Now we can assume that Dabi, the greatest strategist in this entire story, had this planned out from the beginning or that he has lost his mind enough to just do the most reckless shit, I mean how is he gonna land safely on the ground from that position if he doesn’t burn himself before then?
But we can just as much assume that maybe, just maybe, he doesn’t even want to kill them.
That is similar to the panel of him noticing Aoyama in the training camp arc
Although he notices that someone is hiding behind the bush, he not only ignores it but also doesn’t even mention it to anyone.
Before Dabi attacked Hawks, the latter asked him the most burning question of the story: “Who are you?” which led to the most amazing line in the history of fiction:
Of course, maybe he really does want to kill Hawks now that he’s told him who he is and since he doesn’t trust him (his words not mine) why should he bother keeping him alive? And why should he keep alive a student that tries to protect Hawks and claims that Hawks “isn’t dirty” and has “done the right thing” when he could just burn them both and call it a day?
One reason for him monologuing is that he is a Todoroki so monologuing is in his blood
Another reason, though, would be that he doesn’t actually want to kill them.
While I don’t believe that his whole reason for being a villain is because of Stain like he claims, I do think it’s reasonable to assume that he liked what Stain was doing: calling people out on their bullshit.
Instead of just killing everyone who disagrees with his beliefs, he makes some valid points about the flaws in heroes.
He even pointed out how messed up it was that the heroes brought students along to this attack, which I think is due to Dabi generally being against kids being used as pawns by heroes. Going with the Touya theory, it’s obvious why he opposes that: he was born to be a pawn, too. But, unlike Hawks or Shouto, he broke free from that and is now trying to change things for the better. Maybe to get revenge, maybe also to prevent anyone else having to go through the same thing he had.
Why bother trying to change someone’s mind when you plan on killing them?
But how would he change things if he just killed them? It would be far more effective to fight them just enough for them to not fight back anymore but still keep them alive so that not only is he better than them since Hawks killed someone during this and he didn’t; by keeping them alive he is also giving them the chance to change their views.
Tokoyami may still be on Hawks’ side now because Hawks is his mentor and Dabi is still just another villain to him, but maybe Dabi’s words will stick with him and start making him question hero society and his own beliefs.
So instead of monologuing to buy himself time because his quirk weakened him, he’s monologuing to buy them time and make them understand that the villains are fighting for their right to live.

I was supposed to write this post a lot earlier, I’d planned to do it on NYE but the last couple weeks have been kinda crazy, so I couldn’t find the time to do it then, to make up for it, this will be an annotated rec list, meaning that I’ll also put in everything that I absolutely love love love about that fic. So here you are, more than 3 weeks later than planned, my fluff recs for 2017.
As the title suggests this list is SUPER subjective. These fics are just such nice, light reads with little to no angst and sometimes you just need something this cute and just good.
Edit: Upon finishing the list I realized that my “reviews” are basically just me gushing about the fic in question. So if you’re expecting to find actual intelligent, technical reviews, you are not going to find those here.
Operation: S.M.W.L.N.T.E.T.H.S.P by XxTheDarkLordxX
Typically, notes from admirers would bring smiles to one’s face or even lift their mood. It might make their day or even their week. It was a sign of a romantic at heart and even considered sweet.
However, Draco Malfoy doesn’t do sweet. If he got one more note saying he looked radiant or beautiful, he was going to kill someone. Literally. His secret admirer better stay a secret before he cursed them into oblivion… right after he figured out how to stop blushing.
This thing right here is so pure and funny The secret admirer notes that Harry sends are so cute and Draco’s reactions to the notes and how they went from “I wanna kill this person.” to “I can’t stop blushing.” is also great. Also they (everyone except Harry, Harry hates it) call it “Operation: Seduce Malfoy With Love Letters To Ensure That Harry Stops Pining” which is kind of hilarious. It was a very fun, light read. 10/10 would recommend.

Having meddling friends that mean well but almost ruin everything for you is a concept that I’m VERY familiar with and it was nice to see that reflected in this. How Draco’s and Harry’s friends worked together to get Drarry to happen was great, although they made it worse than it was before they meddled. Other than their getting together arc, Harry and Draco’s friendship is also very lovely. Read this, do it, it’s great.

“I’m sorry, but this is just crazy.”
You grin at your second oldest son, “And why is me going for a spa weekend crazy?”
Jason scowls, “Not that! You leaving Penelope with Dick! She likes me more.”
From down the hall you hear Dick yell back, “She does not!”
You do your best to hide your chuckle but you don’t quite succeed. Straightening you sling your duffle bag over your shoulder and say, “Dick is in charge because I can trust him to keep the fighting to a minimum. When I come back from this weekend I would like all of my children to be alive and intact without any internal bleeding. And Jason, as much as I love you sweetheart, you like to stir the pot.”
Jason crosses his arms against his chest and asks, “What’s that supposed to mean?”
You grin. “That I know it was you who broke Tim’s computer and not Damian. And that you tricked Tim into thinking it was Damian so that a fistfight would break out in the middle of the New Year’s Gala, so that you could sneak off without anyone noticing. I’m here to tell you that I did notice.”
Jason just shrugs, “Alright so I don’t like Tim and the demon spawn all the time, but I love my sister, and if Dick has her he’s going to invite Barbara over and they’re going to place make believe house, and I’ll die from fluff overload.”
You kiss your son’s cheek, “Then I suggest not stirring the pot next time.”
Without another word you leave the room, a pouting Jason on your heels. You make your way downstairs and let out a sharp whistle. The boys come into the foyer a minute later.
Setting your bag on the floor you lay out the rules. “All right I will be gone a week. This spa I’m going to doesn’t allow electronics, so it is next to impossible to reach me. I’ve left a number to be used in emergencies only. As in the world is ending, not someone stole your poptart. Your dad and Alfred are also out of range. They’re with the League, trying some new physical therapy they’re hoping will help.
“I’ve left Dr. Lee’s number on the fridge, along with Commissioner Gordon’s, who has agreed to make surprise visits to make sure you’re all doing what needs to be done. AND NOT STIRRING THE POT.” Your eyes flicker to Damian and Jason for a minute before you continue, “Also Dick, sweetheart, as much as I love you you’re not in charge.”
You watch your oldest son’s eyes go wide as you reach over and take Penelope from him, as Jason let’s out a sharp laugh. “What, why?”
You smile, “Hun, the minute Barbara comes in you go all love struck, and if you’re focusing on her and Penelope and in Jason’s words ‘Play house’ I fear that the manor would burn down and I do not want to explain that to Alfred.” You ignore Jason’s “Hah!” and keep going, “So I called in the big guns.”
You watch the girl slip out of the shadows without a word. You watch as Damian begins to scowl, not because he’s unhappy but because he hadn’t sensed her. Smiling at your oldest daughter, you give Cass a quick hug before handing Penelope over. The girl takes the infant with a smile. You can’t help but grin at the sight of your two girls.
Picking up your bag you simply say, “Cass has permission to use force if needed. I highly suggest following the rules. Bye kids.” And with a wave you leave.
You slink into the car, and begin your drive. Instead of driving towards a spa you make your way into the city. You head through it straight into the slums. You pull the car up to a less than stellar bar. You park it, grab your bag, and then lock it.
The beep draws more than a little attention. It’s a nice car, a payday kind of car, and had you been anyone else, it probably would have been gone even quicker than Jason could get the tires off the Batmobile.
But you are you, and that’s why when a rather large goon steps in your path, you don’t even hesitate to drop him to the ground. Ruthlessness is prized here. Coldness treasured. Slipping inside the bar you let your new life fade away and slip into your past. It’s comfortable, if not a bit dusty, and as you drop your bag on the ground and it lands with a thud eyes turn towards you, and you meet all of them head on.
Floyd is sitting in the corner of the bar, guns on the table, a smirk on his face. It takes less than a minute for him to stand up and make his way over to you. His arm wraps around your shoulder and says, “Our Baby Girl is back.”
You smile as a cheer goes through the bar, and for the first time in forever your eyes land on your best friends. Harley and Ivy are there, smiling, and slightly behind them, sticking out like a sore thumb is your brother Captain Rick Flagg.
He’s dressed in jeans and a tee-shirt, and looking more uncomfortable than a cat in a dog fight. Your eyes meet his, and he tips his head just a smidge, he’s here for you. They’re all here for you. They might be a bunch of villains but they stick by there own, and make no mistake you are one of them.

So I’ve recently gotten into podcasts and I decided to make a list of all my favorites in order to spread the love.
Welcome to Night Vale: The first podcast everyone listens to. About a small desert community where strange and fantastical things occur on a daily basis. Comedic and introspective with horror elements. And a lot of positive POC, LGBT, and disabled representation (including a lesbian hijabi Muslim!!! A girl in a wheelchair who pulls off a heist!!! A sarcastic, British agender sheriff!!! A little African American girl who reads books and saves an entire town!!!!) 10/10 recommend.
EOS 10: A medical comedy set in in space. Amazing. It takes a few episodes to really get interesting, so if you listen I would suggest listening to at least the fourth episode. Nobody is straight, and it’s wonderful and I would die for each character. Also, Dr. Urvidian. Trust me.
Alice Isn’t Dead: By the some of the same people who did Night Vale. A creepy, haunting story about a woman driving trucks across the country to search for her missing wife. It’s incredibly set up, and so well-written. Warning: some gory imagery and description of murder. Also, WOC protagonist and pretty much all women.
Within the Wires: GUYS. This story was incredible. The format’s really unique: it’s set as a series of relaxation cassettes that slowly reveal the history between the narrator and the listener. It’s GREAT. Seriously, give this one a listen. It’s actually really relaxing between all the bombshells about the plot. It’s also by one of the guys that writes Welcome to Night Vale, so of course it’s gay.
The Penumbra Podcast: This is another one that’s hard to describe, but it’s a collection of stories, a different one every episode. Some are recurring, but some are stand-alone. SUCH amazing representation here, and funny/creepy storylines. There’s a nonbinary bisexual MOC, a Native American wlw BANDIT, a knight with a physical disability, women with actually good characterization, and a lot more. How often do we see that?
The Bright Sessions: Basically superheroes who go to therapy. Good acting, cool storylines, a cute romance. Again, lots of representation. Realistic depictions of mental illness and PTSD. And bisexual, lesbian, gay, and asexual rep!!!
Wolf 359: A story about the crew of a spaceship circling the Wolf 359 star. At first I thought this was a comedy, but it got dark pretty fast. The characterization is great. The story is comedic and gritty and fast-paced, and I would die for Isabelle Lovelace. If you like space shenanigans and found family, this one’s for you.
Kakos Industries: This podcast is hilarious. It takes the format of a corporation’s monthly shareholder announcements. Only this corporation, headed by the legendary Corin Deeth III, helps you “do evil better.” It might disturb you a bit though, so if you don’t like sex jokes, murder, and swearing, stay away from this one.
The Orbiting Human Circus of the Air: A weird little show by Night Vale Presents that’s really hard to describe, but it includes an absolutely wonderful narrator, the cutest protagonist, and amazing side characters. The format’s cool as well, so I recommend giving it a listen. (also the main character’s a mlm!)

Touya breathed in. Dabi breathed out: Let’s reconstruct his death.
[Because we know more than you think.]
Here is the funny thing: At this point we have more information about Toya’s entire childhood, than we have about Hawks’. So let’s be faster than Horikoshi thinks is good for us, and reconstruct it accuratly.
There are three big things to “assume” before I start. First: Dabi is not a Nomu. Second: Dabi is not an undercover hero. (I saw “theories” about this and I won’t waste time by listing up all the reasons this is impossible.)
Third: The “Hawks’s parent was a thief”-theory is true. (Their names are written in the same kanji; There was no need for Ending to mention this name in ch. 250, other than plot-setup; It fits chronologically in both Hawks’ and Endeavor’s history etc.)
So, Let’s tell the story of Todoroki Toya. - For this I elaborated an extreme professional graph:
Looking at the dates and following the canon rhythm of all Todoroki siblings being around 3 years apart, Dabi is currently 26.
In the picture of his shrine, he wears a traditional middle-school uniform, which means he “died” between age 14 and 16. This perfectly fits in line with the information we got from Fuyumi, which told us that Toya died, shortly after Rei left the house respectively after Shoto got his scar. (Meaning, we talk about a time-frame in which the Todoroki-children were left ‘alone’ with Endeavor.)
His scars are neat and symmetrical, which means Dabi’s scars are self-inflicted. The placing of Dabi’s facial scars perfectly matches the locations of Endeavors flame-beard, which means he tried to copy Endeavor’s looks.
We know that Endeavor stopped training Toya to focus on Shoto. (Because Toya was allowed to play with his siblings, while Shoto was dragged away. Toya had to be 12 - 14 when we saw him playing soccer with them in ch. 39.) So Toya lived at home before he died.
[We know the hard trainings-program of the HPSC would not allow many breaks to play with siblings at home. We know from Natsuo (in ch. 250) that Toya often (!) played with him. The HPSC would also have informations about a unforgettable quirk like his, if they had any conection with his “death”.]
This hilariously sad, because it means: Toyas death was not a trainings-incident inflicted by Endeavor nor was it inflicted by the HPSC!
Toya Todoroki died because of something he did himself. (Every clue points towards this and I can’t believe how many people get this wrong when theorizing.)
But this is where the thrill starts: Because we also know that Toya cared for his siblings…
And to tell you my own bloody theory: Toya wanted to proof that he wasn’t a “failure” and he wanted to protect tiny Shoto from the painful training. So he tried to impress Endeavor by teaching himself how to use fire like him - and he forced himself to handle the pain. But the flames where too hot and Toya set a huge fire. Seriously injured, in fear, shame and rage he run away from home. Since the fire had destroyed the surroundings, his family thought his body got incinerated within and declared him dead.
And Dabi was born.
…So is there anything more to think ab-
“Yeah Sherlock- How the fuck does Dabi know Hawks’ real name?”, a rhetorical (and a little rude) reader might ask.
Great question! To be honest, I’m just as confused as Hawks. (But before you throw your tomatoes, let’s see if we can change that:)
First of all, I’ll assume Dabi didn’t pay black hats to hack into the database of the Hero Public Safety Commision, because firstly, this would make his persona completly non-essential to this knowledge - and secondly, they litterally have “Safety” in their name - So I’ll fucking hope their firewalls are… hot.
From a writing point of view it makes way more sense that Hawks shared his name with Toya Todoroki in person.
So let’s look at Hawks’ life in the graph. Hawks was born in Fukuoka, which is a five-hour-ride away from the Todoroki’s mansion in Mustafu. Tiny Hawks spent his first years of life in a dumpster. (”Ah, pardon, Sir. My bad, I failed to see the floor, because of the trash piles NEXT TO YOUR FUCKING CHIL-!”)
However there are two possibilitys:
1.: Keigo and Toya met in the HPSC in Mustafu.
If this is true, it probably happened in the (2 - 4 year) timeframe after Hawks got scouted and before Shoto got his “perfect” quirk, where Endeavor found himself still enraged about Toya’s “wasted-potential”. So forced Toya to train with the “government-kid” (…which was a prodigy in contrast to his own “failure of a son”.)
In this scenario, Hawks broke the rule of “never using his real name again” and told Toya during the match. Back then Hawks was only around 6 - 8 years old, so its plausible for him not to remember Toya’s face well. … But on the other Hand: If Toya had ever participated in the HPSC-training, the Comission would have informations about him and his unforgetable quirk. Its unlikely that they wouldn’t recognize Dabi’s describtion in their data base.]
2.: Keigo and Toya met in Kyushu in autumn.
We know Endeavor captured “Takami”, before Keigo was recruited and forbidden to use his name.
We know it happened in autumn and we can assume Keigo was younger than seven years. There are many possibilitys- Maybe the thief Takami exploited Keigo’s quirk for criminal activitys and that is the reason Keigo was so skilled at a young age. Maybe Toya was with his father that day…
- But at this point it feels like throwing stones in the dark: Eventually we will hit something, but it might be fucking bruised.
Or what do you think? Did I make a horrible mistake somewhere up there?
Either way- I’m hyped to get more content to analyze, so I can keep ignoring my homework during quarantine.

Having a strict boss wasn’t always a bad thing. It meant she knew the ins and outs of the industry well, and didn’t mind putting up a fuss when the government research lab in Tokyo tried to deny you a temporary transfer to their facility. Not only were you more than qualified to work there, you had also received a special recommendation from the number two hero in Japan. After a few strongly worded emails, the tenacious woman had bought you two full weeks in the lab that kept the captured nomus. You were extremely grateful since your original plan was to just try and take a weekend trip out there. After the two weeks were over and you finally returned, it was with an overwhelming amount of new information to process. You’d only ever seen the nomus on news broadcasts, so getting to study them up close and read through some of the private information that had been gathered on them was a huge deal.
