The Ion Tail Of Comet SWAN. Follow Us To Explore More With Us @the_astrophysics_forum. Newly Discovered

The Ion tail of comet SWAN. follow us to explore more with us @the_astrophysics_forum. Newly discovered Comet SWAN has already developed an impressive tail. The comet came in from the outer Solar System and has just passed inside the orbit of the Earth. Officially designated C/2020 F8 (SWAN), this outgassing interplanetary iceberg will pass its closest to the Earth on May 13, and closest to the Sun on May 27.  The comet was first noticed in late March by an astronomy enthusiast looking through images taken by NASA's Sun-orbiting SOHO spacecraft, and is named for this spacecraft's Solar Wind Anisotropies (SWAN) camera. The featured image, taken from the dark skies in Namibia in mid-April, captured Comet SWAN's green-glowing coma and unexpectedly long, detailed, and blue ion-tail. Although the brightness of comets are notoriously hard to predict, some models have Comet SWAN becoming bright enough to see with the unaided eye during June. Tighten your seatbelts and get ready to explore endless universe 🚀 Make sure you follow us @the_astrophysics_forum To stay on board 👨‍🚀 . . . . . . . #comet #cometswan #astrophysics #astronomy #science #nasa #universe #space #physics #cosmos #cosmology #earth #astrophotography #galaxy #blackhole #spacex #planets #solarsystem #moon #einstein #quantummechanics #telescope #milkyway #scientist #astronaut #stephenhawking https://www.instagram.com/p/CCSVPTVj6wR/?igshid=1h723q0qojk6g

As soon as Neowise comet became visible, so many photos appeared across internet with it! Here is my capture of this magnificent comet. Unfortunately because of pretty bright and cloudy night it wasn't seen so well. I hope to have good weather in next few days to have another chance to photograph this thing! You still can see it, so take your chance! It won't be seen again for another 6800 years!🌠 . . . . . #latvija #latvia #enjoylatvia #thisislatvia #landscapephoto #landscape_photography #nightscape #nightphotography #comet #neowise #cometneowise #roamtheplanet #visualsofearth #visualambassadors #nightphoto #outdoorlife #outdoortones #folkgreen #planetearth #amazing_captures #awesome_earth #awesome_shots #moodygrams #thegreatplanet #nakedplanet #world_shotz #travelers #beautifuldestinations #stayandwander #depthsofearth (at Cenas Tīrelis) https://www.instagram.com/p/CC6Fko_BQ5d/?igshid=1kvjsbs6h7yd0

The Tails Of Comet NEOWISE!! Comet’s Usually Have 2 Tails That Always Point Away From The Sun.

The tails of Comet NEOWISE!! Comet’s usually have 2 tails that always point away from the Sun.

Here, NEOWISE’s blue ion tail on the left points directly away from the Sun and is pushed out by the flowing and charged solar wind. Structure in the ion tail comes from different rates of expelled blue-glowing ions from the comet's nucleus, as well as the always changing structure of our Sun's wind.

The other tail, the dust tail, is pushed out by sunlight, but curves towards its orbital path as heavier dust particles are better able to resist this light pressure. Comet NEOWISE's (Comet C/2020 F3) impressive dust-tail striations are not fully understood, as yet, but likely related to rotating streams of sun-reflecting grit liberated by melting ice on its 5-kilometer wide nucleus.

The Alien Throne with Comet 252P/Linear by Wayne Pinkston Via Flickr: No Aliens, just the Alien Throne. The unique Hoodoo is in the New Mexico Badlands, north of Chaco Canyon. I have been fascinated by the appearance since I first saw it's photo, and finally got to photograph it at night. The atmosphere is surreal. I love the melted wax appearance of the rocks in the region. 14-24 mm lens at 24 mm, 20 sec., f/2.8, ISO 6400. The small blue-green fuzzy object just above the right side of the large hoodoo is the comet 252P/LINEAR. Thanks for taking the time to look. Hope you enjoy! Big thanks to the wonderful Flickr family out there. Please join me at: Website Facebook Instagram Blog
