just picture mike getting vecna’d and he needs to run and hide in his happy memories. he expects maybe to find the time he rode his bike without training wheels for the first time, or when he became the party’s DM for the first time. kissing el for the first time surely must be there, right?

but the memories mike keeps running into are those with will in it. their sleepovers, that time at the swings where it all started, when they found will and brought him back from the upside down, when they promised to go crazy together.

and then, it just clicks for mike. he comes face to face with the feelings he’s been trying to push down his throat ever since will left to lenora. and fear pours down on mike like a bucket of freezing water, because this means that he, mike wheeler, is in love with his best friend. with a boy.

worst of all, now vecna can smell that fear.

I hate how much everyone forgets that he’s severely traumatized too and that’s why he acts how he does cuz he doesn’t know how to cope with his trauma and being gay, he’s also been through an a insane amount of shit for all this starting when he was 10-11.

Once stranger things has finished I need a documentary about the behind the scenes and the storyline of it to shut up all the homophobic fans who think Mike would never like will or that he's "definitely straight". I need them to prove they've been planning byler for years now.

I fear media literacy is dead because I can tell Mike wheeler is very queer coded, but it's like unless Mike states outright he's gay, it means he's straight and wills just gonna end up heartbroken.

Which is another thing! Why would a TV show about the freaks of society being normal and allowed to be happy exploring and sharing who they are, allow will to have such a sucky ass ending. Wills literally the main character and ur telling me the duffers would happily leave him to have no relationship with the boy he's been in love with whilst said boy goes on to create the typical white American family with el?? NO, IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE! and even if they did add a new character for Will to be in a relationship with (e.g. chance) it would still not make sense!! Even Robin got last season to build up a relationship for her but for will he just gets thrown with a random guy and gets over Mike within a season? No!!!!

El also doesn't deserve that ending. Her whole life, she was brought up in a lab with the only "love" being given was from brenner to his favourite weapon. Then she meets Mike and the gang (who btw, gets asked if he's going to be her brother, very weird way to start off a relationship that's supposedly endgame) in which we find she doesn't even know what a friend is! She gets thrown into a relationship that she doesn't understand because she's never experienced love, let alone anything romantically and doesn't even know what being in a relationship means because Mike never treats it like a proper relationship! All they do it kiss in hoppers cabin, never going on dates, as far as were aware but if they were gonna be endgame you'd think we'd see thay part/them being happy doing something other than kissing. And then we finally see El living her best life when she becomes friends with Max and dumps Mike because she is finally free to do what she wants. Mike is a horrible boyfriend to el in both season 3 and 4, so I don't get why milevens want their relationship so bad. I genuinely can't think of any moment where I was rooting for them because they're so toxic for each other. A relationship in which el feels the need to lie about basically everything happening in california (to do with her) to Mike is not healthy in any shape of form.

This turned into a longer rant than I was expecting but I kept writing lmao. I'm also on summer break from uni so I have a lot of time to put my thoughts together and stranger things and byler.

i'm soo glad that it's noah and finn playing will and mike, like we have a gay man and a professional boykisser for season 5 byler.

Daily reminder that the California plot served very little use apart from furthering Mike and Will's relationship! This would be bad (or at least weird) writing if their relationship isn't/isn't going to be important.

The thing is, M*leven could have been really cute. I like almost all of the straight ships in the show, and they could have written Mike and El similarly. Their romance could have progressed over multiple seasons, everyone would have liked it. Something like Jopper or Jancy.

But they didn't do that. M*leven is written entirely differently from all the other couples. They're rarely teamed up, their break-up is framed as happy, their conflicts seem trivial and easily solvable. They're not themselves around each other, they lie and miscommunicate. El's arc is centred around finding herself and being independent, and Mike needs to be loved and appreciated. They're clearly not meant for each other, and this is intentional.

Why would they be written entirely differently from every other couple if they're intended to be endgame?

I SOOOO HOPE that the scene noah made the duffers write is some sort of scene that is between robin and will and it’s them having a heart to heart about what it’s like feeling different and being gay, and especially having the show set in the 80s i feel like that would be so important

also, noah being a gay man makes me feel like the duffers would definitely take his opinion into consideration as what it would be like, and allow him to incorporate it into his character and write a scene like that
