The Wolf

Most are familiar with the story of the wolf in sheep’s clothing: The sly predator posing as prey to descend on the flock and eat them as they are none the wiser. But the story is remembered all wrong, the wolf didn’t have to wear sheep’s clothes at all. He stood before them as a wolf, with claws pointed, canines jutted, and eyes round in their deep, black middles, and simply said, “You are wolves, too. Wolves are better than sheep. Stronger than sheep. You are not sheep.”

Foolishly, they agreed. “I am better than the others, so I must be a wolf,” they thought. And so the wolf ate the sheep, one by one. Where normally they herded together and protected each other, they stood idly, wrongfully unafraid. They had forgotten that what hurts one of them, hurts all of them. They preferred to be better, to think they were wolves, and wolves don’t eat other wolves—only the less than, only the sheep.

And what do you think happened, as the last sheep stood in the glade, and the wolf approached him with grin bloodied and eager? “My brother,” the sheep said smugly, a moment before he was eaten alive.

Wild

Feelings seize

Behind my poker resting face

Thoughts radiating out of my pores

The moon attempts to pull my tears out

As they want to go back home

To the ocean

Instead this werewolf

Howls at the moon

Wanting to slaughter innocent sheep

A fierce

Beast

Yet skittish at the sight of any possible danger

Feeling the wild

Clashing around

Dragging its claws around the inside of me in protest

All the while the sheep

Have grown parasitic teeth

And now they are the wolves Blank eyes

Of a barbarian

Willing to do anything to survive

In the worst of moments

The the savage has been suppressed

With the good old remedy of lack of sleep

Ez az ex libris Halácsi Kati apukájának a születésnapjára készült, aki építőmérnök és egy igazi ezermester. A képen éppen az asztalánál látható, ahogy éppen nagyban tervez valamit. A betűket a szabványírásból rajzoltam át, hogy illeszkedjenek az ex libris stílusához.

This ex libris was made for a civil engineer who keep animals and has thousand things to do. You can find him working at his table, on his next project. For the type I chose the standard blueprint letterform, which I slighty redesigned to match the style of the ex libris.

Quote from the upcoming book I illustrated. The illustration is the back endpaper map from the book with the blueprint of the lighthouse which is the home of the main character, the young girl, Atlanta. 

Szelesszirt nem véletlenül kapta ezt a nevet, mikor ideépítették a világítótornyot. Azelőtt sehogyan sem hívták ezt a magányos kis szigetet az óceán közepén, ami területre alig nagyobb, mint egy közepes halászhajó. Miután azonban elkészültek a toronnyal, és elhívták az Admirálist, hogy ünnepélyesen avassa fel az épületet, valahogyan csak el kellett nevezni. És mivel az építkezés ötszáztizenkét napja során egyetlen nap sem volt itt, amikor ne fújt volna a szél, az építésvezető végül az utolsó pillanatban ezt a szót súgta az Admirális fülébe.

A hely, ahová a névadó ünnepségen a falhoz vágott zöld pezsgősüveg becsapódott, még ma is tisztán látható, mert azt a részt csak az avatás előtt fél órával sikerült befejezni, és az apró szilánkok beleragadtak a friss vakolatba. Amikor rásüt a nap, a falnak az a része még a legnagyobb nyárban is úgy csillog, mint az ablak, ha télen ráfagy a lehelet.

Mi már több mint három éve élünk Apával a világítótoronyban, és az azóta eltelt ezeregyszáztizenkét napból összesen hatszor volt eddig szélcsend. Ez a mai a hetedik szélcsendes nap: a születésnapom.

Illusztrációk a Bild grillkönyvéhez

Tavasszal jelent meg a PIPER és a Das Bild kiadásában a Du grillst es doch auch!: Das BILD-Grillbuch című grill szakácskönyv, amihez én készítettem a vonalas illusztrációkat. Jó volt megint ételeket rajzolni, ez már a harmadik ilyen projektem volt A boldog hentes felesége és a Magyar Vöröskereszt Filléres szakácskönyve után. A projekt lebonyolítását Michael Gottscheck végezte a frankfurti kentbannerbrown stúdióban. 

Illustrations for The Bild’s grillbook

Du grillst es doch auch!: Das BILD-Grillbuch is a grill cookbook that was published recently by the German publisher PIPER and The Bild. I had the opportunity to make illustrations for the book, almost 70 of them. It was a great fun to make line-art food and animal illustrations again, after the Happy Butcher’s Wife and the Hungarian Red Cross: Low-cost Cookbook.  Thank you to Michael Gottscheck (kentbannerbrown Frankfurt) for the comission!
