crazy to realise... beating 1989
This had me fucking screaming at 2 am
I wrote the Exile > MTR > Happiness anon and would like to elaborate/clarify what I meant as I was rushing when I sent the original anon. All my opinion of course (so no disrespect to anyone).
Taylor said the focus of folklore was the love triangle between Betty/James/Inez and that evermore was the sister albumāboth albums are telling that entire story. So because of this, I think you have to really listen between the lines.
I never said Karlie and Taylor have āseen each other out recentlyā nor am I saying that they broke up (theyāve shown VERY recently that they havenāt). Iām saying that these three songs are about someone she broke up with *before* she started dating Karlie. Exile is about finally leaving a toxic relationship. Why would Scott care if he saw her in a picture with her arms around someone else laughing? Why would he tell her it took her five whole minutes to be in someone elseās arms after theyād just had a fight (for example)?
MTR is the conversation after the breakup in Exile. āYou had to kill me, but it killed you just the sameāit had to end even though neither person wanted it to. It hurt her to leave and it hurt the other person to watch her leave.
āHear my stolen lullabiesā is a metaphor for hearing her voice, not her literal songs. Her voice haunting this person, even though sheās not there. Her screaming at the sky because the other person isnāt there so she has no one to talk to. They gather stones never knowing what they meanāsome to throw (pick a fight), some to make a diamond ring. They donāt know if itās gonna be love or war. Like in tolerate it when she says āI greet you with a battle heroās welcomeā. When someone comes home from war, you donāt know what version of that person youāre going to get. Also, what exactly would Scott be giving her a diamond ring for?
āI can go anywhere I want just not homeāāshe can go anywhere but home because she canāt be around or face the person she just left in Exile. Just like in Happiness, when she says āI pulled your body into mine very gādamn night, now I canāt fake nicetiesāāshe canāt be ājust friendsā with this person after something like that (sleeping together). Champagne Problemsāhow evergreen our group of friendsā¦donāt think weāll say that word again .
She accepts the end of *that* relationship in āHappiness and chooses to be happy. There is happiness (with Karlie) AFTER that previous relationship and thereās also happiness BECAUSE of that person/relationship. Had she not left that situation (as much as she may not have wanted to..as thatās the price she paid) she wouldnāt be in the one she is nowā7 years of heaven. How even across their āgreat divideā or breakup, there was a bright spotāa glorious sunrise (from St. Louis). Dappled in flickers of light from the dress she wore at midnight (she was buried in that dress in the LWYMMD videoā¦which she wore to the 2014 Met Gala that she and Karlie attended). She left it all behind for happiness.
Itās time to go is knowing when to leave a generally toxic situation whether itās a job, romantic or platonic relationship. When youāre at a job for 20 years and you donāt get the promotion, the bossā son does. When you notice your partner look at another person a certain way, not as friends even though they say otherwise, you have that gut feelingā¦
ā¦or when you expect something different from your partner and itās the same thing over and over and youāre lost again with no surprises, only disappointmentsā¦
and finally, when youāve been asking to own your work for years only to be shot down every single time and have them sold to someone else out of spite. <āthis is why I said this was a Scott song because it references her old label drama.
You are welcome to believe this. But, also, see this article:
Taylor Swift says dispute with Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun felt like divorce
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the Grammy-winning pop behemoth confirmed that songs "My Tears Ricochet" and "Mad Woman" were inspired by her former Big Machine label boss Scott Borchetta and music industry bigwig Scooter Braun.
i just canāt get over it
Taylor & Karlie backstage at the 2013 Victoriaās Secret Fashion Show
Anyone that doesnāt think This Is What You Came for is about Taylor or is at least Taylor inspired, can fight me.
There is something about this song that is actually really intimate, even though itās this massive dance hit. Itās about this girl that literal has this electricity about her. She has this thing that draws people to her, sheās this force of energy that everyone canāt ignore. And yet, even when sheās surrounded by people who canāt take their eyes off her she chose āYOUā. This girl that is so unbelievably powerful and forceful is directing that energy at one person. āBut sheās looking at youā just makes me feel like the person singing it/writing it can not believe that someone like that is looking at them.
But then the next verse is this insane moment where they clearly find their chemistry. They know itās all moving really fast, theyāve barely talked, but they donāt need to because their connection is unspoken. Itās tangible. So they donāt need to waste time āplaying gamesā or getting to know each other.
The entire song is about having an electric chemistry with someone. Something that you canāt hold back, and that everyone can see, but you literally donāt care because āThis is What You Came Forā. Itās all about chemistry and fate. Being in the right place, at the right time, with the right person.
6 years of 1989 / october 27, 2014 - october 27, 2020
we begin our story in new york. there once was a girl known by everyone and no one. her heart belonged to someone who couldnāt stay. they loved each other recklessly. they paid the price. she danced to forget him. he drove past her street each night. she made friends and enemies. he only saw her in his dreams. then, one day, he came back. timing is a funny thing, and everyone was watching. she lost him, but she found herself and somehow ... that was EVERYTHING.
Donāt worry Bro , Black Tumblr got you and your Sister.āšæ
Can we find her a donor please āšæššæ
okay friends -Ā Iāve been putting off making this post since evermore came out, but i think the time has come. I think, that in the same way weāve gotten kaylor clues for years, weāve now also gotten clues about their break up. I donāt think this means that theyāre over forever, necessarily, but it does seem like things arenāt good right now and their dynamic has changed significantly.
1 - unlike lover and folklore we did not get a teaser from karlie for evermore. For the Lover announcement we got a Karlie count down that you can see here. Then, KarlieāsĀ last post before the Lover release looked suspiciously like the album cover:
it was even MORE obvious with folklore - where she posts a video of her dancing in the woods in a cardigan 13 days before the folklore release (remember - literally no one knows this album is going to drop!!!)
AND karlie posted this other tribute to the album the day that it was released.
However, when evermore was released we didnāt get any indication or tribute from Karlie. She was in the midst of her Adidas drop and all of her posts were promo for that.
2 - Taytaysbeard (the ultimate kaylor blog) was deleted. This comes as a HUGE red flag to me. Yes, there were haters, who likely were reporting ttb and being ridiculous - but the haters were always there. it was a big red flag to me that ttb got shutdown two days before evermore came out because a) there had never been a problem before that - why bother shutting it down now? what changed?and b) I think that the album evermore was so obviously queer that their teams knew if people could go on the internet and find such a large, informative resource that it would out both of them, so they needed to erase it.
3 - Almost all of the songs on evermore are about divorce or not being with the person you love. Weāve always said the the truth is in the music - and this is a very very sad break-up album. Itās been so easy to do analysis because I feel like what shes trying to say is so clear. The only song that is not explicitly about a divorce/break-up is long story short, but even that is about a whole bunch of break-ups until the post-chorus and bridge.
4 - this one kills me. I will be doing full analysis on both these songs later - but the album name in and of itself is letting us know that it is the end of the road with karlie. taylor has used the word evermore once before in a song - in New Years day. this song is a clear kaylor song - reference to the polaroids, talking about the pages of a love story like in Cornelia street, and the general concept of being there even when theyāre being normal people, not celebs.Ā
In NYD she saysĀ āCandle wax and Polaroids on the hardwood floor/You and me forevermoreā - yet this could be re-read asĀ āyou and me for evermoreā. This is so devastating, because in the first reading (the original intention), Taylor is saying that her and karlie will be together forever. however, in the second reading, Taylor is saying that her and karlie were together until the album evermore came out. this is so sad and beautiful and genius!
