Me, reading over my translation of Confession for a White Crow again: Man, Naru really doesn’t sound like a 12 year old kid in this, maybe I should fix it...
*looks at the original Japanese* ...12 year old Naru is speaking really damn formally in this scene. He does not! sound! like a kid! o_o It’s kinda scary actually?! Imagine this kid barely speaking for over a year and then he opens his mouth and out spews this stuff!
Anyway, good job past me, I guess?
How could she be able to keep his location a secret for so long?
It had been 10 years since Kogami left.
It was really irking Ginoza Nobichika to no end that his former partner wouldn’t tell him where his best friend was.
She would leave for a few days every year, off to wherever Kogami was. They would spend alone time and -ahem- reconnect with each other after their time apart.
No one really suspected anything until she came back after the second year they had started to meet up. They had been careless. Akane was pregnant, and she had no explanation of who the father of the child could be.
Of course Gino knew. It was too obvious to him. Yayoi stayed out of it because she knew it was none of her business what her boss did on her days off. Mika had been a little overwhelmed taking control of Division One during Akane’s maternal leave. But in the end, they made it through. A baby girl named Ayaka made her way in to the world and things began to settle down.
Akane still took time off to go and meet up with Kogami on her own. She would leave her daughter with the only person she knew she could trust, and come back home as if she had just taken a business trip. Inspector Tsunemori only admitted what she had been doing after she had become pregnant again. Gino was livid, but he promised not to tell anyone.
Everything was fine for a while after she had her son, Shou. They grew up as well as any child could coming in and out of the department on a daily basis. Ayaka had a really sharp mind because of it.
Kogami was definitely aware of the fact that he was a father, and after Shou was born he and Akane agreed that they would be extra careful from then on.
Ayaka and Shou had never met their father, and it wasn’t until Shou had turned five that he asked about him for real. Eight year old Ayaka had already heard about him from the times she asked her mother and Uncle Gino about where he was. She was used to it just being the three of them.
They were sitting down eating dinner one night when Shou spoke up.
“Mama, did you know that babies are made because mommies and daddies love each other?”
“Yes, sweetie, I did.” Akane nodded as she took a bite of her food.
“So, you and my daddy love each other, don’t you?”
“Of course.”
“Then why don’t me and sis have a little brother?”
Akane began to choke at this question. After coughing it out and regaining her composure, she turned to her son.
“Shou… Where is all of this coming from?”
Shou sighed and looked seriously at his mother with the same gray eyes his father passed on to him.
“My friend from school said that his mama and daddy are going to have a new baby. He said that it’s because his daddy lives with them that they love each other. He also said that my daddy doesn’t love me as much as his daddy loves him because my daddy doesn’t live with us.”
“Oh, Shou.” Akane smiled and ruffled the small boy’s brown hair. “Your daddy loves us. He’s just got a lot of busy work that he has to do to save the world. That’s why he doesn’t come home.”
“But how was Shou made, mama?” Ayaka asked after quietly observing their conversation.
“Well… When a mommy and a daddy love each other a lot they-”
“Because my friend said that her mommy and daddy had sex.”
Akane gaped at her eight year old daughter, surprised at the words that she spoke.
“Well, it’s true, right?” She looked up, giving her a serious look.
“What’s sex?” Shou asked his big sister.
“Hey, Shou… Why don’t you go and check to make sure Uncle Gino has had dinner?”
“Okay, mama!” He grinned, forgetting his question, and went to go and call his favorite babysitter.
“Ayaka… Do you know what sex is?” Akane carefully made her voice sound steady as she asked her question.
“It’s when a mama and a papa get naked and wrestle each other around until they get tired.” Ayaka answered, sounding annoyed. “You know that, mama. You and papa do it when you see each other.”
Akane’s face became red from embarrassment. How did her daughter know this much?
“At least, that’s what I heard miss Karanomori talking about. She was using words that I didn’t know, though.” She casually took a sip of her water. “So, I asked Uncle Gino.”
“And what did he tell you?”
“The same crap you were going to say.” She answered in the same blunt way that Kogami would have. “So, I asked my friend in grade three what it meant. She showed me some pictures she found on her tablet and told me.”
“Uh huh… So is there anything else your friend told you?”
“The tooth fairy isn’t real.” Ayaka looked at her mother and stood. “I’m still asking about Santa, but no one knows the truth about that fat man.”
Akane pursed her lips together, trying not to laugh at the seriousness in her child’s voice that reminded her so much of her lover.
“Do YOU know the truth?” She put her hands on her hips and narrowed her eyes.
“Sybil never catches him on the scanners or anything, but I hear his Psychopass is clearer than anyone I know of.” Akane said. “But we still need to get more evidence.”
“I’ll get it…” Ayaka quietly said to herself, not knowing Akane heard her. She turned and walked away, deep in thought, and left the sex talk with her mother. She had more important things to research.
Later that night, Kogami called Akane.
“Inspector Tsunemori here.” She answered like normal.
“Hey you.”
“Oh. Hey.” Akane answered, looking around to make sure that the kids were sound asleep. She quietly slipped out of the room so she and her former subordinate could speak more freely.
“What are you wearing?” Kogami joked, causing Akane to laugh.
“I miss that laugh.” His gruff voice spoke on the other end of their connection.
“We all miss you…” Akane whispered.
There was a long silence before Kogami spoke again.
“So… How are the kids?”
“We had quite an interesting conversation tonight, actually.” Akane chuckled to herself, going back to what her daughter had said.
“Oh? What about?”
“Well, our son asked about babies being made.”
“No way!” Kogami laughed. “What did you say?”
“I didn’t have time to really say anything. Aya started talking about sex.”
“… What?”
“She said that she had heard Shion talking about us having sex. So she had done research and asked Gino, who gave her an answer she wouldn’t accept.” Akane explained.
“And…?”
“She asked an older friend at school, who happened to have pictures.”
“Ugh. Oh god.” Kogami sighed. “So, what did you do?”
“I asked her about it… And all she really knows is that you get naked and wrestle around.”
Kogami began to laugh. “I was afraid you were going to say that she actually knew what an org-“
“Kogami!” Akane cut him off.
“Yeah, yeah.” He snickered. “You were saying.”
“Anyway… I think we have a future inspector on our hands.”
“Oh really?”
“She’s as relentless as you. She won’t stop looking until she gets an answer.”
“That sounds like you. You found me, didn’t you?”
“Yeah… I guess so.”
“Don’t give me all of the credit, Akane. You’re doing such a damn good job raising our kids.” Kogami reassured her. “I promise I will find my way around the System so I can be with you. Okay?”
“Okay.”
“I have to go now. I’ll talk to you soon. Don’t go wrestling naked men unless they’re me, Inspector.” He chuckled.
“Very funny.” Akane rolled her eyes.
“Hey… It’s midnight.” Kogami noted. “We get to see each other sooner this year, so try to hold on a little longer.”
“You’re right.” Akane smiled to herself. “Happy new year, Shinya.”
“Happy new year, Akane.”

Hello lovely, Lily! I’m sorry that you were the one ghosted this year. I thought about continuing Quality Ingredients (I swear I will some day), but nothing was coming out for that and instead this did. In a way it’s kind of a spiritual successor to that and A Small Reprieve (where the OC in this came from), But it’s also it’s own thing. It mostly came from your comment about how Naru deserves to be happy. I agree whole-heartedly. I hope you like this!
Naru knew something was up the moment he opened the front door.
It was just him and Ellen this Month. Mai had some business back in Japan and they’d decided it was better for the two of them to stay behind. It was the start of Ellen’s ninth grade year and Naru had work he still had to attend to at the main SPR office. It only made sense for the two of them to stick it out until she came home.
Currently, they were almost three weeks in, and they’d established a system. Unless Ellen wanted to hang out at a friend’s house, she would come home and work on homework until Naru came home with dinner. Occasionally, his mother and father came over to cook, but that was only about once a week. Otherwise, it’s easy, familiar, and routine.
Until today.
It had been a rough day at the office. One of their investors wasn’t happy with the results of one of the most recent cases coming out of the Japan office. It had taken far too much of his day calming the man down so that he wouldn’t pull his funding. Between the amount of time it took and just how demanding the man was, Naru was ready to call it a day.
But, as he entered the house, he gave pause. It smelled as though something were burning. Thinking the worst, he immediately dropped everything and ran into the kitchen. As he crossed the threshold he found Ellen, in tears, looking dejectedly into a baking dish.

How do we get information from missions exploring the cosmos back to humans on Earth? Our space communications and navigation networks – the Near Space Network and the Deep Space Network – bring back science and exploration data daily.
Here are a few of our favorite moments from 2024.
The stars above and on Earth aligned as lyrics from the song “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)” by hip-hop artist Missy Elliott were beamed to Venus via NASA’s Deep Space Network. Using a 34-meter (112-foot) wide Deep Space Station 13 (DSS-13) radio dish antenna, located at the network’s Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex in California, the song was sent at 10:05 a.m. PDT on Friday, July 12 and traveled about 158 million miles from Earth to Venus — the artist’s favorite planet. Coincidentally, the DSS-13 that sent the transmission is also nicknamed Venus!
NASA's PACE mission transmitting data to Earth through NASA's Near Space Network.
Our Near Space Network, which supports communications for space-based missions within 1.2 million miles of Earth, is constantly enhancing its capabilities to support science and exploration missions. Last year, the network implemented DTN (Delay/Disruption Tolerant Networking), which provides robust protection of data traveling from extreme distances. NASA’s PACE (Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, ocean Ecosystem) mission is the first operational science mission to leverage the network’s DTN capabilities. Since PACE’s launch, over 17 million bundles of data have been transmitted by the satellite and received by the network’s ground station.
A collage of the pet photos sent over laser links from Earth to LCRD and finally to ILLUMA-T (Integrated LCRD Low Earth Orbit User Modem and Amplifier Terminal) on the International Space Station. Animals submitted include cats, dogs, birds, chickens, cows, snakes, and pigs.
Last year, we transmitted hundreds of pet photos and videos to the International Space Station, showcasing how laser communications can send more data at once than traditional methods. Imagery of cherished pets gathered from NASA astronauts and agency employees flowed from the mission ops center to the optical ground stations and then to the in-space Laser Communications Relay Demonstration (LCRD), which relayed the signal to a payload on the space station. This activity demonstrated how laser communications and high-rate DTN can benefit human spaceflight missions.
4K video footage was routed from the PC-12 aircraft to an optical ground station in Cleveland. From there, it was sent over an Earth-based network to NASA’s White Sands Test Facility in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The signals were then sent to NASA’s Laser Communications Relay Demonstration spacecraft and relayed to the ILLUMA-T payload on the International Space Station.
A team of engineers transmitted 4K video footage from an aircraft to the International Space Station and back using laser communication signals. Historically, we have relied on radio waves to send information to and from space. Laser communications use infrared light to transmit 10 to 100 times more data than radio frequency systems. The flight tests were part of an agency initiative to stream high-bandwidth video and other data from deep space, enabling future human missions beyond low-Earth orbit.
The Near Space Network provides missions within 1.2 million miles of Earth with communications and navigation services.
At the very end of 2024, the Near Space Network announced multiple contract awards to enhance the network’s services portfolio. The network, which uses a blend of government and commercial assets to get data to and from spacecraft, will be able to support more missions observing our Earth and exploring the cosmos. These commercial assets, alongside the existing network, will also play a critical role in our Artemis campaign, which calls for long-term exploration of the Moon.
On Monday, Oct. 14, 2024, at 12:06 p.m. EDT, a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket carrying NASA’s Europa Clipper spacecraft lifts off from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
Together, the Near Space Network and the Deep Space Network supported the launch of Europa Clipper. The Near Space Network provided communications and navigation services to SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket, which launched this Jupiter-bound mission into space! After vehicle separation, the Deep Space Network acquired Europa Clipper’s signal and began full mission support. This is another example of how these networks work together seamlessly to ensure critical mission success.
Engineer Adam Gannon works on the development of Cognitive Engine-1 in the Cognitive Communications Lab at NASA’s Glenn Research Center.
Our Technology Education Satellite program organizes collaborative missions that pair university students with researchers to evaluate how new technologies work on small satellites, also known as CubeSats. In 2024, cognitive communications technology, designed to enable autonomous space communications systems, was successfully tested in space on the Technology Educational Satellite 11 mission. Autonomous systems use technology reactive to their environment to implement updates during a spaceflight mission without needing human interaction post-launch.
A first: All six radio frequency antennas at the Madrid Deep Space Communication Complex, part of NASA’s Deep Space Network (DSN), carried out a test to receive data from the agency’s Voyager 1 spacecraft at the same time.
On April 20, 2024, all six radio frequency antennas at the Madrid Deep Space Communication Complex, part of our Deep Space Network, carried out a test to receive data from the agency’s Voyager 1 spacecraft at the same time. Combining the antennas’ receiving power, or arraying, lets the network collect the very faint signals from faraway spacecraft.

Last week Shiho Inada posted this new illustration on her locked account… and today she uploaded a new comic! But to get the joke behind it you’ll have to see this popular sketch by Japanese comedian Buruzon Chiemi: “Career Woman”. It’s a parody on a sassy career woman.
Original video with subtitles
English version of the skit
In a previous comic, Eugene made a prank video of him singing Piko Taro’s PPAP, while pretending to be Noll (who got very angry), and now…
Gene: Every day you work desperately to hunt ghosts, but it’s still okay if you don’t rush yourself that much.
Do you know how many ghosts there are on Earth?
Noll (thinking): He learned something weird again…
Gene: 3.5 BILLION… and 50 million more*.
This is Buruzon Eugene with Li… – Wait a minute! Lin! Didn’t I tell you to stand behind me!
Lin (with 3.5 billion on his back): I properly declined, didn’t I?
Noll (turns around): And? Will you tell me the grounds of your argument of there being 3.5 billion and 50 million spirits?
Gene: Ah! It’s not like that, this is really popular right now!
Lin, help meee!
* The 50 million refers to the uneven ratio of males to females in the world.

Hi again. Thanks for answering my previous question! I have another one- I’m thinking of doing Nanowrimo again this year. I tried in the past as a “pantser” but it didn’t really work, so I’m trying to prep a little before November so that I can be ready by the 1st day. What sort of stuff about my story I should know/have ready to start writing on day 1? (I looked at your nanowrimo tag and saw knowing the general story/where it’s going/ending but do I need to plan by chapters? Or have worldbuilding all figured out? Etc)
If you’re doing NaNoWriMo this year, you still have a couple days to do some prep work so you’ll be ready to go on November 1st. Here are some things you might find helpful as you begin writing your novel:
1) In-Depth Plot Summary - If you’re a planner, plantser, or think you might be, a beginning to end summary of all the important events in your story is the bare minimum you should have when you start writing on November 1st.
Basic Story Structure
Guide: Filling in the Story Between Known Events
How to Move a Story Forward
2) Basic Character Sheets - Some character sheets go too far into details that aren’t important to the story, but it can be helpful to have the bare essentials fleshed out and organized.
Character Design Sheet: The Necessary Stuff
Fleshing Out Characters
Guide: Casting Your Characters
3) Scene List - In my opinion, this is one of the most important things you can have if you’re a planner and you need help staying on track. This is essentially a list of every scene in your story, from beginning to end. Sit down with your in-depth summary and figure out what your first scene is. Then figure out the second scene. Then figure out the third scene.... and so on. It doesn’t have to be perfect. You may have scenes where you write something like “she meets Greg somehow” or “some kind of party?” You may even have question marks in a few spots. That’s fine. The key is to know what most of the scenes are, and this isn’t written in stone. You may find better scenes occurring as you write, or you may delete scenes or move them around.
Scene Lists
4) Basic Setting Details - With your summary and scene list in hand, you should have a pretty good idea of the needs of your story as far as the setting goes. What parts of your story’s world are important to the story? Look at each scene and consider where it takes place. What do you need to know about the setting before you write? You might just need some keywords like “run down high school gymnasium” or you might do a floor plan, map, or look for real world places to serve as inspiration.
Five Things to Help You Describe Fictional Locations
Figuring Out Your World’s Geography
Setting Your Story in an Unfamiliar Place
5) Basic World Building Details - Again, looking at the scenes in your story, consider what’s important for you to know. Don’t worry about the kinds of animals and plants in the forest bordering your character’s village unless those details are important to the story.

Kinda surprised no one’s done this one yet, but could we get some cuddling hcs for the brothers (+undateables if you’re feeling like it lol)
I think it hasn’t been done cuz I write a lot of cuddling shit for them already like this one and sorta this one but yeah I’ll write it up still, just don’t expect it to be too long lmao 🤣

Surprisingly, he’s really comforting to be around and makes sure you’re comfy throughout the cuddle sesh
Wraps his arms around your waist and pulls you closer to him
Kisses your head and ear, smiling into your neck and rubbing his nose on your skin
Weirdly cuddly at around 2AM so expect lots of affection
Whispers ‘I love you’ pretty often
Puts his hands underneath your shirt and hugs your belly
He’s such a whiner at first but god, if he isn’t the best company you’ll ever have
Cuddles you close to him, holding you and protecting you
Wraps his legs around yours because his feet and legs get chilly

Blushes and holds you tighter when you turn around to kiss him and tell him you love him
Strokes your hand and entwines your fingers with his while you cuddle
He’s so awkward but he’s nice and warm and a comfort to be around
Likes being the little spoon sometimes so you can play with his hair and kiss his head
When he’s not being little spoon, he’s holding your waist and squeezing you gently
Plays with your thighs a lot
Waits for you to say ‘I love you’ first then doesn’t stop telling you it the rest of the night
He often watches anime with you cuddled up to him if it starts to feel awkward for him
He likes you facing him when he’s cuddling so he can kiss your face easier
Has his hands pressed to your back, holding you protectively
Lots of kisses and displays of affection, he tends to not hold back

He’s such a great cuddler, you may never want to leave
Slips his knee between your legs and pulls you ridiculously close to his chest
Holds your head and strokes your hair, kissing you occasionally
Twirls your hair around his finger, humming to you and telling you how much he loves you over and over
Rests his hands on your bare stomach underneath your clothes
Will tell you to say ‘I love you’ to him and then smile like an idiot after
Acts as your pillow most the time and he’s a damn good pillow indeed
Places your head on his chest and lays you there, enjoying the feel of your body on his
Wraps his arm around you so you’re warm and safe in his embrace and feeds you midnight snacks if you wanted any

Plays with your fingers
Big guy loves cuddles, he’ll give you the best cuddles honestly
Wraps his arms around you, pulling you closer to whisper sweet nothings in your ear

Sometimes pulls you to face him so he can stroke your head
When you face him, he cuddles into your chest and kisses your jaw
Has his hands always placed on your lower back, sketching shapes and patterns
Smiles with bright red cheeks when you say ‘I love you’
He’s such a comforting presence, he’ll make sure you’re loved in the cuddle sesh
Doesn’t exactly press you against him but he’ll make sure your skins lightly touching his

Sometimes he likes when you face him so he can kiss your forehead and mess with your hair
Trails his thumb over your knuckles and kisses them gently after
I performed my first ever CPR on a dummy this week! *u* I couldn’t stop grinning during the lecture and demo; I never expected I’d be putting to good use my research for this part in my WIP (which was based from this prompt list) one year later. XD Since I’m not sure I’ll ever finish it, might as well post this draft to commemorate a successful CPR return demo~
11. With a shuddering gasp
It’ll be fine, Mai.
“…Twenty-six. Twenty-seven. Twenty-eight. Twenty-nine. Thirty.”
You trained for this. Got certified specifically for this.
Head tilt-chin lift.
And the ambulance is en route.
Rescue breathing: first rescue breath. Naru’s chest rose. Second rescue breath.
“One. Two. Three. Four. Five. I threw a wish in the well. Don’t ask me I’ll never tell…” Mai hummed to keep the beat. “…Twenty-six. Twenty-seven. Twenty-eight. Twenty-nine. Thirty.”
Head tilt-chin lift.
First rescue breath. Second rescue breath.
She maintained the pacing, cycle after cycle.
Back when she was training to get certified for occupational first aid, her trainers had enumerated only three valid reasons to stop CPR: when the ambulance arrives, when the person wakes up, or when the first responder can no longer continue.
Mai heavily banked on either of the first two options because the third one was absolutely not an option right now.
Twenty-six. Twenty-seven. Twenty-eight. Twenty-nine. Thirty.
Head tilt-chin lift.
First rescue breath. Second rescue breath.
Naru had always had the perfect timing when fainting from using his PK on his own. Like during Chiaki-senpai’s case. Or the Yoshimi case. This time, his body—his heart and lungs, to be specific—chose to stop working in a traditional house on the outskirts of Kyoto. Unequipped with an automated external defibrillator. In the middle of rush hour.
Though she wanted to cry her frustration out, she’d really rather use that energy to revive. This. Idiot. Twenty-nine. Thirty.
And once he was revived…
What then?
Head tilt-chin lift.
First rescue breath. Second rescue breath.
Naru let out a shuddering gasp.
Everyone released the collective breath they’d been holding. While Lin-san kept Naru reclined on his side and Mai monitored him, the rest of SPR burst into action: Ayako called the nearest hospital for updates on the ambulance; Bou-san and John concluded the investigation; Masako and Yasu updated the clients of Naru’s status.
Mai observed him. His chest rose and fell in erratic rhythm, and his pulse tapped weakly against her finger. But a breath and a pulse—those were all she needed to be assured of his survival.
Adrenaline released its hold on her, and she allowed herself to slump sideward in exhaustion.
Lin-san started. “Taniyama-san!”
“I’m fine, Lin-san,” she said, her attention never straying from Naru. He was just a few inches from her now. So close.
As she stared at his pallid face, the silent question returned: Once Naru revived, what would she do?
His eyes fluttered open and gradually focused on hers.
“Naru.”
Once he revived…
I’ll spend the rest of my life by his side, even if that meant being his assistant forever.
She held his gaze, unheeding of the crescendo of sirens announcing the ambulance’s arrival.
Even if she couldn’t take his breath away, she damn well could return it to him.

Prompt: Naru and Mai shares a dream (or multiple dreams), but neither of them know they’re actually sharing it. - @seoulsborne123
——
“Mai. We need to talk.”
Those were the first words Naru said when she came into the office. Apparently, he had been waiting for her, sitting on the sofa and watching the door.
Before she could say anything back, Naru stood and went to his office, beckoning her to follow.
“Close the door behind you,” he said, sitting in his chair. Mai did so, and stood before his desk, twisting her fingers together.
The air felt heavy. Naru couldn’t seem to look her in the eye, and settled on staring at his desk. He hesitated to speak, choosing his words carefully.
“Have you had any…unusual dreams lately?”
Mai took a deep breath. Last night, after continuous nightmares, most involving finding Naru dead in various ways, she had woken up in tears, and promptly vomited. It had taken her a while to regain composure after that, and even now, she felt shaken. She’d seen awful things like that before, but seeing it happen to someone she knew was something else.
Given all of that, she decided to be honest. “I’ve been seeing dreams of being on a train. With you. And last night…it was awful. I went to look in the other compartments, but…I only found horrible things. You…you were…” She put a hand to her mouth, as another wave of nausea washed over her.
Naru held up his hand, signaling that that was enough.
