Swing Kids
โThis team isโฆweโre made up of a Chinese prisoner who would have been a brilliant choreographer if it wasnโt for the war. A bright, confident, strong willed young woman who was forced to provide for her family after losing both her parents. A civilian who became a prisoner only because he was wrongfully accused of being a communist. A communist dancer who could have stood on the stages of Carnige Hall if it wasnโt for politic ideology; and a humble black man who has found his only friends in life in these four individuals.
Ladies and gentlemanโฆwe areโฆThe Swing Kids.ย
And the title of this performance isโฆf*uck ideologyโ

I keep seeing comments about how idols donโt have the right to complain or feel sad because theyโre โcelebritiesโ who are โrichโ. Honestly, that makes me really mad. Idols are humans too. They have their own thoughts, emotions, and feelings. Theyโre not perfect, just like us, and thatโs okay. I understand that some people may not like some idols for certain reasons. However, that does NOT give you the right to be leaving hateful/hurtful comments on their social media accounts or music videos.ย
The idea that mental illnesses are not real needs to stop. Mental health issue is very much a real and serious issue. Idols have their own problems and struggles that we fans will never know about unless we become idols ourselves. You canโt just go around telling them how to feel or what to do because you have this particular view of them. Theyโre always under constant pressure to beย โperfectโ and thatโs already hard enough on them. They do NOT need any hateful/hurtful comments to read. For all you know, those words could be the last straw.
Ever since the devastating news about Jonghyun was announced, I keep seeing those terrible comments about him and other idols. Thatโs why I decided to make this post talking about just a few idols who talk about these issues. Isnโt one death enough for you all?? How many deaths does there need to be until you realize that this is a serious issue that needs to be handled delicately? Why do you have to continue to criticize idols and tell them to go die just because theyโre not doing/didnโt do something exactly the way you want them to? Why do you make their mental health issues invalid simply just because theyโre celebrities? Remember that these idols are human beings too. Think before you post, comment, or say anything. Once you say it, it cannot be taken back. Donโt say something that youโll regret later on. This goes for any mental health issues regarding a human being, idol or not.
No offense to the Armyโs, but BTS are not โthe first kpop actโ to appear in America, and not the first to sign under american label, Psy and Wonder Girls is the first kpop act to debut in America and he actually won an award in AMAโs, heโs also the first to debut on American TV, CL was on Late Late Show first too. Psy, CL and BigBang, SNSD are one of the artist that won in Youtube Awards in america and also all around europe, the very first kpop group to win outside Korea is Super Junior. Psy, BigBang and CL,are the first to sign under a American label, the first artist in kpop that worked with UNICEF is jinusean, before that thereโs, BigBang whoโs supports UNICEF as solo and as a group, also Snsd, SuJu, Tvxq, Epik High, 2ne1, f(x), Shinee and much more. So no BTS didnโt do that first..
And I mean in the serious sense, not when youโre joking around or saying it lightheartedly. Kpop should not consume your life to point that you stop living your own. It shouldnโt consume you to the point that you start thinking you have the RIGHT to make decisions for idols who are adults and capable of making their own. Yes it should make you happy and sometimes yeah, it can cause pain, but it shouldnโt be your ONLY happiness in life. You know why? BECAUSE THEYโRE PEOPLE TOO. Just like you, they have hopes, feelings, and dreams and for many of them that probably includes more than just the fans. It includes family, friends, significant others and a family of their own. If you get to date, get married, and have kids, so do they! Idol-fan relationships, though special and meaningful, are not the only relationship you should have in your life. Kpop should make you happy but it shouldnโt be your only source of happiness because Iโm positive itโs not their only one.
***Update: I didnโt expect this to be so popular and Iโm embarrassed๐ However, this was mostly in response to the backlash from Chenโs announcement. Kpop can be a solace for many people (it has been for me many times) but donโt become so obsessive that youโre trying to control others life or youโre being toxic.****
