House of the Dragon 2.01 x 2.02
EMMA D’ARCY WE WILL FIGHT FOR YOUR EMMY
Ok but can we acknowledge how well written the last olympian is???
Rachel and percy just liking each other for an escape from their realities and how real that was. Beckendorf dying. The plot twist of silena being the traitor later on which no one could guess. Percy learning the prophecy. Percy pushing annabeth away and annabeth yelling at him for running away from his feelings. The absolute angst that’s building up in percy’s mind from the thought of him dying and leading a WAR. NICO DI ANGELO. Annabeth as percy’s mortal anchor. The fact that to kill him, you need to STAB HIM IN THE BACK. The building tension. LUKE’S BACKSTORY. “WHAT DID THEY DO TO MY CITY??” Percy finally standing up and leading the army (we love zero to hero character development) The way dark percy is slowly being hinted with percy having a maniacal laugh while fighting and imagining himself with red eyes. THE AMAZING FIGHT SCENES. Annabeth getting stabbed. “DON’T TOUCH HER!!” Percy collapsing a brige and screaming when he couldn’t find any bodies. THE ANGST OF SILENA’s DEATH.The way he was just pushed past some camper like “where’s annabeth?” THE WHOLE BALCONY SCENE. Rachel coming back and suddenly the tension comes back again. NICO DI ANGELO. Annabeth being so angsty. THE FINAL FIGHT SCENE. Annabeth being the architect of olympus <3 Percy looking at annabeth while being offered immortality and remembers all the people who died since achilles told him to “never lose sight of what makes him mortal” “THINGS CAN ALWAYS GET BETTER” THE MOST SATISFYING ENDING TO BOOK SERIES EVER
No one does it like Rick Riordan
strange times have come with the beginning of season two because weirdly i have taken otto hightower's side during those two episodes and even felt for him (just a little bit), it can't be easy being surrounded by fools
(still not forgetting how he practically pimped out alicent though)

It is repeatedly emphasized in the show that the process of minining kalkite is invasive and risks destroying Ghorman’s biosphere, that the Empire had sought other options before committing to strip mining Ghorman, and that because Ghorman is a prominent Colonies world it would take time to turn public opinion against the Ghor - multiple years! - before they could begin. The entire point is that fascists can’t simply leave well enough alone - to get what they want they will eagerly manufacture consent for genocide. The Empire carefully manages public opinion to spin the massacre as a years-long terrorist uprising being put down, and it’s only Mon Mothma’s speech in the Senate that is able to blow a hole in that narrative.
This is just basic basic basic narrative analysis, but unfortunately we are dealing with Star Wars fans so that is not in their toolbox
my thoughts on ep 1 of s2:
1. i like how quiet this episode was on the blacks side, not much was said (apart of daemon's scenes), baela did not say a word and only comforted jace with gesture, rhaenyra said just one line!!! (and emma slays the whole episode), jace's cracking voice, funeral is very quiet, actors played only with their bodies, chills
2. i love the corlys's scene, "i had this comissioned for prince lucerys" THAT HURTS, are you kidding me? THE PEARL OF DRIFTMARK
3. glad that they showed rhaena during the funeral, i wished we saw scene with dragon twins comforting each other or sth, rhaena spent 6 years with luke on the dragonstone, she was supposed marry him and they took it from her, i wanted more
4. alicole is disgusting, hate both of this hypocrites, slutshaming rhae and tormenting her for years, just to screw each other. the scene when cole asks alicent to put the white cloaks on him was great, she, as (dowager) queen, gives him once again a symbol of honor that he doesn't deserve
5. b&c scene was... there, ig. next red wedding my ass. where's the horror in choosing the child by helaena? or begging to take her life instead of a child? i loved phia's acting and the scene with helaena leaving the room with jaehaera in her arms only with the sounds of jaehaerys' murder in the background but i wished the scene looked more similar to book!b&c. helaena walking into the room where alicole fuck each other? it looked grotesque
6. kinda annoying daemon's mostly shows his love to the children by violence, i liked him trashing rhaenys and erryk, very in character (and also bc i hate rhaenys' scene in ep9), "son for a son" line was there, except everything again is "by accident", like blood and cheese went to helaena by accident...? cutting the scene before daemon's answer was a mistake. was "son for a son" everything he said? did he mean aegon perhaps or jaehaerys or either? it would be smarter to kill aemond or aegon but more cruel to go for a child. we know daemon can be cruel but since he wanted to go with rhaenys after aemond, he's no fool. i'd prefer to have daemon directly saying how far he can go to avenge luke. but absolutely love daemon with his crime cloak
7. aegon is an idiot who don't know how to rule (OBVIOUSLY, BC HE'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THE KING, HE WASN'T PREPARED FOR IT AND HE DOESN'T WANT TO BE OTTO'S PUPPET), only tries to gain sympathy from people, father of the year who doesn't even know where his son spends time and not interested in any way in his daughter. notice how the servants reacted when he entered the room, i hate that little asshole
8. is alicent really surprised that her father undermines her, A WOMAN, after she helped him usurped rhaenyra exactly because she is A WOMAN herself??
9. cheese you're gonna burn in hell, KICKING A DOG? and he looked kinda sad for helaena? DUDE, YOU'RE CAUSING HER PAIN, why are you so weird about the fact that your crime is criming
10. nice moments: rhaenyra jumping off of a dragon looked really cool, also the wall, cregan and jace's talk, jace and joffrey on funeral, jaehaerys tormenting tyland, "fuck hightowers", rhaenyra and syrax mourning together the loss of their children
11. acting wise emma and harry carried this episode; phia and phoebe did the best with amount of screentime and script they got
my thoughts on episode 2 episode 3 episode 4 episode 5 episode 6 episode 7 episode 8
Oh, Genevieve. Did you have any idea what a couple days of work filming (ultimately deleted) scenes in Revenge of the Sith would eventually lead to?
Saw your brief comment about B&C and I agree with you, the writing wasn't it. The sounds were awful but them alone didn't really move me. I get Helaena's reactions aren't what's considered usual in general but Phia is amazing and deserved something better from the writers.
I will say the same thing I just said in another ask—the writers chose the cheap sounds of gore instead of the gut-wrenching bartering and the horrifying choice Helaena makes in the book.
She chooses Maelor over Jaehaerys because as a mother she thinks it's the merciful choice, as he is a baby and doesn't understand what is happening.
She makes that choice after offering herself, pleading they kill her instead, and under the threat that they will assault her daughter if she doesn't choose.
I understand they might have wanted to portray shock, but it is badly done. Again, I'm talking purely about the way the scene and the characters are written. Phia Saban did an amazing job with what she was given.
