It is possible for wonderful encounters and beautiful things to exist.

I get asked a lot for tips with coloring black people, so i put together a little tutorial! (and bumps my kofi if you found this helpful)
Scientists invented fabric that makes electricity from motion and sunlight. To create the fabric, researchers at Georgia Tech wove together solar cell fibers with materials that generate power from movement. It could be used in “tents, curtains, or wearable garments,” meaning we’d virtually never be without power. Source
Henry the dog and Baloo the cat are lifelong adventure buddies. Cynthia Bennett and her boyfriend started hiking with Henry when they adopted him as a puppy in 2014, and after adopting Baloo as a kitten a few months later, he joined in, too. Baloo is now so obsessed with traveling that he screams at the door as soon as Cynthia touches Henry’s leash. Source Source 2

Bluetooth technology is named after Harald Blatand, a 10th-century viking king whose last name translates to ‘Bluetooth.’ Whether or not he had a literal blue tooth is debated, but he was renowned for peacefully bringing people from different lands together. The symbol on Bluetooth’s logo is also Blatand’s initials in ancient Runes. Source
There’s a park in Austria that turns into a lake every summer. When temperatures rise, the snow melts on the mountains surrounding Grüner See, or Green Lake, and fills the meadow with water - leaving benches, trails, and trees completely submerged in crystal-clear snowmelt. Source Source 2

The most successful pirate in history was a Chinese prostitute. Cheng I Sao had an unbeatable fleet with 80,000 sailors, which was bigger than most countries’ navies, and the government eventually had to give up and offer her a truce. She retired with her loot, opened a gambling house, and later died, peacefully, a 69-year-old grandmother. Source Source 2 Source 3

Public schools in Boston are using a new global map to help show students what the world really looks like.
Boston Public Schools, a network that includes 125 institutions, announced Thursday that instead of just using the widely popular, over 400-year-old Mercator projection map, which grossly distorts the size of the world’s countries and continents, classrooms will be incorporating the Peters projection map because it is more accurate.
👇🏾👇🏾 The Peters projection map shows the world’s countries and continents at their true scale.
“Overall, we hope students gain a deeper understanding of the importance of researching and analyzing multiple perspectives in order to develop their own conclusions about the world around them,” BPS’ History and Social Studies Director Natacha Scott said. “By exploring geography, we also hope to increase an awareness of the relationship between themselves to other countries, communities, cultures, and individuals around the world.”
First of all I’d like to admit that no map is 100% accurate (though some are more accurate than others). But the ISSUE here is that the Mercator map doesn’t even get the size of Africa and South America right to the naked eye. Whichever map they use, people need to keep in mind just how many countries can fit into the African continent.
Africa is enormous, and people still somehow call it a country. I personally hate that!
The Peters projection represents a more area accurate map, which makes other continents more proportional to one another.
And what I like the most is that white people triggered by accurate map projections!!!!
Black queer love between two women often goes underrepresented in any medium.
Writer Tee Franklin wants to help change this with her forthcoming comic “Bingo Love.” It follows the fictional story of Hazel Johnson and Mari McCray, beginning from the time they fall in love as teenagers in 1963.
Their parents find out and forbid them from seeing each other again. The women lead separate lives, marrying men whom neither of them love. Hazel and Mari reunite at a bingo hall and old feelings surface. They divorce their husbands and live out their truth as a married couple, a light in which audiences rarely see elderly black women. Their love story extends all the way to 2030.
The 80-page graphic novella is one of the first of its kind.
Franklin, who created #BlackComicsMonth in 2015 to promote diversity in the straight white male-dominated industry, said inclusive stories like “Bingo Love” are crucial. She said that sometimes white superheroes aren’t as exciting as representation in comics…
This looks adorable, I would love to read this :3 Representation in so many ways. This is actually what we all need! Thank you Tee Franklin!
I’m glad her crowd-funding was successful so she can bring this to light.

We don’t even need a disney remake of Mulan. Look at this.
I would totally watch more Disney reboots if children from the actual ethnicities were cast in those movies.
A Black WOMAN roped the Confederate statue to be pulled down in Durham yesterday.
A Black WOMAN climbed a flagpole in Columbia to take down the Confederate flag.
Three Black WOMEN brought us Black Lives Matter and jumpstarted a movement.
A Black WOMAN was the first African-American to put themselves in the running for a major party nomination for President.
A Black WOMAN refused to give up her seat on a bus.
A Black WOMAN made some 13 trips back to the South to shuttle slaves north to Freedom.
Are y'all hearing me this morning?
Black women are taking over film right now and I am so fucking excited.
While other superheros trying to catch up with each other, Channing Tatum was helping 92-year-old Stan Lee get off stage.
When everyone is talking about the awesome Superheros selfie, let’s see what happened afterwards. Channing was the only one thought of helping 92-year-old Stan Lee get off stage.
If in America we lowered our ticket prices on Broadway, audiences could make up their own minds and wouldn’t have to rely on the New York Times as the critic to tell us what we think. I think we have a big problem on Broadway right now where Wall Street has hijacked Broadway. They’re not in it for the love of the theater. I don’t know anybody that goes to Broadway or goes in to theater period to make money. It isn’t a money-making proposition. There can only be one ‘Wicked’ a decade really but we have a lot of Wall St. fat cats who are money-laundering on Broadway and when they don’t get the reviews they want, they shut the play down. They’re not showmen so they don’t know how to run it or how to bring an audience in. You have to have the ingenuity to get beyond the reviews if they’re bad. In the old days they would never let a critic tell them their show was a flop. They would find a way to outwit them.

Female football player. To be specific, the team’s quarterback. Not only is she tough, but she also keeps her feminine side. So she isn’t a girl who’s like ‘ewww makeup and skirts’. She’s more of a,” Shabooya, touchdowns and tiaras!!” She used to be a cheerleader.
The three main girls Bella, Pepper, and Sophie are really close and stick together and promote girl power.
Bella Dawson, the main character, is shown play with her dad football as a little girl and she has always loved football so her talent in the game isn’t just something they pulled out of nowhere.
The cast is super diverse!! Half the cast is a person of color.
A main character is adopted by an interracial couple.
They boys in the team didn’t want Bella on the team all of course. Troy, who used to be their quarterback, was one of the first to accept her into the team and let her play when they were playing an important game.
The boys have total respect for Bella’s privacy in the locker room, and they even built her her own little closet space for her to get dressed.
The main character has a single mother.
A boy on the football team is pretty sensitive.
The show is aimed towards little girls who will see that a girl is capable of being on the football team and being a quarterback. THIS IS IMPORTANT.
One of the side characters who is also a PoC, said on the show that he has two dads.
Here is a masterpost of MOOCs (massive open online courses) that are available, archived, or starting soon. I think they will help those that like to learn with a teacher or with videos. You can always check the audit course or no certificate option so that you can learn for free.

Just in case they didn’t teach you about this.
The Silent Parade was a silent protest march of between 8,000 and 10,000 African Americans that started at Fifth Avenue and 57th Street in New York City on July 28, 1917. The purpose of the parade was to protest murders, lynchings, and other violence directed towards African Americans. The parade was precipitated by the East St. Louis riots in May and July 1917, when between 40 and 250 Black people were killed by white mobs.
