summary: a quiet night under the stars reveals the softer side of luke as he shares a rare moment of vulnerability with you.
The stars above Camp Half-Blood always seemed brighter when the nights were quiet. Tonight was one of those nights, the kind where the air carried a stillness so heavy it almost felt sacred. You didnât expect Luke to find you here, sitting on the hill overlooking the strawberry fields.
âCouldnât sleep? âhis voice broke the silence, soft and familiar.
You looked up to see him standing there, his golden hair catching the faint glow of moonlight. He wasnât wearing his usual smirk; instead, his expression was calm, almost serene.
âSomething like that. âyou said, patting the patch of grass beside you. âWhat about you?
He sat down, the warmth of his presence chasing away the chill in the air. âSame. âhe admitted, glancing at the sky. âToo much on my mind.
It was rare for Luke to talk about himself, to let his guard down. You didnât press him, knowing heâd speak when he was ready. Instead, you tilted your head back to look at the stars, the silence between you comfortable and unspoken.
âDo you ever wonder if the gods look down on us? âhe asked suddenly, his voice tinged with something you couldnât quite place, bitterness, maybe, or longing.
âAll the time. âyou admitted. âBut I donât think theyâre watching for the reasons we hope.
Luke huffed a quiet laugh, and you felt his shoulder brush against yours as he leaned back on his hands. âNo, probably not. But itâs nice to imagine, isnât it? That someone up there actually cares.
You turned to him then, catching the way his gaze lingered on the stars. In this light, he looked almost boyish, like the weight of his responsibilities had been momentarily lifted.
âThey care. âyou said softly, âjust not the way we need them to.
He glanced at you, his blue eyes meeting yours. For a moment, neither of you spoke. The world seemed to shrink down to just the two of you, the stars above and the earth beneath your feet.
âSometimes I think youâre the only person who really sees me. âhe murmured, his voice so quiet it was almost lost to the wind.
Your breath caught in your throat. âI do see you, Luke. All of you. Not just the brave leader or the rebel. The person underneath it all.
He smiled then, small and almost shy, as if he didnât quite know how to handle your words. âAnd that doesnât scare you?
âNo. âyou said without hesitation. âIt makes me want to stay.
His hand found yours, his fingers threading through yours with a tenderness that caught you off guard. âI donât know what I did to deserve you. âhe said, his voice barely more than a whisper.
You squeezed his hand gently. âMaybe the gods are looking out for us after all.
Luke laughed softly, the sound warm and genuine, and for the first time that night, you saw a flicker of hope in his eyes.
As the stars continued to shine above, you leaned into him, your head resting on his shoulder. In that moment, the chaos of the world seemed to fade away, leaving only the quiet, undeniable connection between you and Luke Castellan.
The silence stretched between you, heavy with unspoken words. Lukeâs thumb brushed lightly over your knuckles, his touch sending a warmth through you that the cool night couldnât chase away.
âI donât deserve this. âhe murmured again, his voice thick with emotion. âI donât deserve you.
You turned to face him fully, your free hand reaching up to gently cup his cheek. His skin was warm under your touch, his blue eyes wide and searching. âStop saying that. âyou whispered. âYou deserve so much more than you think.
For a moment, Luke just looked at you, his expression vulnerable in a way you rarely saw. Then, as if pulled by some unseen force, he leaned closer. His forehead rested against yours, and his breath mingled with yours in the cool night air.
âTell me to stop. âhe said softly, his lips just a whisper away from yours.
âI wonât. âyou replied, your voice steady, your heart pounding.
And then his lips were on yours. The kiss was gentle at first, hesitant, as if he was afraid you might pull away. But when you didnât, he deepened it, his hand coming up to cradle the back of your head. It was a kiss filled with everything he couldnât put into wordsâgratitude, longing, and a quiet, unshakable love.
When you finally pulled apart, you stayed close, your noses brushing. Luke smiled, small and genuine, the kind of smile he only ever showed you.
âMaybe the stars were watching after all. âhe said, his voice light with a hint of awe.
You laughed softly, resting your forehead against his. âThen let them watch.
The world around you seemed to fade away again, leaving only the two of you beneath the endless sky, hearts finally beating in sync.

What is it that people say?
Love is a fickle thing?
Love was not fickle. It was torturous in all the right ways and the wrong ways. Luke has fallen victim to love, under its binding curse for so long now. He doesnât know if he can keep up the act of being your fake boyfriend. Itâs worse than just being your friend, because now he can hold your hand, but he knows, he knows deep in his heartâyou wonât be his.
Youâre best friends. Nothing more, nothing less
Even if his heart ached for more.
At first thought, he believed he was in love with Nancy Thompson. A sophomore in his freshman English class. Nancy sat on the opposite side of the room: the corner desk. She was justâŚso cool and collected.
Heâd rave about how Nancy was the love of his life to you and how the light hit her just right or when she have this little quirk while thinking like the stupid teenage boy he was.
Luke asked Nancy to homecoming and was rejected. He wasnât as butt hurt as he thought heâd beâespecially not with you around to cheer him up.
He hadnât noticed until the night of homecoming how pretty you looked. Your dress was nothing short of perfect for you and the way your eyes shined in the cheap school lighting. He was lucky to have a best friend like you.
It was sophomore year when Luke realized, he was staring at you his whole freshman year. You were right in his line of vision: just before that corner desk. Why he thought he liked Nancy? He had no idea.
But, you were his bestfriend sinceâŚforever.
And just like ever cheesy Hallmark movie and horrible limited TV series, he kept quiet. Content with being your buddy old pal and admiring the little things you do and aiding in your troubles. As. A. Friend.
Luke thought it would go away when he first realized his feelings. He thought it would go away a few months later. He thought it would go away when he had his first kiss with someone else. He even (foolishly) thought it would go away when you and him started college.
It didnât.
This warm feeling in his chest never went away. It tortured him like the electric chair would shock him everytime you were near: reminding him what he couldnât have, what he could ruin if he confessed.
The gods mustâve hated his guts, or found his suffering amusing. What was he thinking? Suggesting he be your fake boyfriend?
He was a fool.
He had accepted that long ago.
But, he made a bigger fool of himself tonight than he ever did before.
âExams are over!â Clarisse whooped as she got in the backseat of Lukeâs car.
âTime to drink the night away!â You grinned, slipping into the passenger seat.
Luke gave you a pointed look when he saw the stolen shot bottles, courtesy of Chrisâ sticky hands.âCâmon Lukey-poo! A little pre-game didnât kill anyone.â
âYou are so wrong about that.â
âYou are not drinking those right now.â Luke spoke sternly. He was stuck with being DD tonightâthough he could hold his alcohol better than his friends. âIâm not dealing with your drunk asses before we get to the club.â
âYouâre no fun!â
âSomeoneâs being responsible.â
âLeave him be.â You gave him an apologetic smile and cranked up the radio. Luke mustered up the courage to place his hands over yoursâ
âto keep up the fake relationship narrative. Yup. Mhm.
Besides you didnât push him away.
The club was more crowded than usual, but that was expected. Every college student and their mother was there tonight. The floors were sticky. It smelt of BO and musk. The perfect night to wash away stress and worries. And there was no way of telling what time it was without your phone.
Luke left you for a moment to get another drink for himself and for you? Water. You were a lightweight, there was no denying it. He came back to find you with your arms wrapped around some dude.
He wasnât jealous. He wasnât. He swears.
He was more concerned with you being drunk and taken advantage of. Which is why he handled it so cool-headed and nonchalant of him.
âBack off.â Luke wrapped an arm around your waist. His temper boiling beneath the seams.
âWoah, man!â The guy held his hands up in mock surrender. âDidnât know she was your girlââ
He missed the last part guiding you away. âLukey!â You exclaimed in a pout, poking at his cheek. Your cheeks pink from the alcohol. âAre you mad? I can see youâre mad. You are mad!â
âIâm not.â
âYou are! Weâre just friends in my Calc class!â
âIâm not madâI justâŚâ Luke looked for an excuse. âLetâs dance.â He nodded and grabbed your hands, pulling you to the dance floor.
âOkay!â You happily obliged, forgetting about the incident.
Maybe it was the alcohol stirring something in Lukeâs veins. He had been dancing on the sticky club floor for more than an hour, but he couldnât bring himself to stop: even when his feet ached, even when the smell of sweat got to muchâyour smile was worth it.
Youâd make him twirl, dip and hold you as the music changed. Gods, did it feel nice to have you in his arms for this longâhis heart ached more and more as the night went on.
Soon enough, you trudged your tired body and aching legs to a cushioned arm chair in the corner of the club. âYou okay?â Luke asked, sitting on the coffee table in front of you. He flagged down a waiter for two glasses of water
âYeah, my feet are killing me.â Your eyes wandered over him, his outfit for tonight. A short sleeved black button up and khaki wrangler pants. It was a good look on him. He lookedâŚgood.
Luke wrote that off as a drunken thought when he heard you mutter about how âgoodâ he looked: ignoring the burning in his cheeks and ears.
âYâknowâŚâ Your voice slurred.
Luke shut off his phone after quickly checking where Clarisse and Chris were. âWe could break up nowâŚâ
His heart dropped.
âWhat?â He croaked.
Had he been to enveloped in playing pretend for you? He knew this day would come, but why now? Why after he introduced you to his mother again? Why after he saw you experience life with your own feelings forward instead of your parents? Why now?
âWe should break up now.â You reaffirmed and looked at him. Maybe itâs the alcohol talking. âThe guy from my Calc class is kinda cuteâand your chick magnet will restore to its glory.â
Itâs stupid heâs upset at this arrangement ending.
Itâs stupid that he wants to cry.
You raise your eyebrows in surprise seeing your best friend so quiet and the upset furrow in his eyebrow. Isnât he happy?
Luke stormed out of the club before he can do anything brash or cry.
You sober up quickly and chase him outside. Luke is walking to his car. âHey! What the hell is this about?â You asked confused.
âNothingâIâm going home. Tired.â He doesnât even look at you.
âAre you mad? Over me ending this? You said it yourself I was dampening your chick magnet.â Anger bubbled up in your chest. You donât know why. Maybe the alcohol is still talking.
Luke doesnât answer.
âSeriouslyâŚthis fake relationship didnât really matter much to you.ââ Gods, you were being such an asshole.
âIt mattered to me!â Luke shouted. Years of holding back his feelings finally came spilling out as if a volcano erupted. âIt mattered to me.â
He turned to you. Your heart broke seeing the emotions on his face: heartbreak, agony, shame. âYouâre soâgodsâŚI have known you for so long and I never knew you could be this dense until now.â He dryly laughed.
âWhaâŚâ
âIt mattered to me because I love you. Iâve been in love with you since highschoolâand Iâm such a goddamn lovesick idiot that I couldnât get over you.â He explained, avoiding your eyes.
Youâre silent, shocked at the confession. You sober up completely.
âThis fake relationshipâI accepted becauseâŚyes, I did want to fuck with your parents and help you live your life without them looking over your head, but I knew it was the closest thing I can get to being yours.â
Luke feels like a fool.
Shouting his pent up confession for all of Rowan Ave. to hear.
Way to go on not ruining your and his friendship. Luke did great at maintaining that.
âLukeâŚâ You reached out to comfort him when Chris and Clarisse stumble out of the club, drunk.
âHoly shitâthat last shot got me going.â Chris laughed as he leaned on Clarisse. You hesitate to help them, still stuck on Lukeâs confession. You couldnât process it when you still sobering.
Ultimately, you help them back into Lukeâs car.
No words are shared between you two. The car is almost silent, save for the giggles and drunken words of Chris and Clarisse.
âIt mattered to me.â Echoed over and over in your head. Your heartbeat quickened. GodsâŚyou were the fool.

finished writing ch. 5, hereâs a sneak peek. thank you for being so patient with waiting! i just need to edit and hopefully get it published soon.
Ik there is so many grammatical and pacing errors , bear with me!
Stop this is so cuteeâ historical au is on my mind rn
Can you do an historical fiction Au kinda like Brigerton or Reign about Luke Castellan tying or undoing your corset with tension since heâs not really supposed to be there
-if you decide you wanna do it I hope you enjoy the prompt have a nice day
just twist it, thatâs it. tie the knot and youâre finished. thatâs it. as simple as that.
so why the hell arenât your fingers doing the same thing as your brain demands? youâd tied a million knots in your life.
whether it was your shoes, or childrenâs shoes, your friendâs corsets, ties, ropes, and far more. but why did you always struggle with your own corsets?
with a huff, you release both of your hands and drop them to your sides frustratedly. you glance in the mirror, gaze following the falling strings but ultimately ending on a figure in your doorway.
you jump and turn your body, clutching a hand to your chest just where your breasts threaten to pool out entirely.
âneed help?â
you glare at luke. while on any other occasion you may have been delighted at the sight of him, tonight was not one of those occasions.
tonight, you would dance and dine with the continents wealthiest men to search for a suitable husband. your secret lover was not one of those men. in fact, he hadnât even came from this continent. he was born elsewhere.
whether he was or not, he was not eligible to be tied to your family according to your parents.
âyou cannot be here.â you drop your hand as he walks towards you.
âI know.â luke smiles and grabs onto the discarded strings of your corset. âI thought youâd have learned after I taught you to tie.â
you cross your arms over your chest. âI canât see what Iâm tying. itâs not as easy as it appears.â
âah. excuses.â
âyouâre not supposed to be here. if my father finds you standing with me while I am in this state he will have your head on a stick.â
âIâve seen you in less. he wouldnât like that, would he?â
you scowl and remain silent as lukeâs fingers work to finish off the last few laces.
he decides to fill the gap of silence since you are choosing not to. âyour door is locked. your father is downstairs negotiating with a man in a suit.â
âhe could come up at any moment. or nephile will! sheâll report you back instantly!â
âIâll bribe her.â
âluke,â you warn. âyou will not bribe my maid.â
âof course not.â with a last tug of the ends of the strings, luke ties off the end in a knot, and letting his grand finale be a kiss upon your bare shoulder. âdo you have more to dress?â
you nod and point to the thin remaining dress that covers the corset. itâs a crimson color, perfectly complimenting your hair in the way luke admires. it was cut low along the neckline, with flowing skirts you knew would be a pain to carry and walk in.
luke takes the dress into his hands, unzipping the back and ushering you to slip into it. with his simple accommodations, itâs as easy as pie to put on. once comfortable, he zips the back up, holding your hair to save it from the wrath of getting caught within the zipper.
âturn around for me.â
with obedience, you turn, smoothing out the front of your dress subconsciously. lukeâs hands place on your upper arms where the sleeves had not reached.
âyou look magnificent. like a goddess. itâs a shame I will not be taking this off as well.â
âitâs not too much?â you reach for your necklace on the vanity, unclipping it and tying it around your neck, letting it fall between your breasts.
âno. youâll have success tonight.â
âI do not want success. only for this night to end.â
âI know.â the circumstances were unfortunate for the both of you. luke brushes a strand of hair from your face before cupping your jaw, his other hand slivering around your waist.
you reach up on tippy-toes and press a swift kiss to his lips. âyou have to leave.â
âI know.â by your jaw, luke pulls your mouth back to his for a longer, lingering kiss. itâs far less innocent that the first, but it equally has you forgetting your worries as your brain goes fuzzy.
you fist his shirt within your hands to keep your knees from giving out beneath you. luke swipes his tongue over your bottom lip, asking silently for access inside the warm hollow of your mouth.
youâd say yes under any other situationâ but you knew the moment his tongue was down your throat youâd never make it downstairs.
so you pull away with a rose blush and a shake of your head. âcome back tonight. at midnight. my mother never lets parties last longer than that.â
âI will wait.â luke kisses each of your heated cheeks. âgood luck.â
youâd need it if you were to last three hours with wetted undergarments.
â I enjoyed this prompt a great amount thank you anon <33

The seeds of doubt sprouted: grasping at his mind, tangling itself through his hope. The Fates whispered in his ears, step after step. It was cold and dark. He never felt more alone.
Where is she?
Where is she now?
Orpheus gripped his guitar tighter. Every step he made felt like he was getting further and further from the surface. He chastised himself at every turn.
Why would he let me win?
Why would he let her go?
Why am I to think that he wouldnât deceive me just to make me leave alone?
Where is she?
Where is she now?
Eurydiceâs words fell on deaf ears. She was desperate to let Orpheus know she was here. Right behind him. Sheâd always been. She kept staring at the back of his head. It brought immense comfort as they walked and walked out of the Underworld.
They were so close. Eurydice could taste the surface, until she saw the contours of his face and his warm eyes filled with affection. A soft gasp fell from her lips.
âItâs you.â Relief filled his heavy heart when Orpheus saw her. His love. What had he done?
âItâs me.â She committed his face to memory, the warmth of his gaze comforting her. âOrpheusââ Helplessly she reached out, hoping to embrace her love once more. Instead of the warmth she wanted, cold hands grasped her arms, dragging her back to the Underworld.
âEurydice.â His voice cracked. Frozen, staring at the place where she was.
Thus ended the tragedy of Orpheus and Eurydice. Hermes told tales to entertain Olympus, but the gods and goddesses were growing tired of the same old tales: the same old tragedies. They craved something new.
Hermes gave a small smile and shook his head to the stars. He gave them what they wanted as a new tale formed in his head. It was a sad tale, but he was going to tell it anyway, even if it involved his own son.
Luke Castellan was a hungry young boy. A runaway from everywhere heâd been. He was no stranger to the world. No stranger to the wind.
The daughter of Apollo was a poor girl, but she had a gift to give. She could make you see how the world could be. In spite of the way that it is.
Yet, the son of Hermes had seen how the world was. When he fell, he fell in spite of himselfâŚ
In love with the daughter of Apollo.
It was the height of spring when Luke and you fell in love. He was scorned and pitied after failing his quest. Feelings of abandonment, fury and betrayal simmered below his lighthearted jokes and his composed smiles. He learned he could only fend for himself. To hell with the rest.
Until he met you, your sole being made him feel alive and when he fellâhe fell hard. He was enamored your bright smile and optimistic personality. Youâd caress his hair gently while singing a small tune. He learned to lean on your shoulder when nightmares passed, hoping your light was enough to shine through the darkness that overtook his head, plagued his sleep.
It wasnât enough.
You awoke to the sound of shuffling. Blinking the sleep from your eyes, Luke was sitting on the edge of his bunk. His shoulders tensed as he held his head in his hands. âLukeâŚ?â Your voice hoarse.
He turned his head towards you. An apologetic smile graced his lips. âHeyâŚâ His voice low, raspy from underuse. He stretched over to give you a kiss on the forehead, keeping you from sitting up.
âYou okay?â Your arms wrapped around him. He melted, burying his head in your neck, hiding his turmoil.
âMhm.â And for a night, your light clouded the promises the deep voice in his dreams offered. It was a temporary distraction, one that wouldnât last longâone he couldnât keep relying on.
You shouldâve known. Blinded by your ignorance and his empty reassuring words of his health, Luke disappeared from camp. Hit with the reality, you did everything in your power to find him.
But, he did not want to be found. Not by you. He knew if he saw you again, your eyes, your smileâyour light would melt his purpose, his mission, leaving him putty in your arms (he missed it.)
Your original camp songs disappeared from the nightly bonfires. Your light faded ever so slightly. Regret, worry and guilt simmering beneath your smiles.
You swore youâd catch glimpses of his curls or his broad frame when you were in the city. You were chasing a ghostâholding onto the love you had for him. The restless nights plagued you, but instead of Kronosâ words, music notes coaxed you to stay up and write.
The sheets of music hidden beneath your bunk. The song for your and Lukeâs hearts only. You were holding onto something you shouldâve let go.
But, like the tragedy tale of Orpheus and Eurydice you met once again, but not under joyous circumstances.
The Battle of Olympus was treacherous. You kept catching glimpse of Lukeâbut instead golden eyes replaced the ones filled with affection you used to know.
You saw how the world could be, no longer naive to the truth. Your siblings perished in the battle. Cabin Seven went from being the largest cabin to the third smallest in the span ofâgods knew how long. In spite of it all, you saw the beauty after it ended.
A bright light flashed. Exhausted from fighting hellhounds, empousas, telkhines, etc, you trudged your body to the Hall of Gods. Bone collided with the marble floor.
After all these years, you saw your love. Without the golden eyes or scorned look in his face, albeit bleeding, it was him. Your eyes filled with relief and warmth when you saw him, finally.
A soft gasp fell from his lips. He expected hatred, frustrationâbut found nothing but affection from you.
âItâs you.â You whispered, cupping his face with your battle-worn hands.
Luke leaned in, knowing it was the last time he would feel your touch, your light, your love. He committed your face to memory, so that when he goesâhe goes remembering your face forever.
âItâs me.â He reassured, turning his head to kiss the palm of your hand.
So many words were on the tip of your tongue, but they kept themselves from forming properly. All you could do was stare at Luke, at last, after so long. Tears blurred your vision. Luke reached up to caressed your cheeks. Remembering your face with his eyes wasnât enough.
âMy love.â His voice so soft, gentle like he was admiring your light again: getting lost in your songs, melting in your arms and loving like the Underworld was shining.
Luke knew you had a lot to say. Words laced with frustration, concern, confusion, but all meant to be said with love.
âLuke.â You whispered as if your heart wasnât breaking into a million pieces. Communicating in a silent stare, he felt your words, taking them to heart.
You couldnât leave him with that and so you hummed.
The familiar notes that plagued your nights emitted from your lips. Lukeâs hand dropped form your face with a thud. He shut his eyes and smiled as he listened. And for a moment, just for a moment, it felt like you and him were back at Camp. His head in your lap as you caressed his hair. The sounds of the forest accompanying your singing.
His breath stilled. The cold hands of the Fates grabbed him after you said your goodbyes, but his dead body held your warmth, your light. He remembered your face long after he made it to River Styx.
And you?
You sang your private song again for the world to hear. To keep him alive and you were going to sing it again with your love so full for the runaway.
Thus ended the tragedy of the son of Hermes and the daughter of Apollo. The gods were throughly entertained asking to hear it again and again. Until, it was an old song and they craved something new.
Hermes shook his head up to the stars. Heart stricken with grief and sympathy. It was a sad tale. A tragedy. And he was going to tell it again. The gods and goddesses of Olympus knew how it ended, but they were going to listen again and again as if it might turn out this time.
See, the daughter of Apollo was a poor girl, but she had a gift to give. She could make you see how the world could be. In spite of the way it is.
And the son of Hermes was a hungry young boy. A runaway from everywhere heâd been. He was no stranger to the world. No stranger to the wind.
Yet, the son of Hermes had seen how the world was. When he fell, he fell in spite of himselfâŚ
In love with the daughter of Apollo.
It was the height of spring when Luke and you fell in love.

Hey guysâŚIâve been thinking of re-writing FFY for a bit. The way Iâve went with the fake dating troupe is kind of weird and I think thereâs not enough strong plot points in my story. Overall, itâs not my best work. But if I do a complete factory reset, chapters would take longer to upload + I would changes a lot of things.
ANY FEEDBACK would help me, specifically about FFY. I would love to become a better writer and do this series justice.
is there a part 5 of FFY??? if so please #needthat so badđđđđ PLEASE you can take my firstborn child in exchange
schoolâs been kicking my ass, but iâm going to start writing this chapter soon. iâm glad you guys are still sticking around!!

When Luke introduced you to just a sliver of what actual freedom, you yearned for more.
Freedom wasnât running from the cops and partying every night. Freedom wasnât skipping class just for the fun of it. Freedom wasnât doing batshit crazy things under the excuse of âfree willâ.
Freedom was, to you, having funâbeing a normal young adult without worrying about your parentsâ opinion.
Between the last month and a half of classes, Luke made it his personal mission to let you fully experience your freedom. Though it was proving to be difficult.
Everytime you did something that would cause your parents to turn their faces away in clear disappointment, a nagging feeling pulled at the back of your mind.
For example, this weekend Luke, you and a couple of others went out to a house party. You were dancing with Luke when you felt guilt linger at the back of your mind. To party so carelessly knowing your parents would be disappointedâpart of you wanted to forget their opinions and judgement. The other part of you wanted to tone it down at the party; lessen their disappointment.
It was like the devil and angel permanently moved to your shoulders to torment you.
Which is why you were about to do this.
Was it stupid? Yes. Will you get hurt? 100% Did you trust Luke enough? Somewhat.
âI want you to decide what you want to doânot for the sake of your parents or me or our friends. Make this choice because itâs what you want.â Luke called you late, one night. His voice firm, unwavering.
You wanted this.
Alcohol buzzed in your veins; temporarily silencing the devil and angel. The guilt that crept up on you was gone. You werenât so far gone you couldnât tell from left and right, but just enough to not feel guilty about anything.
Again. Was it stupid? Yes.
Will you get hurt? Maybe.
Did you trust Luke? Without a doubt.
Chris, Clarisse, Silena, Luke and you, the usual group, were kicked out of study hall, for disturbance of peace or whatever. Classes were canceled due to AC going down and you were going to study? This mustâve been a sign from the universe. Which led the group to a lake.
Now this was âpublic disturbanceâ
Tucked beneath the dense forest on the outskirts of campus, laid a cool lake. With the coming of summer sun, this had been a crucial hangout spot.
Would your parents freak about you jumping into a lake with gross bacteria and possible diseases? Absolutely.
Your childhood consisted of more âinsideâ activities. Rather than playing outside with your friends, scrapping knees, and suchâyou had the read a book on the couch as the clock ticks drove you insane.
Silena and you stood on the edge of a decently high ledge. Luke was swimming below. He had already tested the depth of the water. Chrisâ speaker lit up in different colors as it played the song. His arm around Clarisse as he held a beer.
âReady?â Silena turned to you. Her cheeks pink due to alcohol consumption.
âReady.â You squeezed her hand.
The beat dropped. Silena and you jumped. The cold water engulfing you. The rush felt terribly addicting to you, sobering you up all too quickly. Yet the giddiness of it all provided a different high.
You broke through the surface and arms wrapped around your waist to keep you afloat. You werenât the strongest swimmer. A laugh erupted from the depths of your soul as Luke wrapping an arm around his neck. His smile matching yours. The sun beared down on the lake, glittering the waterâs surface.
Since when did he smile like that? Like you were the only person in the world. Like you were the brightest star in the sky.
Clarisseâs shouts of protest pull you out of your head. Chris is carrying her bridal style, a shit eating grin on his face as he jumps in with her. The afternoon was wasted away at the lake, sunbathing, swimming and drinking.
Your head buzzing with dopamine as you walked to Chrisâ car. Luke insisted you wore his dry t-shirt. It was baggy and your wet bathing suit would affect it less. He insisted and made the lame excuse of it being boyfriend material 101.
His t-shirt smelled like him. A mix of sandalwood and vanilla, but you could hardly think about it when the windows were down, blasting music. The perfect summer vibes. Your heart beating fast due to the excitement and not anything else.
You hadnât noticed at the time, but alcohol did more than just silence the angel and devil.
Whatever you had that afternoon, the freedom mixed with the alcohol and pure, raw happiness, you wanted to experience more of it. A time where you can forget about your parentsâ and aunts and uncles future judgmental stares and rude comments.
âYâknow, I appreciate you toughing this out with me.â You spoke up one night.
Luke took you out to help you experience more of your newfound freedom. Which actually was just stargazing on the roof of his car.
WellâŚyou supposed it worked. You didnât care for your familyâs opinion at the moment, even though you knew they chastise you for hanging out with the âbad influenceâ.
âIâm still in it for the trip, sweetheart.â Luke teased. His eyes darting from each star in the sky to your face. You were oblivious to his gaze, focused on the constellations above.
âI mean it. This fake dating must be a huge strike to your charming lady killer aura.â You sat up on your elbows, speaking in a joking tone. You hardly noticed he was looking at you already.
âYeah, puts a real damper to my chick magnet having a fake girlfriend.â Luke snorted and sat up.
âYouâll be free soon enough.â You rolled your eyes.
A comfortable silence settles over the two of you. Youâve been best friends since freshman year. It was only natural this would happen and besides there is no feelings attached. A little revenge and you still keep your friendship. A damn good deal if you every had one.
This was something you wanted to do. You had to do. To show your parents you wonât take their crap, to show they youâre grown up.
You shout with enthusiasm. Your body sticking out of Lukeâs sun roof. The wind catching in your hair as the warm yellow lights of the tunnel illuminated the space. You felt free and unrestricted and awfully happy.
The best feeling in the world.
âI want a turn after!â Luke shouted, knowing the wind was too loud for you to hear.
âNo way!â You did hear him.
Windows were down, blasting music.
âCâmonâŚâ He pinched your leg.
âStop!â You squealed.
You loved the feelings that swarmed in your heart. Only for it to end when red and blue lights and loud sirens were heard. Luke and you knew the consequences of the recklessness, but as you pulled over, you couldnât help but share a couple of laughsâlike teenage girls caught doing something bad.
Youâre quite happy youâre in this with your best friend and no one else.
Making new memories with no romantic feelings attached.
It was the best. The best.

I. TIME MANAGEMENT & SUPPORT
You knew dating the president of a fraternity would render him busy, most of the time. More often than not youâd get texts of excuses your boyfriend, Nate McCormick, explaining why he couldnât make it to events and shows you planned.
It was a given and you didnât want to blame Nate for his lack of presence. Being a fraternity president was time consuming with fundraisers and parties andâŚother things. You werenât too involved in Greek life.
Even the off chance Nate did show up, he never showed out. Sure, heâs a little tired from planning events and he tells you heâs proud, but he never stays for long, not really caring.
It was like your things were a bother to him, but when you didnât show up to one frat eventâheâd get all pissy.
Luke was on speed dial for this exact reason.
For example, the students in the business course had a mock competition with each other to prepare for future competitions. Your group earned third place amongst twenty-five other groups.
The professors held an award ceremony with trophies and certificates. Nate met you after the ceremony and gave you a side hug.
âHey, babyâyou did good! Itâs good.â He didnât get the event to well. A call pulled him away, eventually causing him to leave the event entirely. He seemed almost happy.
You watched his shoulders sag in relief as he walked away with some quick excuse. You thought him whisper into his phone âperfect timing, dude.â
And now, you stood alone; staring at your boyfriendâs text.
Loml<3
Had to go, some fuckwads fucked everything up.
3m ago
Busy.
Always goddamn busy when your things came up.
You werenât alone for long, thankfully, when Luke walked over; away from his conversation with Silena and Clarisse (it was like he was waiting for the perfect moment to talk to you).
You invited Luke to the ceremony and he showed out (at least someone did). He presented you a small bouquet for your achievement despite his protests on your group receiving third instead of first.
âListen!â Luke held up a red solo cup during the after party. No one listened, too busy dancing and getting drunks from their accomplishments.
âWhat are you doing?â You hid a laugh behind your hand, trying to get him to back down from his toast.
âNo, noâI must!â Luke smirked. Your small group of friends paying attention. âYou shouldâve won first and you will win first at nationals! I, for one, am very proud!â
His chocolate brown curls bounced back as he finished off whatever was swirling in the red solo cup. Clarisse, Silena, Chris and you raise your cups and copied his movements.
A small blush rose to your neck and cheeks (because of the alcohol, mhm). You smiled at Luke. âWe will win first and Iâll dedicate the win to you.â You joked.
âYou better!â Luke ruffled your hair.
Ding!
Loml<3
Otw home, goodnight baby
See you tomorrow, champ
Now
You ignored the texts as you celebrated with Lukeâs arm wrapped around your shoulder, singing âParty Rock Anthemâ by LMFAO with Clarisse and Silena, and celebrating a mock completion. You didnât want support later, it was better in the moment.
II. ADVANTAGE
âListen, babyâthis doesnât concern. Itâsâitâs frat stuff.â Nate gave you a small smile and squeezed your thigh under the table. The guy was engrossed in a conversation with his friends. It was like he was on a date with his friends.
You wouldnât be surprised.
âJust sit there and look pretty, alright?â
That hit an already tight nerve.
You seeâwhen Nate invited you out to dinner, you idiotically thought that it would just be you and him.
Yâknow, to make up for the times heâs bailed out of your school eventsâor left you stranded at dinner dates (which meant you had to pay for both of your dinners). But, hey! You didnât mind Nateâs friends joining you for dinner.
Nope. Not at all.
And all this shit kept building and building up. Honestly, when was he ever going to really make it up to you.
You picked at the salad he ordered youâwhen everything blew up. His hand inched higher and higher on your thigh, beneath your denim skirt. The nerve of him.
Nate and his friends were startled when you stood up, slamming your utensils on the table and gave them a curt excuse to use the bathroom.
So, here you were, leaning against the black marble sink, calling Luke to bail you out of here. He was on speed dial. The lavender incense soothed your frustration.
âHey, whatâs up?â He picked up after two rings. His voice slightly raspy, but it was smooth like a vinyl record.
âAre you busy?â
âKindaâIâm out with Chris and the Stoll brothers right now.â
âOkay then, nevermindââ
âNoâno! Do you need something? What is it?â
âItâs fine, I can call Clarisse insteadââ
âY/N. Are you okay?â
You took a deep breath. It felt like too much to ask for him to come pick you up when he was hanging out with friends.
âAre you okay?â You paused, weighing your decisions silently. Go back to Nate with him getting handsy in front of his friends or go back to your dorm and sleep in comfortable clothes. The latter felt like the better option.
âCan you come pick me up? I do not want to be here right now.â
âYeahâyeah, Iâll be there soon.â
The line disconnects and you send Luke your location. Nate was too preoccupied with his friends to notice you leaving the restaurant, not so discreetly (you ran into a waiter). Yet, you somehow made it to Lukeâs car.
âAre you okay?â He asked. His eyebrows knit with concern as his fingers drum against the steering wheel.
âJust driveâdrive, drive!â
Luke almost hit another car listening to your urgent commands. The honking horns from the car behind you stopped eventually, after the driver flipped you off and shouted a spew of curse words. Luke and you look at each other. A pause of silence, before you burst out in giggles and laughs.
âIcecream?â
âIcecream.â
Nate<3
Venmo me $10 for the salad
10:29 pm
Absolutely fucking not.
III. JEALOUSY
So, your boyfriend apparently did have eyes. Not for the effort you put into your appearance or your appreciation for him, but in other men.
Not in a romantic way, but in a jealous way.
Yeah, yeah.
He hardly paid attention to you and even if he didâhe always wanted something. Sex, money, the list goes on and on. Youâre sure, as of late, he could give a ratâs ass where youâve been.
Yet, when Nate showed up, unannounced, while you were having a movie night with the girls and Luke (he begged to do face masks with everyone) jealousy was the most prominent thing on his face and not those hideous eyebrows.
You remembered predicting his thoughts. âWhy is she hanging out with another guy?â âBastard wants my girl?â âIâm the only guy she needs.â
So, this is how you found yourself in an off-campus gym with Silena because Nate had to prove he was better than your best friend.
Interrupting girls night.
Nate slipped on boxing gloves whilst Luke leaning against the ropes. Your boyfriend has never boxed before, but he could fight. Your cheeks pink with embarrassment. It was stupidâthis was stupid. You are not doing anything romantic with Luke.
Nate shouldâve tried to give more a shit in the relationship if he didnât want you hanging out with your best friend all the time.
âBaby, can you do this?â Nate pouted and displayed the velcro strap on his boxer.
You sucked it up and strapped the Velcro strip. Nate looked at you like he was expecting something else. A good luck kiss.
With the shit heâs pulling. No.
âHis fragile masculinity is bruised.â Silena commented quietly, hiding a giggle behind her hand.
âItâs stupid.â You mumbled irritated. Silena and you found some vacant chairs to sit in. âHe has to drag me here when he knows I have plans. Iâm sorry we canât go to the flea market nowââ
âItâs okay.â Silena reassured quickly. âIâve been waiting for your boyfriend to realize heâs an idiot.â
(Spoiler alert. He will never)
Nate was really insistent on no head gear. It had something to do with messing up his hair. A gym employee was refereeing the match. He blew the small silver whistle for it to start.
Nate spewing phrases similar to âyou think you can just take my girl?â or âshe wants me, bro.â Shit like that. Silena watch you hide behind your purse in embarrassment, because what the fuck?!
Neither guys wanted to throw the first punch, that was until Luke mentioned where his gloves were positioned.
âHey man, you really should keep your arms up near your head.â A helpful tip.
Thenâthen Nate threw the first punch.
âYou keep your arms up!â Nate mocked in a baby voice.
It was sloppy, had no form, and swung in anger. You observed as Luke dodged it with ease; isolating his torso in a way that it felt like a dance.
Compared to Luke, Nate kept his hands guarding his chest. Heâs shifting weight foot to foot, breathing like a bull who saw red. Your boyfriend threw another punch, aiming for Lukeâs face. Luke responded with protecting his faceâtaking the brute of the attack on his forearms.
Lukeâs body moved fluidly like water when he retailed with his own punch. He isnât swinging recklessly like Nate did. His movements are processed. Outputting a certain ton of his strength.
The tips of your ears heat up, turning pink underneath your hair. Youâll admit, your eyes are following Luke the whole time.
Since when did Luke box?
Luke is steady on his feet, keeping a rhythm with his punches. Nate could barely block them, getting hit a few times. You watch his torso shift to dodge and advance. The black compression shirt Luke wore was doing thingsâlike the fabric was made to twist with his body.
Youâre taken out of your stupor as you watch the bright red boxing glove collide with Nateâs cheek. Your boyfriend was thrown off his balance and landed on his ass. You winced knowing it stung despite the padding. The whistle blew, calling quits to the the match. Luke won.
âNo harm, no foul. You okay?â Luke asked, silently giving the âI told you soâ look about protecting his head. The curly haired boxer took off a glove to offer a hand an help Nate up.
Nate didnât take it. In a millisecond, you watched your boyfriend throw his whole body weight into the punch.
The punch colliding with his face, hitting Lukeâs eye, nose and cheek at the same time.
âWhat the fuck, Nate!?â You shouted in disbelief, standing up to enter the ring.
The employee blowed his whistle again, pointing Nate towards the doors. âBitch.â Nate spat and you pushed him. He was out of his mind, but he looked at you like you were the crazy one.
âWhat the hell, babe!?â
âThe fight was over. That was uncalled for!â You told your boyfriend firmly as he was getting pulled out of the ring and kicked out.
âWhy are you defending him?â Nate scoffed and held onto the ropes just to argue. âI got hit too! I got hit and youâre defending this dickwad?â
âYou hit him when he was trying to help you!â You argued and left the ring to make him see his wrongful actions.
âHe mocked meâhurt my face and you only care for him.â Nate accused. âWhat? Are you sucking his dick?â
The fact he mentioned something so lewd and outlandish had steam blowing out of your ears. âCool off, Nate. Control that fucking temper.â You demanded. âYou know I would never cheat.â
âYouâre with him all the time, babe! I wouldnât be surprised.â He was actively being pushed out by employees. âIâm your boyfriend! Iâm your fucking boyfriend!â
âSure, donât act like it.â You grumbled.
The bell on the door rung. Nate was kicked out. You swiveled on your heels and found Luke nursing a bloody nose. Silena handed him her some paper towels.
Apologies were on the tip of your tongue waiting to come out. Luke watched your face go from frustration to guilt. âDonât worry.â Luke reassured with a grin. There was blood in his teeth. His left eye was tearing up due to the contact of the boxing glove.
âLuke, that wasnât right for Nate to do.â You mumbled and crossed your arms.
âNo.â You could hear the âbutâ in his tone. âBut, it was partly my fault. I was riling him up.â
âBy telling him to protect his head?â
âYeah. Men like him hate being told what to do, but I was concerned for his safety. Honest!â
Silena deadpanned and grabbed her purse and yours. âGreen is not a good color on your boyfriend.â Silena mentioned and you sighed.
Luke grabbed your hand, squeezing it to get your attention. He still had that charming smile youâve grown to love. âBesides, he hit like a girl. He just got lucky and popped a blood vessel.â
IV. THE FINAL STRAW
Out of sight, out of mind.
The quote from Euphoria resonated with you well. It was ironic you were dating a Nate too.
Your boyfriend and you were playing hopscotch on the line of a messy breakup. Lately, arguments were the only thing happening when you saw him. You wanted him to apologize for the accusations he made. His ego too big for him to stoop down to that level.
So, the girls and Luke took you out partying to distract you from relationship troubles. Luke insisted and begged that you let him come because he had nothing to do. It was a lie.
He just liked hanging out with Silena, you, Clarisse and Thalia because of the vibes.
You could feel the bass of the music in your chest when you and the others walk up to the house. Pretty much, youâre thrown into dancing, drinking and games.
Nate is the furthest thing from your mind.
Itâs an Alpha Ki party, which meant no Nate tonight or at least thatâs what you thought.
You were dancing with Clarisse. The body heat in the room making a thin layer of sweat gloss over your skin. Alcohol buzzed in your veins. It made you feel good, but now you were thirsty.
You had a clear enough head to decided water for your next drink instead of your usual alcohol. âIâm going to get water!â You yelled at Clarisse over the loud music and wormed your way through the crowd.
Digging through the cooler, beneath the beer bottles, cans and chunks of ice, you found your treasure. Youâve never been more relieved to feel and drink cold water.
You took a break to drink your water before leaving the kitchen to join Clarisse again when you saw him.
He was in your sight, which meant he was in your mind.
The worse thing about it was he was shoving his tongue down another girlâs throat, grabbing her ass. What was he even doing at another frat party when he was supposed to be monitoring his own?
Angry, heartbreak and devastation consumed your beating heart. After everythingâŚeverythingâyou did for Nate. From being a supportive girlfriend to dressing up more for him to paying for his dinners to reassuring him about his frat events toâeverything, everything you did. All the one sided bullshit you did blew up.
Your body moved without a second thought. Hands moving to unscrew the water bottle cap and suddenly, Nate was soaked (you tried to avoid the girl as much as possible). His clothes wet. So weird, wow.
âYou bitch!â Nate exclaimed in irritation, shaking his hands of water droplets. He looked at you like you killed his mom.
You shook your head. He didnât get to be angryâhe cheated, not you. âYou are a cheating fuckwad, Nate!â Putting it into words he understood.
âYouâre paying for my clothes. You ruined them!â Nate stepped closer to you, pushing the girl he was making out with aside.
âStart paying for your own shit! Iâm not your mom, I was your girlfriendâ You threw the empty water bottle at him and stormed out of the party.
Your heart was being squeezed so tightly you couldnât breathe. Tears stinging your eyes, no doubt ruining your mascara.
Itâs stupid. You shouldnât be crying over your, now, ex-boyfriend. He treated you like shit.
You couldnât help it. You loved him. You had to of. You made excuses for the shitty things he did and never broke up with him. It hurt to see him kiss another girl. The icing on the cake.
He used you because thatâs what men like him do.
You barely recognize another pair of footsteps behind you, so angry with yourself for crying. Was it normal to cry over someone so shitty?
âHey. HeyâŚâ The familiar voice soothes you and soon your met with his eyes. Twinkling like the stars. His arms wrap around you, comforting you. Luke was always around when you needed it. Which made him the perfect boyfriend.
âI shouldâve known. I shouldâve known he would do that!â You reprimanded yourself. Words muffled in Lukeâs shoulder.
Luke frowned at that. Love can make someone do crazy things, including blinding oneâs faults. âGod, he was such a dick!â
âYeah, almost all the letters are in his last name.â Luke quipped and pulled back from the hug to wipe away your tears. âJust missing the âdâ, god, sex with him mustâve been horrible if he was missing the âdâ.â
You laughed through your blurry vision at his corny joke; his attempt to make you feel better. The whole cheating fiasco sobered you up and now, you noticed how close Luke was to you. âListen, heâs going to regret treating a beautiful girl like shit, okay?â Luke reassured.
Your heart beat a little faster. âYou think Iâm beautiful?â
âAlways, sweetheart. Every damn day.â Luke admitted sheepishly with a grin and kissed your forehead.
Your ear turned pink beneath your hair. Was it right? To be so close to your best friend, to think about him in that way when you had a break up minutes ago.
You stare at him, not saying anything. No words were desperately trying to claw its way out of her mouth. Then, your eyes slowly shift to his lips: pink, thin, kissable.
Itâs a bad idea, right?â
But, this is the most sober you have been all night. âYouâŚâ You knit your eyebrows, finding words to say. âYouâve always been there for me. Like nobody else, saved me countless of times for my exâŚâ
You want to cry, expressing this after the whole Nate situation. You cupped his cheeks with your hands. âYouâre so handsome andâandâŚI think Iâve been thinking this for a long time.â
âGod, how awful of me.â
Luke gave you a sympathetic look and put his hands on your wrists. He leaned over to press a soft kiss to your pulse point that caused even more pink to bloom across your cheeks. âI willâŚI will do everything McCormick couldnât do for you.â Luke promised, and tucked a piece of hair back.
âYou already have.â You whispered and pressed your lips to his. They were like magnets itching to connect. Lukeâs hands slid down to your hips, rubbing tiny circles into the bone. You hands pressed against his chest.
This, this was what a kiss was supposed to feel like. Nothing dull or quickâbut thought out with sparks flying everywhere.
âIâŚIâve liked you, for a reallyâreally long time.â Luke admitted blushing slightly. âI mean since the first day we met, Iâm sure.â
âI donât want you to think this is a rebound thing.â You mumbled and he kissed you sweetly, dispelling the thought right out of your head.
âI know itâs not. Youâre just finally realizing your feeling for me because Iâm so awesome.â Luke joked, but it made you waiver your doubts in an instance. âI promise you, sweetheart, Iâll be a better boyfriend than him.â
âYou already are. You already haveâŚâ You repeated and kissed him again. It was true, Luke had practically been your boyfriend on the side when dates with Nate werenât working out. He cheered you up, brought flowers to your event, and made you feel less guilty about the boxing match.
The two of you parted after a little bit. Foreheads resting on one another. âHow aboutâŚwe ditch this party, get the others and have another movie night?â Luke suggested.
âYou just want to do more face masks.â You accused jokingly.
âI do not!â You could feel hit grin, so close to your face. Luke wrapped a strong arm around your waist and guided you back to the party. He was going to retrieve your friends.
âDo too.â You retorted and pointed at his smile.
âOkay, maybe I do. Can we do them?â Luke pouted and faced you.
âFine.â
Lukeâs grin widened. He celebrated walking back inside to retrieve your friends. He wanted you to time him. A motivation thing, you guessed.
The timer stopped at ten minutes and fifty one seconds when he came out of your house with Clarisse, Silena and Thalia.

Youâve said it once and youâll say it again. Springtime is truly a lovely time of the year, especially late spring. It was a healthy reminder of the college year ending in a month and a half.
That, along with the flowers in full bloom and allergies at a minimum. Luke watched you enjoy the bright scenery racing by his car window. A sigh escaped his nose.
You were in your head. Luke could tell.
He wouldâve said something to cheer you up, anything stupid really, but his car was already coming to a stop. The engine sputtered.
âYouâll be okay. Weâll be okay.â Luke gently placed a hand on your knee. The incessant tapping you produced stopped. You figured he was slightly irritated with your nerves.
Cars were lined down the street. You could hear people talking in the backyard. Easter was a big holiday. Though a bunny planting eggs in the yards of homes was an absurd caricature to choose. Where did the bunny get the surplus of eggs? Dollar Tree.
Luke listened to you (which really meant he listened to your Aunt Shelley). He traded in his wife beater and button up for a sage green button up. The colors matched your white dress with patterned green flowers.
Sure, you hated coming back home at times, but you wouldnât use that as an excuse to not dress up for holidays.
âI know.â You spoke up finally and glanced at him. He could tell you didnât take his words to heart.
âBelieve me.â Luke emphasized with a squeeze of your knee. You nodded your head, internally thankful he decided to accompany you this Easter. âWeâll be okay.â
And it was okay, like Luke promised, at least it was.
âThatâs the boy youâre dating?â Your parents had pulled you inside the house. Shock and disappointment written all over your motherâs face. The subtle action of wrinkling her nose told you how displeased she was with this.
The Easter party was outside in the backyard. Your younger relatives were playing outside, running around Luke, begging him to join their games. Music was playing and your aunts and uncles were joking around.
It was a complete contrast to the inside of the house. Your mother had still upheld the rule of that quiet, peaceful environment. The ticking of the grandfather clock paired with the hum of the AC echoed throughout the house. It was unnerving how foreign the sounds of your home had become.
âHe is.â You swallowed your nerves and guilt to put on a mask of faux confidence. You switched from hugging your arms to crossing them. âHeâŚhe is sweet and kind and treats me right.â
âHe is the one who turned you into some sleaze!â She accused and pointed her wrinkly finger at you. Your father grunted in agreement, staring you down. âDo you not care about your future?â
Resisting the urge to roll your eyes, you take a deep breath. You werenât going to let your parents push you to be their âperfect little girlâ. You dropped your hands to your sides and stared at your momâs judging eyes.
All youâve done is care about your future, your life. It was the constant studying, the constant tutoring kids who didnât care. Just to make your college resume look like the perfect candidate for some top notch college. High school was so mundane and terrible and you tried to look on the bright side, tried to reason with your parentsâyour momâs, decisions.
âI told you to get rid of those friends of yours and now youâre dating the bad influence. The fly!â Your mom reminded you harshly. Always your and your friends' fault for turning out a certain way. Always. âYou never listen to me because of themâhim!â
Luke was starting to become concerned with how long your parents were keeping you from festivities. Your little sister and cousins have asked him to lift them up with just his arms so many times.
They were getting impatient, waiting for the Easter Egg Hunt to start. The sky has even taken itâs cue to start going to bed (as your little sister called it)
âHe is not a bad influence. He doesnât smoke and rarely drinks.â You defended with a firm tone. âLuke and my friends are not going to ruin my future because I want to have fun.â
âItâs that mindset thatâs going to get you homeless!â You left the conversation after that.
Judging stares and faux smiles were plastered on your older relatives as soon as you left the house, followed by your parents soon after. Aunt Shelley was a prominent figure, reveling in gossip and family drama.
Luke wrapped an arm around your waist and kissed your temple. A silent act of reassurance, that he was here. You watched as your cousins and little sister ran around the large backyard, collecting the plastic little eggs.
âLook!â Your little sister presented a shiny pink plastic egg. She smiled, proud of her find. The sun was beginning to set. A range of oranges, pinks and yellows complimented the clouds and the horizons. The lights in the backyard blinked on.
âThatâs really shiny. Whatâd you get?â You crouched down to your sisterâs height, entertaining her ego.
She opened it with a small âpopâ and inside was money. âIâm a dollar and twenty-five cents rich!â She exclaimed with a happy smile. Your sister proudly showed off her reward to Luke.
Your sister was the only reason you came back home anymore,
It wasnât until dinner was served that the whispers became prominent. Left and right as you sat and ate, you heard how different you were. How you back talked (back sassed in Aunt Shelleyâ words) your parents. How disobedient and ignorant youâve become and what they wouldâve done in this situation.
âHow could she talk back like that? My sister only cares for her future.â
âI wouldâve made her do online school.â
âMm, no bad influences. Smart man, Thomas.â
âWhen children are away from home too long, they forget who they are.â
God, couldnât they just mind their business?
âLetâs just go.â Luke suggested smoothly. His voice is like caramelized honey amongst the sea of scratchy voices. It made your stomach churn because it was the best thing he couldâve said to you all night (totally)
At this point, Luke could read you like a book. Since the food came out, youâve been in your head, thinking twice about this act of rebellion. Doubts seeding through your mind. He needed to pull you out.
And as much as you wanted to stay for your little sister, your need to get out of that backyard outweighed it.
The final stop of todayâs lovely excursion was the local lake. The sandy banks were warmed by the fading sun. Luke was determined to cheer you up.
Though he wasnât doing a good job. He left you at the lake alone.
It was a little bit before he showed up again with a flower bouquet, take out and his jacket. âWhat good fake boyfriend would I be if I didnât try to cheer you up?â
âYou left me for twenty minutes.â You rolled your eyes. He sat down next to you and handed you the flowers. The appreciative smile betrayed your annoyance.
âYâknow, in a way, you did piss off your parents.â Luke nudged your shoulder, changing topic. You ran your fingers over the flower petals. âLike you wanted.â
And that was what you wanted. To get back at your parents, to piss them off, for how judgmental and controlling theyâve been of your life. So shouldnât it feel good?
Luke kept staring at you, taking in how resigned you looked. Your mouth turned downwards whilst your eyes hid how upset you were at the comments.
âThank you.â You finally spoke up and placed the flowers in your lap. âI thinkâŚwe donât have to continue this anymore.â
You spoke with much thought put into this. The whole goal was to piss off your parents. Why did you need to fake date when you already did that?
âDonât be stupid, sweetheart.â Luke rolled his eyes and opened up the Chinese food he bought. âIâm still in it for the trip.â
You snorted. Of course he was. âBesides, you havenât even touched the surface of rebellion. You feel unsatisfied because you planned this.â He made his point by gesturing with his chopsticks.
âYouâre not supposed to care about what other people think of you or your actions.â Luke shoveled some Kung Pao Chicken in his mouth. He talked like he was an expert on this. He was, but only to his dad.
âSo what now?â What a failure this was.
âI help you experience your new freedom with rebelling.â Luke smirked and offered you some food. âCâmon sweetheart, the least you could do is indulge in my ways.â
âOkay, Master Yoda.â You laughed and took a piece of his chicken. The sky had fully darkened and the stars blinked in the night sky.
âNo, no! Iâm Anakin! Come to the dark side.âLuke and you look out at the stars and constellations. You lean your head against his shoulder.
âFine.â You mumbled. âIâll join the dark side.â

Wherever Clyde goes, Bonnie follows.
Youâve found yourself to be a permanent resident of Hermes Cabin. Another year goes by which meant another year of being unclaimed. Multitude of wishes and prayers are wasted: at this point those wishes, offerings and prayers look like pathetic begging.
Youâll forever be an unclaimed camper.
And youâve accepted that. If you had been claimed, then you wouldnât get the privilege of Travis and Connor stealing ice cream when you cover them or the privilege of Chris coming to you about his girl problems or the privilege of sharing a bunk with Luke Castellan.
What Chiron and Mr. D donât know wonât hurt them.
It is a nice turnout because while you share a bed with the love of your life, another kid doesnât have to sleep on the crowded floor.
Besides the fact you werenât claimed, everything at camp was great. You didnât feel alone or isolated anymore. You felt at home at Camp. You had a wonderful boyfriend and even greater friends (as corny as it sounds).
Until, Percy Jackson arrived at camp. Now, donât twist this in the wrong wayâPercy is just the sweetest kid and you were sympathetic to him losing him mom.
It was during Capture the Flag when you realized everything you knew was gone. You couldnât resent Percy for that. Only your dad.
Luke triumphantly held the red teamâs flag as the blue team retreated to the lakeâs beach. Celebration paired with cheers and hollers. A proud smile as one of the campers hooked their arm around your shoulder, screaming your ear off.
Some of the campers were making a list of demands that the Red Team had to accommodate to when Percyâs shouting interrupted all of that.
You took off your helmet to see Percy in the lake. The culprit, Annabeth. Athenaâs daughter was always two steps ahead of everyone, in Lukeâs words. She seems to know something everyone else didnât.
Luke looked distraught and shocked when it happened. A glowing trident hovering over Percyâs head. An outward statement claiming he is Poseidonâs son.
Yet, that same glowing trident was above your head. You felt your throat close up. So longâŚso long and now your dad claims you when Percy arrives.
It was common knowledge that Hades, Zeus and Poseidon made a pact to not father any more half-bloods due to destruction and war and whatever. But, what now? Poseidon claimed his son and daughter. For what? To boast? To showboat?
Questions kept ringing in your head. The life you knew gone. No more ice cream from Travis and Connor. No more information of Chrisâ recent crushes. No moreâŚsharing a bunk with your boyfriend.
âPoseidon.â Chiron trotted over to Percy. He gave you a smile. You were claimed! Itâs what you always hoped and dreamed for. You should be ecstatic. Right? âEarthshaker, Stormbringer, your godly parent.â
It was inevitable. You werenât destined to destroy or aid the world because you werenât sixteen anymore. You doubt you were destined for anything.
Was this some fucked up way of your pops telling you he still cares? He still sees you? That heâs there for you?
It took him so many fucking years to claim you as his.
And the fact he did it when his son arrived at Camp Half-Blood. Did he want a boy to be the prophetic savior of the world?
Oh, so he wants to say heâs been there for you this whole time? Luke has been there. Cabin Eleven has been there, not your deadbeat pops. It wasnât a surprise you joined Kronos so quickly.
You knew Luke was succumbing to the nightmares that plagued him every night. The voice in his head to revive the Titan. Now, you didnât have anything against the other gods or Percy. It really was just some olâ rebelling against your dear old dad.
Percy was tense staying still. The scorpion on his knee. He looked at it wearily. Luke was explaining his reasoning for betraying Camp. You couldnât blame him. After so many years of neglect and the spirals his mother went through, you felt he had every right to be angry. As did you.
âThe gods are my enemy, Percy. Poseidon made a mistakeâhe made a mistake by neglecting your sister.â Luke pointed Backbiter at the boy.
âLukeâŚâ You placed a hand on his shoulder. His tense shoulders seemingly relaxed.
He let his arm fall to his side. He looked over his shoulder at you. A mix of a soft and intense gaze. Luke only wanted to defend your dignity, your honor, your glory. He thought it was unforgivable that Poseidon would claim you that day of all the days you prayed and wished and begged.
Heâs seen how desperate youâve gotten. How many tears shed. How many times heâs had to comfort you because you donât feel like you belonged. Kronos would provide a New World. A new Golden Age where you didnât have to suffer with a shitty father anymore.
Your palm held his scarred cheek. He met your lips in a soft kiss. Everything would be okay if you were with one another. Love is a very powerful thing to wield after all.
âIâm sorry, Percy.â You apologized, looking over at your half-brother. The pit scorpion on the back of his hand. âItâsâŚitâs nothing against you.â
You attempted to find the words to explain your situation. Lukeâs calloused hand held yours gently. It was time to go. To flee from Camp.
âItâs our father that I hate, not you. Youâyou have to understand.â You hastily explained. âHe left me neglected for year. I was content staying at Hermes Cabin andâhe decided to claim me when I finally had a place here.â
âThe world will remember us, Percy. Olympus will remember not to fuck with usâour dads will remember not to neglect any other half-blood.â Luke stated and twisted Backbiter in his hand. A determined glint in his eyes. Kronosâ calling him away to revive him already.
âGoodbye, Percy. This is the new Golden Age. You wonât be apart of it.â Luke slashed an arc with Backbiter, creating a rip through time and space to travel. The scorpion lunged.
You hesitated a moment, seeing your half-brother in agony. Luke told him sixty seconds. Heâll make it. Heâs Percy Jackson after all.
You couldnât delay your departure any longer. Luke needed someone by his side. To keep his sanity with Kronos calling out to him so often.
Wherever Clyde goes, Bonnie follows.
You departed from Camp, not knowing that would be the last time you see your beloved home.

Ding!
A passive aggressive text shows up on your lock screen from Aunt Shelley. You were out with Silena, Clarisse and Thalia when the first signs of acknowledgment of your new relationship shows up.
The photo of your friend group covered by (now) two texts from Aunt Shelley:
Aunt Shelley
I wish you would tell us about this boy of yours before announcing it to the whole world.
3m ago
Kidding! He seems lovely.
1m ago
She was not kidding.
You sent back a short text, making up some excuse about why you havenât said anything. Sure, you hard-launched the ârelationshipâ intending for your family to see, but that backfired. Kind of.
Most of them didnât care about social media yet they insisted on following you when you made an account.
Aunt Shelley
Tell him to buy brighter clothes for Easter!
now
At least they didnât seem to recognize Lukeâs mop of curls. Luke has only been to your house once in high school in freshman year. Well, Luke had matured since then and he did gain some meat on his bones. You wouldnât blame them if they didnât recognize him.
âTheir reactions will be funnier when I introduce myself.â Luke mumbled with closed eyes. An arm wrapped around you abdomen. His thumb rubbing your side. Cheek pressed against your shoulder as he listened to you.
He insisted on taking a nap at your dorm to strengthen the image of your faux relationship, totally not because he was escaping his fratâs latest activities. It was something like a date auction or car wash.
âDo you plan on listening to my Aunt?â You asked, referring to Lukeâs closet.
âFuck, no.â Luke answered with ease.
âWill you at least be civil?â You asked and nudged your shoulder against his head.
Luke picked up his head and looked at you. âWeâre supposed to be rebelling. Pissing off your parents for being judgy and shitty and what not.â
Honestly, you were hesitant on ârebellingâ. Sure, it was just bringing Luke over and dating him because your parents hate him. But, you didnât want your parents to hate you for being disrespectful nor rude.
Luke noticed your hesitation. He sighed through his nose. âFine. Iâll play nice.â He laid his head back on your shoulder. âBut you owe me take out if the food is bad over there.â
Believe it or not, Luke had become more docile. His touch more gentle and caring. His pocket always had chapstick now that he had a âgirlfriendâ again. Was he always like this with his other girlfriends?
You been there everytime Luke was in and out of relationships, but you never seen how he acted with his significant others.
And thankfully, being in a fake relationship with Luke was quite easy. The two of you know each other like the back of your hands. It was practically the normal platonic chemistry, just add cheek kisses, holding hands and flirting. No butterflies appeared and no hands got sweaty around him.
Perfect.
Because thinking about your best friend in romantic sense was the wrong pathway to go. Itâs not like you have, justâŚthink about all the movies and books. Usually they never ended well (you think).
âCharlie knows I called it. I knew it!â Silena exaggerated pridefully. Both of you were walking to your Art History Class. âThe way you guys would look at each other andâgoshâŚI still canât believe it.â
You laughed at your friendâs delusional nature. You canât exactly pinpoint a time when Luke and you gave each other a look before this contract, but whatever helps Silena sleep at night.
The two of you sit at your usual seats and wait for the rest of the students to trickle in.
Ding!
Mom
Your father and I are very excited to meet this new boyfriend of yours!
now
You wondered if she remembered Luke. He did leave an impression on her. The first time Luke met your mother, he was a little excited and rowdy because you and him were going to stream a new movie that left theaters.
Your mother hated when the quiet in the house was broken when Luke and you were excitingly talking. âYouâre like a fly, disrupting this environment.â She scoffed from the dining room and went upstairs to her room.
Safe to say, you hung out at Lukeâs house from that day forward (you just gave him your Netflix password). Thankfully, Luke didnât feel too hurt.
âOh! I know.â Silena placed her notebook on the table. A suggestive grin on her face. âThereâs this party we can go to and celebrate you lovebirds!â
âSilena, thatâs not really necessaryââ
âYou gotta see it for yourself though!â
âSee what?â
âThat twinkle in their eyes.â
âWhat?â
The professor entered the lecture hall and began the lesson on art from the transcendentalist period. Twinkle? What twinkle? Like the stuff that romance novels describe when a character falls in love? Come on, that canât be real.
âLike romance book twinkle?â You leaned over and whispered to Selene. She smiled knowing she had you hooked. Her pencil moved as she talked.
âLike when you get dressed for a party or a date andâŚandâŚâ She tore her eyes away from you to look if she spelled a word right in her notes. ââŚthey get that first look and their eyes light up like youâre their whole world.â
Your professor called you and Silena out for talking and the both of you quickly write down the notes. Though you both continue the conversation.
âListen, our friend group doesnât have to go party or go to a bar. Just suggest a date with Luke tonight and watch his eyes when youâre in your date night outfit.â Silena and you walk to the gym, scanning your ID and going through the turnstiles.
You look at your phone again.
Luke<3
boxing with beckendorf
13m ago
Silena and you walked towards the destination. The familiar black compression shirt and mop of chocolate curls appearing in your field of vision. His gray sweat matching his top.
Beckendorf was spotting Luke as he hit the punching bag in calculated movements. He shifted his weight between his two feet and with laser focus the material of the worn out glove made contact. Beckendorf grunted quietly. Luke could pack a punch.
It was kinda hot.
âCharlie!â Silena disrupted the practice to go hug her sweaty boyfriend. Luke and him mustâve have been taken turns hitting the punching bag.
Luke turned in your direction. A slow smile spread across his fast. He was quick to get his gloves off before greeting you with a forehead kiss. âHey beautiful.â His hands resting on your waist.
If your next boyfriend wasnât meeting the same standards as Luke was right now, you didnât want him. Luke was practically the perfect boyfriend.
âWe should go on a date tonight.â You suggested, obviously curious about this âtwinkleâ Silena was talking about.
Luke grabbed his gym bag and put away his boxing gloves. You grabbed him a white towel to wipe off his sweat. âYeah? For what?â He drank some water and tossed his gym bag on his shoulder. âYour family being shitty to you again?â
Silena and Beckendorf said quick goodbyes and left the gym. You took out your body spray and spritzed Luke with it a couple of times. âNoâŚâ You made sure Silena and Beckendorf were gone. âEaster. We need to talk about Easter with my family?â
âWhat is there to talk about?â Luke asked and sat down on the wooden bench. You joined him. His musk covered by your body spray.
âI donât knowâŚlikeââ You paused trying to get the words out. âWhat we should do if likeâmy mother asks some stupid question. Or my aunt flirts with you or if my family ask you to prove weâre dating.â
âYouâre not trying to get me to take you out and get you food are you?â Luke nudged your shoulder and teased.
âYes.â You stated bluntly. âBut more importantly, Easter.â
Luke and you decide to go out to dinner at a diner nearby. You made him shower and change first before anything. While he was at his dorm, you were struggling to pick and outfit to successful procure a twinkle.
You stood in front of your mirror, looking at your reflection. Clarisse was on her bed, reading a book for her English class. Though she got distracted by you numerous times.
After what it felt like the umpteenth time putting on different jeans and skirts and some sort of clothing combination, Clarisse pulled her headphones away from her ears. She could feel your frustration and dilemma. The hot-tempered girl was in your shoes once.
âWear something casual, but cute.â Clarisse suggested and scanned her eyes over the clothes scattered on the floor.
âLike that withâŚthat.â The articles of clothing made sense together, but would it give that twinkle you were curious about. It would have to do for now.
âWhenâs he picking you up?â Clarisse sat up. âI promise you, youâre overthinking this. Itâll be fine.â
You look at her after changing into the clothes she picked out. âI know, I justâwhat if this doesnât work out?â Of course, you had in the rebelling against your parents with this relationship, but to Clarisseâyou looked worried about your relationship with Luke.
âIt will.â Clarisse reassured. âYouâve been best friends for how long?â
A couple of knocks rapped against your door. Clarisse gestured for you to take a deep breath before she went back to reading. You stalked over to the door and opened it.
âGo change.â You immediately stated upon seeing his shirt.
In big bright white letters, his shirt read âI <3 my girlfriend.â Forgot the twinkle, that stupid t-shirt was going to haunt you forever if you let Luke go out in that.
âWhat, why?â Luke whined, knowing exactly why.
âLuke! Go change orâorâŚâ You hesitated to find a right threat.
âHelpful hint, sweetheart. If youâre going to threaten me, find a viable threat before you start it.â Luke called out and went to change.
You were going to strangle him. Maybe this relationship wonât be as easy managing as you thought. You were praying Easter will go how itâs planned or at least work in pissing off your parents.

pairing: luke castellan x daughter of aphrodite!reader
summary: you were doomed from the start you were claimed as aphroditeâs daughter. you were doomed from the beginning you joined the hunters of artemis, you were doomed when you saw luke castellan
warnings: pre-tlt, angst, betrayal, alluding to kiss, main character death, spoilers to the last olympian, spoilers to the titanâs curse
a/n: ik this is not accurate to being a hunter of Artemis but i thought it was an interesting concept, so apologies and bare with me on this! also bare with me on columba being a constellation in pre-tlt. itâs all to fit the story and plot. idk if I liked this one as much. lmk if you guys do!
ââ ٠⤠٠ââ¡ ⢠ââ ٠⤠٠ââ ⢠¡ ââ ٠⤠٠ââ
In every hero story, the protagonist had fatal flaws or in other words weaknesses. Superman had kryptonite. Green Lantern, the color yellow (in your opinion it was a stupid weakness). Annabeth has admitted numerous times her fatal flaw was hubris. Percy couldnât tell, but his was his excessive loyalty.
And you?
Yours was love and love led to you easily trusting something which ultimately led you to your naivety.
So, you joined the Hunters of Artemis; trying to make the futile attempt to escape your flaw.
âI pledge myself to the Goddess Artemis. I turn my back on the company of men, accept eternal maidenhood, and join the Hunt.â
Your mother was not thrilled when one of her daughters swore off love and into maidenhood. Additionally, your charmspeak would not be proven useful as a Hunter.
One sacrifice for your life.
You thought it would be the perfect solution to escape your fatal flaw. Artemis required her hunters to reject all forms of romance. If you did happen to fall for a man, you would meet the same fate as Kallisto. If you fell for one of your fellow hunters, you could bargain.
It was perfect.
Until Mr. Greatest swordsman of his time weaseled his way to your heart (again.) The first time was when you arrived at Camp. It was your motherâs revenge: rekindling a past crush you got rid of ages ago.
Luke Castellan managed to flash you one charming smile when the Hunters of Artemis were resting at Camp Half-Blood (much to the displeasure of the hunters).
Your swore your heart beat at least twice as fast as usual when you saw him pass by and flash you a smile. He was as cute as you remembered yet mature and responsible. Quickly, you reminded yourself if you fellâArtemis would turn you into an animal.
âIn and out, a week at least due to winter solstice.â That was what Artemis promised the hunters for their duration at Camp.
It only took you a week to fall in love all over again.
After another easy win of Capture the Flag for the Hunters of Artemis, you found yourself in the vicinity of Luke everywhere. He seemed curious. The girl he knew two years ago as the daughter of Aphrodite was now a Hunter of Artemis.
He thought you died due to monsters or refused to come back to camp. Look at you now, a beautiful silver glow and circlet complimenting the beauty you had. Your personality still the same. Aphrodite made his heart beat a little fast when he saw you again.
It was bad. It was really bad.
Guilt twisted in your stomach at the thought of breaking Artemisâ oath. You were not as distrusting and peeved at the thought of men like some of the other Hunters were. You were still relatively new to being a hunter, about a year or so.
You even began to talk to Luke in secrecy, so your fellow Hunters would not pull you away. You knew you fallen for the boy hard when he did some kind gesture. You were still a girl after all.
You shouldâve stayed Aphroditeâs daughter. You shouldnât have ran away from your weakness.
Artemis was supposed to come back the last day the Hunters were staying at Camp. Many girls, like ZoĂŤ, were glad to get out of Camp, out into the wild. YouâŚnot so much, but it would do you good. Yet, your motherâs plan for revenge was complete.
âWould you still love me if I was a worm?â You asked the night before Artemis came back to camp. Hands twisting in one another as you stared at the moon.
Luke chuckled. The more he talked to you the more he loves your way of talking. Heâs heard this question before as a joke from Chris, but the serious look on your face dispels the humor.
âYes, of course. Iâd buy the best damn place for a worm and take care of you still.â Luke reassured and put a hand on yours. Your silver glow fading and fading as your heart beat for him.
âIâm serious.â You conveyed.
âI am too.â
âLukeâŚIââ You took a moment to compose yourself. âI donât know what will happen when Lady Artemis comes back tomorrow. Sheâll be hurt and disappointed I broke my oath andâand kept this from her. Iâll be turned into an animal when she sees meâsheâll knowâŚâ
Luke hears the guilt and panic in your voice. He sees it in your expression. âHeyâŚhey.â Luke soothed and shushed your worry. âYou told me you could bargain if you fell in love with one of your hunters. MaybeâŚyou can do it for this?â
âI canâtâŚâ You denied and shook your head.
âYou are the daughter of Aphroditeâsurely Artemis will understand.â Luke reassured you and pulled you into a hug.
âI was the daughter of Aphrodite.â You spoke into his shoulder.
âMaybe your mom and Artemis are fighting about this right now?â Luke suggested to try and make you feel better, but he knows better than anyone that the gods and goddesses wonât fight for their kids.
You fell into silence. That silver glow that all Hunters had had completely faded. Your heart hurt with guilt and shame. âListen.â Luke whispered soothingly into your ear. âWhatever animal you turn into, I will not love again. You will be my first and last love.â
âLukeâŚyou canât just swear off of love . Itâs uselessââ You protested. You failed and you doubt Luke would be able to do it.
âI swear on River Styx.â Luke said firmly. The crush that rekindled after so long felt like fire through his and your hearts.
Your first and last kiss was shared by Luke Castellan. It was bittersweet and everlasting.
You confessed to Artemis with downcast eyes the next day. You broke her oath and met the same fate as Kallisto. Aphrodite would be mad at the goddess, but that did nothing to stop her from turning you into an animal.
A dove.
An ironic thing to be turned into.
You were visited by Artemis once more after that crucial day. It was out of pity. The Goddess, herself, knew you would succumb to your emotions as the daughter of Aphrodite. She had warned you once and yet you insisted on joining the Hunt.
You did not deserve a place in the stars, not with your story.
And yet, Artemis pitied you. She forgave you. She ended your life as a dove and blessed you to live in the stars. Just like Kallisto and her son. And soon, just like ZoĂŤ Nightshade.
You wondered if Aphrodite wept for you when a new constellation was added to the night sky.
Columba. A faint constellation with the Latin name dove.
Luke stared at the faint constellation as he laid on the battlefield, having stabbed himself. He was to be judged in the Underworld and condemned for all the crimes he committed by being Kronosâ Lieutenant.
Columba was made up of a blue subgiant and a runaway star.
Your story was a reminder that no one should run away from their fatal flaw. That other half-blood should face their weakness head on.
Columba. Lukeâs first and last love. The last thing heâll see in his life.

You were a coward.
Not with everything, because gods forbid youâre afraid of monsters despite having demigod-blood in you.
No, you were a coward with confrontation. With emotions, with love. Mainly love. You couldnât even confess to a someone without your stomach churning.
And how you expressed attraction wasâŚnot ideal, according to Silena. You kind of, sort ofâjust a tad made fun of some things you found attractive of them.
Ideally, you wanted to leave yourself out for the harpies to maul you when your crushes give you a look (you knew you fucked up).
Which is why you have stuck to the tactic of watch and admire from afar and be happy with just friendship.
A classic.
The bonfire burned high and orange as many of the older campers and counselors, including yourself, were hanging out without the responsibilities of taking care of your younger siblings.
The typical red solo cups were in the hands of every demigod. A mysterious mixture made by Dionysusâ twins, Pollux and Castor, occupied the container. They never told anyone the recipe or whatâs in it, but it left a warm feeling in your chest.
âYou keep staring and heâs bound to notice.â Silena sat next to you. âOr your eyes fall out.â
âI hate him. Why does he have to look like that?â You groaned and sipped your drink to distract you from your current crush.
Luke Castellan. The golden boy of Camp Half-Blood. He could charm anyoneâs pants off with a smile. It was frustrating how good looking and friendly and cool and kind he was. Fuck him.
He was talking the Chris and Beckendorf about who knows what. Somehow, the Hermes counselor has yet to have a girlfriend. Heâs probably a virgin. You could fix that.
âHoneyâŚâ Silena looked at you with concern in her eyes and a polite smile. âThe whole sit and admire tactic is redundant. Talk to him.â
âSilenaâŚâ You whined and the girl was preparing herself to listen to your list of excuses of why you canât.
âNo, noâdonât whine like a baby!â Silena dumped the rest of her drink into your cup. Taking initiative, she made your chug like half. âFess up or mess up! Take some liquid courage and go talk to him.â
âSilenââ You sputtered as your chest grew as warm as the bonfire. Your throat burned in a good way.
Whoever said Silena was the Campâs Cupid was right and she was quite determined to get a start on pairing you and Luke. Just to see how it turns out, of course.
Next thing you know, youâre dragged over to Luke, Chris and Beckendorf; interrupting the boysâ conversation. Silena made up some lame excuse and said a quick introduction before shoving Chris and Beckendorf away from Luke and you.
Gods, heâs so gorgeous. His curly hair tosseles over his head. His eyes meeting yours as he sipped on his own drink. That amused smirk that paired so well with his scarâboth working in favor of his boyish charm.
And suddenly heâs moving his mouth.
âHey.â He said normal and polite as one would do. Obviously.
And you canât help but think of Tangled. Specifically, the scene when Flynn Rider is tied up to a chair with Rapunzelâs hair. She interrogating him and all he could muster was a smolder and the word âHeyâ, to try and charm his way out.
Luke looks out quizzically as you poorly try to stifle a mix between a giggle and a snort behind your hand. He mustâve thought you were crazy for laughing or extremely rude.
Itâs frustrating how nervous you can be in front of your crushes.
âHiâsorryâŚâ You managed to quiet your laughs and awkwardly sip your drink. The words began flying out of your mouth before you had a chance to stop. âI was thinking about how you remind me of Flynn Rider from Tangled. How are you?â
âTangled?â Luke tilted his head in confusion. Oh gods, has this boy never experience Disney movies? This just made it even more terribly awkward if he didnât get the reference.
âYâknowâŚthe girl with the glowing hair locked in a tower until Flynn Rider gets her out to see the lanterns in exchange for the crown?â You explained.
âOh! Rapunzel.â Luke nodded. âYeah I remember that. I always loved the lantern scene.â
âMe too! Iâve always wanted to experience something like that.â You agreed and looked over at the bonfire. Silena and Beckendorf encouraging you to keep talking to him.
Though Luke and you fell silent. Your mind wracking topics to talk about with him, but all you can think of is how handsome he is. Now looks arenât everything, but his personality was a gorgeous as Elysium.
âGods, you are just so handsome.â You find yourself admitting without even thinking about it. You find the words to talk to him about anything and everything, but your stumble.
Luke grabbed your arm. Stars dotting your vision. The âliquid courageâ Silena forced down your throat catching up to you. âHey, I think thatâs enough drinking. Yeah?â
âYeahâŚâ You mumble as Luke leads you away from the bonfire and towards your cabin.
âLetâs get you back to your bunk, yeah? Sânot good to be so drunk now.â He cared enough to walk you back to your cabin! It left a warm feeling in your body, or that was the Dionysus twinsâ special drink.
The cabin door creaks open and Luke procures some water. You drink it as Luke crouches to get your converse off. Again, your heart is warm inside, but that could just be the alcohol.
Luke laid your blanket over your body. An amused smirk on his face. He found you drunk, cute. So, he decides to admit something hoping youâd remember tomorrow. Youâre already half asleep when you hear this.
âI think youâre cute too. Letâs start out with watching Tangled first before we do anything, yeah?â Luke laughed quietly, trying not to wake your siblings. He wanted it to take it slow with you. Was this some drunk dream?
âYeahâŚâ You find yourself mumbling. Your eyes drooping shut before opening again. Struggling to stay awake to keep talking to Luke, you fall asleep.
Silena was a damn good Cupid.

âAre we still friends?â
âWhat?â
âCan we be friends?â
âAfter all of this?â
âAfter all of this.â
It would be a disastrously great story to tell your grandkids (if you had grandkids). Quite embarrassing really, telling someone about how naive and oblivious you were (still are.)
It was spring. The flowers in full bloom. Allergies spreading like wildfire due to pollen. Thankfully, it was raining cats and dogs, so no stuffy noses tonight. You decided to come back from your hometown two days before spring break ended. As much as you were homesick after spending so long at college, your family made you feel homesick for college.
It was torturous. Questions and questions about your college life were thrown at you left and right. From potentially having a significant other to your major that you were taking to who you were friends with to being disappointed in your college major to asking about your grades to being disappointed you party to just being disappointed.
All in all, truly you loved your family. Really, you do. Your aunt made great pastries. Your dad a great cook. Your uncle made really funny (bad.) jokes. Yet, they found some way to critic your every decision and move you make. You hated it.
Your shoes squeaked on tiled stairs. Lugging up your suitcase, you just prayed you didnât fall. The tiles were wet because peopleâs shoes were wet. You did not want to pay a hospital bill after barely paying for college.
By the time you got to your dorm, you were already half asleep, running on an overpriced yogurt parfait from the airport. The soft comforter of your bed calling out to you like a sirenâs song.
You were lulling off to dreamscape when a loud ominous creak filled the silence. âCâmon. You gotta be better than that. Lock your doors.â Lukeâs âcharmingâ voice replaced your peace. âSome creep could waltz in and kidnap you in your sleep.â
âSupposed youâre that creep?â
Luke has been attached to your hip since highschool, freshman year. Both of you have suffered through each otherâs numerous cringy phases (only to bring them up for the annual birthday post on instagram).
He was one of the friends your parents despise. They always ranted about how theyâve been a bad influence to you since highschool.
âDepends.â The bed dipped under his weight. âDo you think you look okay enough to go out?â
âI guess, but I feel disgusting.â You answered. Confusion swimming through your mind. Where was Luke going with this?
âAre you upset because of a recent event?â
âKinda.â
âUpset enough to stay holed up the whole evening?â Luke rephrased.
âNo.â
âOkay.â Decision.
You heard his windbreaker swish as his arms wrapped around your waist. âLuke!â Like a bag of potatoes you were tossed over his shoulder. âYou fuckingâ!â
He grabbed what he was originally came in your dorm for and exited. Silena, Chris and Clarisse were waiting for Luke and now, you. âWelcome back!â Silena said, masking her shock.
No one knew you were coming back home early and Luke wasnât surprised. As much as you wanted to stay in your dorm and sleep, you were glad to be with your friends.
The restaurant was loud and lively. The rain ceasing. College students were celebrating their final few days before classes started up again. The occasional drunks here to watch the multiple football games going on. Your friend group chose to celebrate.
The dim lighting was a stark contrast to the bright TVs that played various football and soccer games. Drinks slid down the bar into the awaiting consumerâs hand. Alcohol got everyone in a better mood during the night (though the same cannot be said the morning after).
A waiter placed down the five shots Luke had ordered, in toast of your unexpected return and the final days of spring break. The shot glasses made a tiny clink before the liquid burned your throat. It left a warm feeling in your chest.
Silena and Clarisse went to take photos via Chris the cameraman. The three went out to the porch of the restaurant bar. You opted out and Luke stayed with you. You werenât exactly in the nicest clothes.
Another round of shots were placed on the table. Luke ran his fingers through his curls and checked his phone. âWhatâs bothering you?â He asked.
âWhat?â You tore your gaze from the two girls and looked at Luke.
âYou said you were upset about something, but not too upset to not go out.â Luke explained. âBetter to get it off your shoulders than to bottle it up.â
You roll your eyes at his last sentence and sat up in the cushioned restaurant chair. âFamily.â Luke laughed a little at that. Heâs known how perfect your family wants you to be.
You shove your face into your hands as if you were reliving the reunion all over again. âI didnât even do anything bad or get in serious trouble this time!â
Luke nodded along slowly, taking in your every word. You canât tell what heâs thinking as you continue on your little rant. Yet his face shifts as you rant.
âWhy are your grades like that?â
âI saw your Instagram post. Drinking? Really?â
You parrot some of the questions your family said to you, with their fake smiles and judgmental eyes. You were old enough to drink! âAnd then they started talking my ear off about you all. Clarisse! Thalia, youâSilena and Chrisâ The list goes on. Luke knows it. You know it.
âWhy are you friends with that temperamental girl? Lord knows the trouble youâll be roped into with her.â You mocked your parents, aunts and unclesâ words. âI donât like how that Thalia girl. Too rebellious, disrespectful too!â
âThat one girl is an airhead. Head in the clouds.â
âDonât get me started on that Luke boy again.â
âGet better friends.â
âMaybe you hang out with a different group.â
âThey piss me off! And well maybe theyâre concerned about my wellbeing, butâthey keep harping me about everything little thing I do.â You groaned and rubbed your eyes exhausted. âWhich is why I came back early.â
âSo piss them off.â Like that was the hardest thing you do. You unintentionally trigger their judgmental side without even trying.
âWhat?â
âItâs what I do to my dad. I piss him off most of the time when he tries to come back.â Luke shrugged. âIf they hate all of us so much. Date one of us, shitâdate me, youâve known me the longest. I think theyâd be pretty pissed about you dating a bad influence.â
âThatâs so childish.â You commented, but it was good, but it could work. Rebellion never hurt anyone that bad. Well, maybe your aunt will have a âheart attackâ, but it should be fine.
And you were out of options to try and get your family off your back.
So the next afternoon, when Clarisse was out, Luke and you sat on your bed and conjured up a contract for this temporary relationship; a day before break was over.
âI donât see why we need a contract.â Luke sipped on a juicebox. The sunlight providing a nice atmosphere in your dorm room.
âI saw it work on a show I watched kinda.â You whispered the word âkindaâ under your breath. It was a long time since youâve seen the show.
Luke raised an eyebrow and set the empty juice box on your desk. âSoâŚuhâterms and conditions.â You typed out on a Google doc in big bolded letters. How do you start this?
âWe could âdateâ from now until the start of summer? I think that is a long enough rebellion.â You suggested and looked at Luke. âI have to go back home for Easter and my little sisterâs birthday, but then I have that family trip in summerâŚâ
âSure.â Luke agreed.
You looked at him silently asking him to elaborate. âFrom now until that family trip is over. Iâll go to Easter, the birthday and the trip.â
âYou arenât trying to mooch off me for the trip are you?â
Luke slid the computer to him and typed out the first terms and conditions. He ignored your question with a smile and a shake of his head. âYou have to come with me when itâs Motherâs Day though.â
You agreed to that relatively quickly. Your mom and dad were always out of town that day. âIâm fine with kissing on the cheek and forehead and holding hands, if you are?â
âWhat? No lips?â Luke teased with a grin.
âI havenât had my first kiss yet.â You muttered in embarrassment.
âFine, no lips.â You were slightly surprised Luke didnât tease you for not having your first kiss yet. He typed it on the computer. âAnd no sex.â
âNo sex.â You agreed. âAnd we cannot let the others know. Theyâll start talking and then itâll get to my family somehowââ
âOkayâŚno sex and no talking about the fake relationship.â Luke chucked and typed it on the computer. âThis seems good enough for a contract right?â He still thinks the contract is stupid.
You smack his shoulder. âThis is serious, Luke! If I wanna piss of my parents I have to do it right.â
âOkay, sweetie.â He spoke sarcastically and typed his name at the end of the document. You did the same. âBut there is no right way to piss off someone. You just do.â
After signing the temporary dating contract, Luke and you talked about the story of how you got together.
Luke and you supposedly have had some unrequited feelings during highschool. Both of you began talking over spring break after a drunk conversation and decided to give dating a shot.
Then, there was the fact that Luke and you had to announce the relationship. So, social media it was. Which prompted you to grab his hand. âWhere are we going?â Luke asked as he was dragged off your bed.
âA cafe.â You held his hand, fingers lacing together. âIâm hungry after all that and it would be great publicity if we went out holding hands.â
âWhatever you say.â Luke rolled his eyes, though he didnât mean it. âThen I guess Iâll be the good boyfriend and pay.â
âReally?â You asked and looked back at him.
He shrugged. âWhy not.â
Luke and you held hands and talked about whatever came to mind. Like you usually did as bestfriends. He opened the cafe door for you and paid for your food and drink.
Maybe âdatingâ Luke wonât be the worst thing ever. Rebelling doesnât seem to be all that bad now. Maybe everything will turn out fine. You rebel against your perfect family and Luke will get a free trip as a reward. Yeah, youâre sure things will turn out okay. Maybe.

âLook who showed up.â Your friend grinned widely. Her head sticking out the window of your dorm room. You get off your bed and joined her.
A couple floors down was Luke in gray sweatpants, black compression shirt and a black jacket. His mischievous smile brightened when you popped your head out the window.
âHey, pretty girl.â He called out. Your boyfriend snuck onto your college campus. You knew exactly what he wanted to do.
Late night rides on his motorcycle.
The motorcycle was a gift for Hermes, an apology. It could take Luke anywhere he wanted. He just had to go 88 mph, like the DeLorean from Back to the Future.
âStay there, Romeo!â Your essay could be done later. Itâs been a bit since you hung out with Luke. He just got back from a quest recently. Thankfullyâhe didnât fail this time, nor get any scars.
âPlease cover me.â You begged your friend, tugging on your jacket and sliding some pajama pants over your shorts.
Before she could answer, youâre out the door and racing down the stairs. You completely disregard the need to be sneaky and secretive.
âMy fair, Juliet.â Luke smiled as you ram into him. A tight embrace. He quickly broke the hug he and looked around, excited to be reunited.
The Romeo and Juliet nicknames started since you started to go to college. He would always show up and stand under your balcony at night. It was quite cute really.
Luke grabbed your hand as you both ran out of your college campus, fleeing away in the cover of night. His trusty steed parked a little away from your dorm building.
âUp and at it.â He held your hips as your mounted the motorcycle like a horse. Your ears turned red (luckily hidden by your hair).
âWhere are we going?â You asked, flipping the visor up and down on his extra helmet.
âJust you wait, my sun.â Luke smirked and put on his helmet, prompting you to do the same.
(You swear heâs been learning all about Romeo and Juliet from the Apollo Campers. He firmly denies it, but you know he has since you started college.)
Soon enough the stars were moving besides you as the vehicle raced down the streets of New York. Luke sped through red light and speed limit cameras without a care for human lives. âSupposedly,â the Mist was covering you two.
âWhere are we going?!â You shouted and held onto his waist tighter. Your arms pressing against his abs.
Luke reached behind you and held your thigh. The motorcycle reached to 88 mph. Suddenly, a white flash surrounded the tow of you, transported you to an entirely different scene.
You and Luke parked on top of a mountain. A campsite to be specific. There was a table on top of a blanket. Flowers and your favorite snack by candles.
âYou did keep complaining about your school work soâŚâ Luke trailed off and removed his helmet. âI also know you miss camp since you started collegeâsurprise!â
âLukeâŚâ You mumbled and looked back at the camp counselor. âYou didnât have too. I wouldâve been fine with just a ride out in the city.â
âOh, but I wanted too.â Luke wrapped his arms around your hips. You tilted your head up at him. âCanât have you burning out before you come back to camp.â
You kiss his lips appreciatively, tangling your hands in his curls. Luke paused but kissed you back. He spun you so you were pressed up against his motorcycle (he loved doing this). âThank youâŚâ You breathed out.
âAnytimeâanything for you.â Luke trailed kisses down your jaw and neck, whispering it into your skin.
âYou really are a Romeo.â You giggled.
âThen you at my Juliet.â Luke smiled into your neck
When summer break started and exams were finished, Luke was the first one to see you. Wellâpick you up. You just moved out of your college dorm room and now packing up to stay at Camp Half-Blood. It was a quick hi and goodbye to your parent before youâre rushing down to meet your knight in orange armor.
âMy fair, Juliet.â He greeted with a playfully bow.
âRomeo.â You curtsies with your imaginary dress. You were giddy, finally being able to leave college life to escape to Camp Half-Blood.
Soon enough you were running up Half Blood-Hill, greeted by your cabin mates and friends you havenât seen for so long.
âOh shit, College is back!â Chris shouted, leaving the new Hermes kid he was with to greet you. The nostalgic smell of Camp hits you and suddenly you yearn to never leave camp again.
âMissed you too, Mercutio.â You embraced Lukeâs half-brother.
âStill? With that Romeo and Juliet shit?â Chris rolled his eyes.
âHey, itâs cute.â Luke defended.
âYeah cause youâre Romeo!â
âWhat do you and Clarisse want to be Romeo and Juliet?â
âWhatâno! She is no damsel in distress.â
âNeither is my girlfriend!â
âYet you still call her Juliet.â
âShut up.â

You grabbed your tote bag, filled with items essential for a picnic in the strawberry field. Hiking up your long white skirt, you travel down the steps of your cabin to be met with a smile worth a thousand suns.
âReady?â Sam asked. He took the tote bag from your grasp to carry it.
âMhm.â You hummed, paired with a smile.
Sam grasped your hand gently as you walk through camp to the strawberry fields. A mandatory picnic, according to you, after training day after day after day.
Sam had this look on his face. His eyes twinkled in admiration and love. Scarred hand against yours. You found the scar on the palm and back of his hand quite interesting. âHow was your morning?â He asked politely.
âTiring. You would not believe my half-siblings. Theyââ You went off on a tangent. You always did. Sam seemed to hang on to your every word.
You met Sam at one of the many bonfires the Camp had at the end of the day. The fire was burning a bright purple, climbing over 10 feet. It reflected the joyous energy of the campers.
It had been a month since Percy completed his quest, since Luke left camp.
Sam sat next to you, thinking his jokes and subtle timid charm would win you over. And it did. You found it quite cute.
Sam was perfect in every way. Heâd walk you from your cabin (or anywhere for that matter) to the dining hall. He made a bracelet for you with your favorite colors after indirectly learning your favorite colors. He says everything you need to hear. Itâs like he was created to be the perfect boyfriend.
But it doesnât entirely distract you from your past relationship with Luke Castellan.
Albeit messy, your time with Luke was exhilarating. Luke and you would fight and scream about your problems. It wasnât perfect nor all sunshine and rainbows most of the time, but Luke and you made sure to let the other know you loved them.
No matter the circumstances or the many silent treatments.
Because you canât have a healthy relationship without problems, right?
You were clueless on the love department. Luke was your first boyfriend and you hardly felt experienced enough now that you were with Sam.
(âHey, what was that?â Luke asked, concerned. The water shimmering like they were diamonds. Campers from Hermes and various other cabins were swimming. The counselors were the life guards, switching duties in shifts. Currently it was you and Luke.
âWhat?â You responded, dazed. Slowly, you turn your head to look at Luke.
You were in your head. Luke knew that. âWhereâs you just go?â He knew it too well that he pushed and pushed for answers causing and argument. He just wants to help.
You faded from the living world again, stuck in your head. Yet, water splashed on your leg snapped you out. âWhat?â
âYou just went somewhere.â Luke stated firmly and placed a hand on your shoulder. You cursed yourself in your head. Luke was able to read you well, too well.
âI went no where.â You denied.
âYou can tell me anything, yâknow.â Luke reassured.
âI know.â Your attention was back on the swimming campers. Lukeâs hands fell on top of yours.
âSo tell me, whatâs bothering you.â
âNothing.â
âSomething.â
âNothingâ
âSomething.â
âItâs nothing, for fucks sake, Castellanâ
âItâs better to get it off your chest, babe.â
âJustâjust, drop it. I went no where. Nothing is bothering me.â You felt your temper rise. The back and forth irritating you. This was how it always ended. His concern caused your irritation which eventually ended in either of you walking away to blow off steam. Only to make it up later.)
âAnd you would not believe it! Kayla and Will had to kick so many campers out because they whined about small cuts. It was all to see our new half-sister!â Sam gestured with his words with you.
âMhm.â You smiled and nod your head, hoping he didnât notice you zoning out.
Sam just stares at you, admiration in his eyes. Thankfully, he didnât notice you zoning out. He just smiles and squeezes your hand. Your heart stung with guilt. Reminiscing about the past when your future was right beside you.
The two of you spent the last hour on a hill overlooking the strawberry fields. The sun was high in the sky, but it wasnât overbearing nor did it make you sweaty and gross.
You can practically hear Lukeâs laugh fading, as if he was right next to you. What was it that Silena and Drew said?
That you could never get over your first love. That they are hard to forget because they the past lover leaves a searing feeling in your mind. That they are your first love.
Yeah, that sounds about right.
And itâs not like you were using Sam to get over Luke, no. You loved Sam, truly, but you were still wrung up over Luke. Sam was everything you could ask for in a guy, but LukeâLuke was the first. He was perfect to you in his own way.
Sure, there were arguments and silent treatments and pettiness, but Luke and you never broke up, it wasnât a toxic relationship. Not at all.
The conch for lunch blew throughout camp. You wondered what was conjured up in the camp kitchen today. Sam and you packed the blanket back into the bag (he carried the tote bag, no matter how girly it may be).
Hand in hand, you and Sam travel through the strawberry fields to the pavilion for lunch. A comfortable silence stirring between the two of you.
You look up at Sam and move to kiss his cheek. A gesture of reassurance for him and yourself, one to remind you that you loved him along with Luke.
The way you loved is difficult. The way you loved is unpredictable. You know though, you know for certain that no matter how many loves you have, Luke is your first.
Damn him for betraying Camp, for siding with Kronos. Damn your first love for cursing your heart with memories upon memories of him.

âMedic!â The door to the medical cabin slammed open. The door knob made a hole in wooden walls at Annabethâs strength. âWillâŚâ
She rasped out, carrying your dead weight. Your breath coming in short bursts as if your lungs couldnât hold any more air. Veins darkened to the color of night, crawling up your flesh like a parasite itching to take over the host.
âOh my godsâŚâ Will Solace, head counselor of Apollo Cabin, gasped and helped you onto one of the uncomfortable cots.
You were mumbling nonsense as black liquid dribbled out of your mouth. Will called out your name, desperately trying to grab your attention. Annabeth was standing over you, concerned.
âOh gods! Oh gods, oh gods, oh gods!â The other Apollo kid on duty piped up, scrambling to find the ambrosia. It was scary how you looked.
It was like something from the Underworld took hold of your body. There was a puncture wound on your abdomen, which was the probable entrance for the poison.
âHey, heyâstay conscious for me, okay?â Will spoke as your vision began to get cloudy. He can see you withering away and demanded for information.
âWillâŚâ You managed to croak out. Your friend looked at you with worry, to see the brightest camper succumb to an unknown illness wasâŚbone-chilling.
âDonât sleepâjust donât black out.â Will muttered as you tasted your favorite fruits as ambrosia slid down your throat easily. âPleaseâŚI donât know if youâll wake upââ
You were out like a light. The ambrosia combating the poison overwhelmed your body. It was too much for your mind to even find a sliver of energy to try and stay conscious.
Your name was shouted, but sleep pulled you away from the medical cabin and throwing you into a different scene.
It was dark, like you were walking in an empty void. âJudgement.â, you think. You mustâve died and was waiting to get judged on whether you can enter Elysium or not.
What a shitty death. Dying from poison, it wasnât hero worthy nor significant to a war. Just death to some ghastly poison that you were careless to figuring out what it was.
ButâŚitâs not Judgement. Itâs not because you see him. Heâs walking around in clothes you last remember him in. Orange Camp Half-Blood shirt, khaki pants and sneakers. The beads on his necklace moving each time he walked.
You know he isnât dead. He Iris-messaged you yesterday to apologize for his betrayal. He canât be dead. You wouldnât have it.
âLuke!â You tried to call out, but no sound is made from your mouth. It terrified you. You tried to scream your loverâs (ex-loverâs) name again as you saw claws wrap around Luke from the ground and drag him in.
You tried to scream his name again, running to him, but your legs felt like sludge. He stared at you indifferently, accepting his realityâmaybeâŚmaybe just maybe you could save him if you run fast enough.
He slipped between your fingers. His chocolate curls disappearing into the floor of whatever abyss youâre in. You let out a silent, dry sob. IfâŚif you had just noticed soonerâŚyou couldâve saved him.
The same hands wrap around your limbs, tugging you down into the floor. Crying out for help, your heart tightened as if someone had a grip on itâsqueezing ever last bit of life out. A sharp pull engulfed you into the void.
You gasped deeply. Body launching forward as you grabbed at your chest. You expected the familiar wood floors of the medical cabin or even Willâs warm smile, butâŚyou were on Half-Blood Hill.
Soft, calloused hands were gently placed in your spine. It doesnât take an Athena kid to figure out who it was.
âYou alright?â His deep warm tone filled your head making yourself dizzy. For momentâŚyou allowed yourself to believe he was here, truly.
âYeah.â You spoke, surprised to hear your voice again. What happened before becoming less and less memorable as you turned to look at Luke.
âYou can tell me, yâknow? Whatâs bothering you.â Luke reassured and tucked a piece of hair behind your ear.
A familiar smile graces your lips, allowing yourself to relax, you lean up against his chest. âI know.â You mumbled as his toned arms wrap around you. âI justâŚmiss you.â
âMiss me? Iâm hardly ever away from you.â Luke playfully teased.
The breeze blew against the two of you causing Luke to squeeze you a little tighter. You always claimed he was a human body heater.
Everything dropped. Faded in an all too quick manner before you could even scream for Luke. He was ripped away from youâbut you were supposed to be in his arms.
âHey! Sheâs up!â Someone called out.
You mind felt fuzzy. Mumbles, moans and groans tumbled out of your lips. You felt like you were outta your own skinâyou jerked. Uncomfortable with this sudden irritation.
Annabeth yelped. The sudden reaction from you almost hit her in the face. Another groan of discomfort and pain escaped. Accompanied by it was another struggle to get whatever was out of your body.
To you, it felt like you were shifting a little to get comfortable. In reality, your body was violently twitching and reacting you hit a few Apollo kids. The veins darker than before, your skin paler than usual. What did this poison do?
âGet herârestrainâŚIââ Will demanded, worried youâd end up hurting yourself.
You screamed as something grabbed you, someone grabbed you. Your brain could only register it as danger and hurt and agony andâ
âStop itâ!â You begged. Your voice sounded demented, as if it was the poison talking.
Black liquid oozed out of your mouth as you begged for whatever to stop. Ambrosia was forced down your throat. Lights were too bright. The panic was defeating.
You fell.
But you felt no pain.
It was âJudgementâ again. The endless void surrounding the distinct figure, you. âThere you areâŚâ Luke grinned once he spotted you. Your legs carrying you to the Hermesâ counselor before you could think of the action.
The void morphed into the familiar forest used to play Capture the Flag. Luke laced his hand with yours. âSâjust up ahead.â He tugged you along.
Once more, you let yourself relax like this was the reality that fate has set and not one where Luke betrayed Camp, betrayed Percy, betrayed Annabeth, betrayedâŚyou.
âWhere are you taking me?â You laughed. A bright smile on your face as you maneuvered through the forest.
Slipping through the trees and branches, Luke brings you to the dock. The water washing up on the small beach.
A small cliche red and white checkered blanket laid out across the wooden dock, masking the potential splinters. There was chips and two soda cans on the blanket and six roses bunched up to make it look like a bouquet.
âOh LukeâŚâ Any confusion or anger evaporated when you saw the scene.
He smiled, smiled that charming grin and pulled you to sit down on the blanket. âUsed up the rest of my money for the snacks and to bargain with a Demeter kid for these.â
He held up the six roses. The petals a delicate red, soft as a babyâs bum. They smelled nice. He went through all this effort for you?
âLukeâŚâ You repeat in the same tone and took the roses from his hand. You noticed the thorns were cut off and a couple of band aids were around his fingers.
A show of his effort to rid the thorns so you didnât prick your fingers.
âThisâŚthis is all wonderful.â You said, albeit a bit breathless. The roses, the snacks, the blanketâall the thought put into this date. It made you forget you were dreaming. You shouldâve knownâŚthis was too good to be true.
But you stayed oblivious and in denial, tackling your (ex) boyfriend in a grateful hug. Luke laughed and wrapped your arm around your waist.
Yet, your subconscious pulled you from the happy moment. An uncomfortable feeling itching to tear your guts and organs to shreds. It was as if your own organs and nerves did not belong thereâlike they were in the wrong body. A warbled scream left your throat. Hands desperate to claw at your flesh.
You wanted it to stopâyou would do anything to get this feeling to stop. Your heart breaking. To be ripped away from Luke again and again. In both subconscious and reality was cruel.
Your veins now tendrils crawling up your face, stopping just a little above your eyebrows.
âHey, heyâbreathe!â Someone comforted. You couldnât recognize their face. It was like as if your sense of familiarity disappeared, triggering your fight or flight (mostly fight) response.
âWillâthe antidote?!â A girl called out. Her voice somewhat familiar.
You struggled against binds. You wanted to run far, far away and stop this pain. The pain in your body, the pain in your mindâŚthe agonizing ache in your heart.
âLukeââ The name left your lips desperate for any sort of answer to what was happening.
A small pinch.
Fire. White hot pain sprouting in your body. Burning your insides out. Another cry for help. Another scream of desperation. His name leaving your mouth. It hurtâit hurt all too much. Both the burning in your body and the reality of him being gone. Truly, gone.
âLuke! PleaseâŚpleaseâhelp!â
Overwhelmed, you were sucked back into the dream. This time on a cabin bed. It was unclear on whose cabin you two were in. Luke had his arms around your waist, head on your stomach. The pain fleeting, but lingering.
The stars shined brights whilst the moonlight blessed you two. It was peaceful, almostâŚdare you sayânormal. No gods, no goddesses, no prophecies, no quests, no betrayal, no hurt. Nothing.
You found yourself humming, running your fingers through his curls, and feeling your eyes close with fatigue.
âFalling asleep there, sweetheart?â You could feel his smile against your skin. He pressed a kiss to the flesh nearest to his lips.
âMhmâŚâ Your body flared up due to a burnâbut there was no fire in the cabin. You stayed put. âIâI could spend all of eternity with you.â
âI could spend all of my time in Elysium with you.â Luke mumbled and turned his head to look up at you.
He pushed himself up onto his elbows, then his hands, so he was close to you. Lips connected like hands clasping for prayer. It was soft, yet it spoke a lot of words that he could not get out.
âI love you. Never forget that, okay?â Luke whispered against your lips.
His beaded necklace hovering over you. You placed your arms around his neck slowly and kissed him again. Never wanting the moment to stop.
Even then, you never had the courage to say those three simple words to Luke. Realizing this might be the last time you see him, dream or not. It made you sad he never heard it from you.
Maybe this will make up for it?
âI love youâI love you. I love you.â You repeated. Your voice shaky, holding back tears. This wasnât real and you know itâs not realâbutâŚyou missed Luke. You missed him so much that it hurts. You didnât believe he would betray Camp Half-Blood and you without Kronosâ manipulation.
âHeyâŚâ Luke cupped your face and kissed your forehead. He grabbed your arms to sit up. It wasnât good to cry laying down. âDonât tear up. Everything will be okay, okay? Iâm sorry.â
âSorry? What are youâ?â
âIâm sorry, but you have the wake up.â Luke sighed and pressed his forehead with yours.
âWaitââ
âYou have to wake up.â Luke grasped your hands. He held you as if this was the last time.
âWhat?â
âI love you very much andâand Iâm so sorry for leaving you thereââ
âLukeâwait!â
Your eyes shot up to be met with wooden walls of the medical cabin. Will and Annabeth shot up, ready to take necessary precautions. A dry sob left your mouth.
âHeyâŚâ Will spoke softly.
You sat up, tears cascading down your face. You started to helplessly wipe them. You could feel his touch lingering. His hands grasping yours. Will pulled you into a soft hug when he deducted the poison was out of your system.
The mind is cruel, the poison was cruel. Fate was cruel, life was cruel.
You missed him.
You buried into Will as if it was him. Will and Annabeth thought you were crying because of the overwhelming feelings of what happened when you were poisoned.
You missed him.
