiles back at you. it’s an endearing sight. warm hands—ones are not your own—come up to hold the sides of your face with enough tenderness to make your leftover nerves simmer down into a gentle sigh.
akaashi leans closer. muffled music swims through the air, still playing through your headphones. he exhales, and it fans across your face and makes you dizzy and warm and needy.
“hi,” he whispers against your lips. you hum in response, eyes struggling to stay open and face leaning further into his touch. a breathy laugh escapes him and he leans in even closer.
“how was your day?” he asks you, polite and routine-like. you want to roll your eyes at how he’s prolonging everything but response regardless.
“good,” you think for a second, “better with you.”
akaashi smiles. you melt. your eyes close and he leans in and your lips fall open, soft and pliant and willing against his.

Akaashi getting all flustered everytime you call him pretty 🥺👉👈
“hey bokuto, hey pretty boy.”
akaashi stilled at your words, eyes widening slightly as you approached him with a wide smile. he tried to smile, to tell you that you looked nice, but nothing came out. you giggled softly, walking to class with a final wave. he ignored bokuto’s teasing smile, following you to class as well. at practice, you did the same thing, but he was prepared.
“hey pretty boy.”
“hey pretty girl.”
you smiled softly, pausing in your steps before looking at him shyly. he smiles back, trying to get himself to ask you out, when bokuto interrupts.
“hey, hey, hey! i know you think she’s cute, akaashi, but i really need you to set for me.”

————————————————✈
Small pebbles and bits of dirt fly across the ground as thunderous feet run through them. The boys panting and sweating profusely as their feet begrudgingly brought them closer and closer to the top of the hill.
It was the second day of the training camp in Saitama. Four teams were in attendance and you just so happened to be the manager of arguably the best team present, Fukurodani Academy, who of which were currently running across the hills as a penalty.
You sighed as you watched them run over in the scorching summer heat; hair and shirts damp with sweat.
“And away they go,” you said to yourself, fetching some towels that would most definitely be needed when they made it back.
You almost felt bad, you really did until your eyes caught sight of Bokuto doing a cartwheel he just recently learned in his pursuit to the top of the hill. You laughed and sighed.
“Of course,” you said to yourself once more.
The boys finally made their way back, their feet barely carrying their bodies over to the safe haven that was the gymnasium, the shade it offered being a godsend.
“Thank God,” you heard Konoha gasp out from beside you. “Thank God it’s over.”
He jinxed it.
You sighed one more time as the boys ran up the hill, facing their second penalty later that day.
Your eyes found your poor boyfriend Akaashi Keiji, breaths heavy and beads of sweat rolling down his forehead as he ran up and came back down just like yesterday.
You turned towards your perspiring boyfriend.
“Can we stop running?” you said to him. “I think I’m dying.”
He raised his eyebrows at you questioningly.
“You’re dying?” he jabbed back at you, his breaths still coming out in continuous pants.
You meekly walked towards him and placed your hands on each of his flushed cheeks, squeezing his face together will mindlessly stroking it.
“I’m dying seeing my poor baby have a hard time,” you pouted.
He sighed in defeat, a small chuckle escaping his lips.
“I see,” he said while you gently wiped away his sweat with a towel. “Then we just have to not lose any more sets.”
He, of course, also jinxed it.

The bell rings quietly as you push the door open, and suddenly you feel like you’re home.
It’s a small bookstore a little ways away from your school. You’ve been visiting for years now, so you’ve gotten used to the dark red wood facade, the slightly musty scent of old books, and the dim lighting inside.
“Hello.” you greet the old woman behind the counter politely, bowing your head as she smiles.
“Hello, dear! We just got a new shipment in the back, you should take a look! Might be something you like there.”
With another nod, you drag your feet toward the back as instructed, drinking in the sight of all the shelves. Your fingers drag over the spines of the books as you pass, as though trying to extract the stories from within each of the bound pages. Finally arriving at the book of the store, you see that the owner was correct—there’s a variety of new books available, all different genres and sizes.
WIth a quick scan, one book sticks out to you. It’s decently thick, a red spine with gold lettering in a pretty calligraphy font. Your fingers twitch toward it, ready to pull it out and inspect it, when a sudden sound from your phone makes you flinch.

the apartment-- house-- room?-- wherever you are-- is hot and crowded and loud, but you can’t help but feel addicted to the rush of energy you get from being here. maybe following bokuto’s invite was a good thing.
you’re not sure what’s in the cup you’re holding--it’s spiked. definitely. the flavor is lost on your tongue as you throw back yet another cup and throw it out in the kitchen.
from the corner of your eye, you spot bokuto talking to another one of his friends--the tall one with the weird black hair. you’re about to approach them to start a conversation when another person catches your attention from across the room.
it’s akaashi. hands around a red plastic cup, eyes trained on you until you notice him--then his eyes flit to the side and you find it way too endearing for your own good.
you smile. perfect opportunity, right there.
tipsy and playful, you grin widely at your black-haired friend, approaching him quickly with a jump in your step until you sidle up to him and he returns the expression. there’s a cute little gleam in his eyes as he smiles at you. it makes you lose your breath.
“hi.”
“hi.”
it’s an awkward greeting, but you both delve off into stupid giggles. (he’s not tipsy, judging by the leftover liquid in his cup, but he laughs like he is. it makes your head fuzzier than it already is.)
“having fun?” you ask him. his eyes shift to the side and he drones out an ‘uhh…’ before responding.
“not really my favorite place. it’s alright, i guess.” a pause, then, “it’s nice with you here, though.”
oh. oh wow, fuck. a small smile lifts on his lips as he watches your expression turn flustered. cheeky motherfucker.
a low chuckle escapes you as you snap back to your senses. “you think i’m the only nice part about the party?” it’s meant to be a simple joke, one that flusters him and makes his face flush and ears warm, but when he looks up at you, expression steadfast and unmoving, you know you’ve gotten yourself into something.
“i guess you are. it’d be even nicer if it was just you, though.”
holy shit. stupid boy. stupid drinks. akaashi is smiling--a genuine one, it’s not just cocky, but there’s certainly a hint of achievement in his expression.
“okay.” you’re short-circuiting. two syllables is the most you can get out in a five second time span so you take a minute to recover. “why don’t we leave, then?”
he nods in agreement, smile still stuck on, and your thoughts are filled with ‘kiss him stupid kiss him stupid’ as you grab his hand and lead him out.
