Can people please shut the fuck up about how “shipping every male character is harmful to the male friendship representation”

Literally almost every single peace of media has platonic male friendships in it and almost none of them ends up in a canon relationship. So there IS representation. Some people shipping those characters don’t take away their canon friendship.

And it doesn’t only happen to the male friendships. Every close female and male/female friendship you see on screen will always have people shipping them.

Because guess what? That’s how fandoms work. It doesn’t only happen with male friendships.

Are we really ignoring all the people who assume every man and woman who breaths the same air are canonically in love with each other? But somehow it’s only a problem when queer people do it.

Are we really ignoring how we get so little male/female friendships in media without writers turning it romantic at some point?

But we never get to see two close male leads of an action movie kissing at the end do we? So shut up about “friendship representation” You have tons of platonic friendships.

And the thing is, a lot of people who say this don’t even care about platonic friendships or mlm fetishization by straight girls. They’re just trying to find a way to put queer ships down. They never say “I think this two specific characters are good friends so I don’t like it when people ship them”

Instead, it’s always “these characters showed a little pinch of interest to opposite gender so they’re straight. just let people be friends and stop making everything gay”

Because they’re not actually mad about people shipping two close friends together. They’re mad about people offering the possibility of some fictional characters not being straight

Hi lost! I've recently started writing fics again (after going cold turkey for, what, 10 years?) and I was wondering– do you have any tips on writing Erwin and Levi respectively? I've always struggled with deep insights of characters and feel like I always have to have complex thoughts and emotions explained to me to understand them, and in the case of eruri I feel like that really isn't sustainable 😂 (1/2)

it sometimes feels like their entire existence is shrouded in mystery and such intricate complexity that I just never get a grip on what they truly think or who they fundamentally are– i've tried going through your meta tags about them and am currently reading a bunch of fics to try and figure it out but always draw a blank. it feels like i'm trying but taking backwards progress and i'm sorry for putting you in this sort of position!! i just feel like a few pointers would be a good start (2/2)

Congratulations Anon! That’s great that you’ve taken the plunge and started writing again! Erwin and Levi can be quite daunting characters to write, but they have such depth nuance, that once you get a feel for their characters, every other OTP pales in comparison.

Before I try to answer your question, I want to preface this by saying that every reader and writer has their own interpretation of Erwin and Levi’s characters, and that’s just fine. Some writers prefer to follow canon characterisation, while others enjoy pushing their characters to extremes or changing them entirely. It’s fine, it's fanfiction, anything goes! Personally, I try to stick as closely as possible to canon characterisation, I have no idea if I’m successful, but that’s what I’m aiming for. So this is my interpretation of Erwin and Levi’s canon characters.

The first thing to be aware of is that both Erwin and Levi are unreliable narrators who see their own actions in the worst possible light. Levi claims that he doesn’t mind being a lunatic and a killer, and there’s certainly some truth in that, but he is also one of the kindest characters in the entire series. Meanwhile Erwin sees himself as a cheat and fraud who fooled his men into dying for humanity, while he alone pursued his own selfish dream. That of course is patently untrue, Erwin is far from the only character pursuing his own dream.

Erwin is definitely the more complex character of the two. On the surface, he appears to be the personification of the cold, ruthless military commander, driven to pursue his goal and willing to sacrifice anyone and anything, including his soldiers and his own humanity, in order to achieve it. However this facade conceals a deeply vulnerable human being with great emotional depth, who is haunted by his father’s death and the guilt he feels for pursuing his dream. Of course it’s only to Levi that Erwin reveals this vulnerability, when he admits the toll that this mis-placed guilt has taken on him and confesses that he often thought it would be easier to simply die.

Erwin is also a deeply compassionate individual, in addition to the guilt he carries for pursuing his dream, he also feels enormous guilt and personal responsibility for all those that died under his command. He’s a gambler and a risk taker but he always calculates his risks to minimize casualties, and he never hesitates to lead from the front. Erwin also has a talent for seeing potential in people who others might write off as worthless; a crazy heretic like Hangi, a monster like Eren, a thug like Levi. Erwin clearly has incredible strategic intelligence, but he’s also a bit weird and he sharesLevi’s off the wall sense of humour. He is also kind and generous to his subordinates, loyal to his friends, and tender and gentle with those he cares about. In the Smartpass stories you’ll find him buying gifts for his squad leaders, writing fond letters to Nile and Marie, and sharing wistful tender moments with Levi in the rain. Erwin may be a little vain but he is never selfish, arrogant, or egotistical and he is never ever wilfully cruel. (The other thing Erwin is most definitely not is a sociopath. I have seen some people describe him as a sociopath in the past, and I honestly don’t know where to even begin with that.)

I think one of my favourite quotes that really encapsulates the depth and complexity of Erwin’s character comes from Ono Daisuke who said:

“Erwin has so much emotion that it’s difficult for people to see it. The amplitude of his emotions is so great that to those around him it looks as if the needle isn’t moving at all.”

Levi is a much more straightforward character, but even then he’s still a mess of contradictions. On the one hand he’s coarse, violent, aloof and intimidating, but on the other, he’s brave, compassionate, loyal, and capable of inspiring others. It’s these contradictions that make him such a compelling and popular character. There’s a lovely exchange in the Smartpass Erwin & Levi Up Close Interview where Erwin waxes lyrical about Levi’s character to the interviewer.

Erwin: …Alright. Starting with Levi…I think he is excellent at shouldering important duties. With the title “Humanity’s Strongest” as part of the SC, our reputations have also been elevated. On the battlefield, he has also faithfully completed the tasks I have assigned to him. Despite his warmhearted nature, I’ve asked him to carry out some cruel missions…

Journalist: Is Captain Levi very…”warmhearted?”

Erwin: You’ve already interviewed his subordinates, right? Then you must have heard just how much they trust their captain.

Journalist: Indeed. I even heard the same thing from new recruits who are not from his squad.

Erwin: He just has a rude attitude…but he cherishes his comrades’ life more than anyone else. His reputation cannot be established based on strength alone, Humans can subconsciously detect how much concern others have for them… and when they notice this kindness, it inspires power…That is something that I can’t do.

I know there is sometimes a tendency to characterise Levi as a bit of a naive ingenue before he meets Erwin, but I think that’s doing him a disservice. Before joining the Survey Corps, Levi was a successful gang leader in the Underground, taught to survive by one of the underworld’s most notorious killers. He’s tough, resilient and street smart. He may not have Erwin’s strategic intelligence, but he has a talent for reading and understanding people. And he also has a really dumb shitty sense of humour

Levi is also one of the most consistent characters in the series. He basically doesn’t change from beginning to end; he remains devoted to Erwin, to his cause and to his comrades. I know some readers were frustrated by what they saw as Levi’s lack of character growth in the manga, but one of the things I’ve always loved about Levi is his constancy. He enters the manga as a grown ass adult and that’s who he remains. His character development happens primarily before the main arc of the manga, in ACWNR.

When it comes to understanding Erwin and Levi’s relationship with each other, I’ve written reams and reams which you can find in my eruri relationship tag. Here are a few highlights that I think really capture what I love most about their relationship.

The thing I adore most about Erwin and Levi’s relationship is that it’s not a romance. It’s a mature adult relationship between two war weary veterans who have spent their entire lives fighting. Who, against the odds, have grown to trust, respect and love on each other. Erwin gives Levi a purpose, a cause to fight for, and Levi gives Erwin his strength and support. Of course some of the trappings of romance are there too in the supplementary materials; the private dinners, the quiet moments watching the rain fall, the contraband tea, the gifts of fancy clothes, but it’s not the romance that matters, it’s the Deep Bond of Mutual Trust. It’s the fact that Erwin depends on Levi and trusts him enough to reveal his deepest regrets and desires. At the same time, Levi cares so deeply for Erwin that he willingly shoulders his burden and damns humanity to let him rest in peace.

What the hell do they think a relationship looks like when you’re an exhausted 30 + year old war veteran who has spent their entire life fighting for survival? It looks like this; finding someone who you can trust with your life. If you were to ask me what characterizes a successful adult relationship I would say it’s exactly this; mutual trust, respect and understanding, and when push comes to shove, the willingness to do everything in your power to help the person you hold most dear, even if that means letting them go.

Erwin gave Levi a cause to fight for, a position of authority and respect, he treats him with kindness and consideration, he trusts him above and beyond all others, and it’s Levi he turns to when he needs support. In return, Levi devotes his strength to Erwin’s cause, he becomes his right hand man, a shoulder to lean on, the one person Erwin can open up to and who will lift his burden when it grows too heavy.

Hello! Sorry if this ask comes off as ignorant but who’s Hitomi and Yams from your recent post?! I figure Yams is short for Isayama, but I’m still curious abt the former.

Yams is indeed Isayama and Hitomi is H-eichi/ hitomi a doujinshi artist whose art style is incredibly similar to Isayama’s and who creates the most heartbreaking doujins.  I don’t think they’re still active in the fandom, but you can find some of their work here.

Looks at inbox…. stares into the tumblr void. Ok, I have an actual question here. Where is this alleged mass of eruris who make serum bowl all about romance? I need a list of names.  No, seriously. I’ll wait.

I suspect it’s something more like this happening:

Exclusively equating love to romance is like assuming I’m talking only about cheese curds when I mention dairy products. Don’t get me wrong, cheese curds are great, but they are a largely insignificant part of the larger dairy catalog and they are never my go-to snack when I’m crying over a K-drama at midnight. 

We know Levi is compassionate. He cared deeply about a great many people, but looking at the manga, I’d use the word “loved” for only a handful. Levi loved Erwin. You can rip that word from my cold dead hands. I’d say he loved Hange too, although I do believe canonically his feelings for Erwin were different.

Erwin was the most important person in Levi’s life.  And before I get a million angry follow ups, let me highlight that I said “most important” and not “only important”. Levi’s relationship with Erwin is also his most significant relationship in the manga. Again. points to “most” and not “only”. 

The manga goes to great lengths to highlight the bonds that Ackermans form with their chosen person. In each case that relationship is woven into the story . We see when it happened, why it happened, and how that relationship affected the entire life of said Ackerman. We’re supposed to look at these acker-relationships and see parallels. These relationships are significant and lifetime. They are exemplified by devotion, care, concern and the desire to protect. And yes, in each of these cases I’d call it love. Please note that I did not say “romance”. It’s the “not romance” part that’s most interesting to me. 

This is not to say that the idea of romance isn’t fun to explore. And it’s not out of the realm of canon possibilities. I will always smirk at the bloody dripping heart that was drawn onto Levi’s cheek as he stated, “I swore to him!!” for the very first time in chapter 81. Someone on Isayama’s team is a shipper.

Ah yes. For a ship community to explore romance isn’t the same as reducing everything to romance. It’s what a ship community does. Like, it’s the whole point of shipping?? (Ya’ll do know this, right???) But I also suspect if you polled my ship community on a serious day and asked what they found to be the most interesting or compelling aspect of the relationship, “romance” wouldn’t crack the top ten. It would be “devotion”. (And on a not serious day it would be “erwin’s tiddies” because a ship community be like that.)

Come to think of it, the only people I see making Eruri “all about romance” are the anons who seem to love making that accusation. 

And now I’m going to have breakfast. 

The Ackerbond

One of the most controversial topics in this entire fandom is the concept of the Ackerman bonds. Beliefs range from insisting that the Ackermans are slaves, to insisting that there is no such thing as an Ackerbond. Not made better by Isayama's very vague descriptions in his Answers book, and by Eren's speech to Mikasa.

So, I'm writing this post to hopefully address all the interpretations out there and also share my own.

The Ackermans

In chapter 63, Mikasa and Levi have a chat, in which Mikasa reveals that her father's clan was persecuted in the cities, which led him to flee to the mountains. Levi reveals that Kenny Ackerman once had a moment where he felt an absurd amount of strength flow through his body, and then he knew what to do. Mikasa and Levi admit that they had moments like those too.

In chapter 65, Kenny's grandfather reveals that the reason the Ackermans were persecuted was because they refused to bow down to the ideology of the King any longer, after years of being the royals' sword and shield. They were one of the clans that was not affected by the power of the Founder, and so they were hunted down. Their persecution continued even after the head of the clan surrendered, and only ended when Uri Reiss put an end to it.

In chapter 93, Magath tells us that the Ackerman clan is a sub-product of Titan science, and that they only existed in the legends of the royals. So they don't know all that much about them in Marley either.

In chapter 112, Eren says that the Ackermans possess the power of a titan in a human body, which is why they are so strong. They receive the experiences of the previous Ackermans through Paths and are able to channel them.

In chapter 126, Hange points out that the only reason Levi survived his injuries was because of his Ackerman strength.

In 138, we find that Ackermans are not affected by the gas, and cannot turn into titans. It was kind of unclear in the earlier chapters, because it was unclear if Levi even drank the wine.

Eren's words

The controversy creator, the chapter that had all Mikasa haters on the edge of their seats. I'll just let Eren take the floor, cause his arguments are so poorly thought out on hindsight.

Basically, Mikasa imprinted on Eren in that moment by mistaking him for her "host," and lost her free will and her real self, becoming enslaved to Eren, which is why she follows him.

Now I could go ahead and shoot all this down, could let myself go to town on this, but why should I when Zeke does it for me? Chapter 130, for reference.

So there you have it, straight from the mouth of Zeke Yeager himself! There is no programed behavior or impulse. Mikasa just loves Eren so much she wants to follow him to the ends of the Earth (One could wonder how Zeke "emotional constipation is real, life is meaningless and nothing matters" Yeager is so knowledgeable on matters of the heart, but I digress).

Answers

The other most valuable resource for learning about the Ackermans, vague as Isayama is in it. @lostcauses-noregrets has an Ackerman Masterpost on their blog where there are some translations for what exactly has been said in the book. I'm not putting them here because they aren't mine, but the gist of it is that the Ackermans have the quality of choosing a person to "bond" with, but that it is simply their nature to choose someone to follow.

And they are not enslaved and unable to carry out their own wishes. Despite being "Ackerbonded" to Erwin, Levi let him go even when he could have saved him. Despite being "Ackerbonded" to Eren, Mikasa beheads him. They all disagree with the person they consider their liege many times, but they still continue to devote themselves to that person. And that is by their own choice.

And Isayama says that if they bond with someone, they are able to unleash amazing power. I think we see it when Levi chases Zeke, or with Mikasa in Liberio, or maybe when she chases Annie. These Ackerpowers are different from the Ackerbond though. The powers are awakened presumably when the Ackerman is in a high stress scenario, and then they know what to do thanks to the instinct.

We can't say when Kenny might have "awakened," but Mikasa awakened when she killed her kidnappers, and Levi might have awakened at the end of ACWNR, which I am inclined to believe because of how this paragraph is written.

Everything that Farlan and Isabel had—their dreams and hopes, their happiness and their sadness—they had taken all of those important, valuable things, and erased them from this world.

The six titans, done with eating every other person in sight, spotted Levi standing alone in stunned silence. They began to all approach him at once.

“You……bastaaaaaaaards—!!”

Something within Levi exploded.

Unbounded anger overtook him, painting his sight red, and whatever followed didn’t show any trace in his memory.

But this is my personal opinion, so feel free to disagree.

That being said...

The Ackerbond

It is established that it is an instinctive part of the Ackermans to form bonds with a person. It is also established that this does not stem from any sort of programming, rather from their own nature. Mikasa and Levi especially, are the kinds of people whose nature it is to protect. Their desire to follow someone isn't slavery, rather it is a conscious choice.

Let me put it this way. Anger is a trait that can be learnt in life and also acquired through genetics. If it is so, then anger is literally in a persons genes, it is part of their nature. They can't help but get angry. But whether or not the individual choses to act on it is not part of that. A person can choose to blow up and yell, or simmer quietly, walk away and calm down. That is a conscious choice that is made, whether or not to let the instincts take over.

It is the same here. Perhaps the desire to form that sort of a protective bond with someone is a common trait shared by all members of the clan, but whether they choose to act on it is up to them. In the story itself, all three Ackermans have found some person with whom they have established this sort of bond, because if they didn't, then what's the point of introducing this sort of concept?

The three bonds established in the series are Mikasa-Eren, Levi-Erwin and Kenny-Uri.

Mikasa and Eren

Mikasa and Eren's bond is the point around which the story revolves. It starts when Eren, in an act of kindness, wraps his scarf around Mikasa after she has lost everything. The world Mikasa had known before the loss of her parents had vanished and Mikasa had lost everything. In that moment, Eren gave her a home when she had lost hers. He saved her when she had lost everything. The scarf she wears, to Mikasa, represents her home, the kindness that Eren gave her. Eren is her home, and she does whatever is in her power to keep him safe.

As for Eren, Mikasa is someone who will protect him no matter what, and will love him unconditionally no matter how not special he is. Even if he thinks that people should live freely and not tied to another person, Mikasa's love means a lot to him.

What Isayama says he intended to portray with them is that Mikasa looked up and admired Eren as someone who gave her everything, and swore to follow him and protect him, but Eren was even more childish than Mikasa. The fact that Mikasa swore to follow someone who was a child, as a child herself, both lacking development as individuals helps us watch their journey.

Mikasa clings to the image of Eren as she knew, as the one who wrapped the scarf around her neck, and is forced to confront the reality of who he is, someone who has been kind to her, but also someone who is willing to hurt others. In the end, she comes to understand the part of Eren that she has ignored all this while. She decides to stay true to her principles and morals by killing Eren in the end, but now with a full understanding of who Eren really is, she decides to continue loving him for what he means to her, for all he had done for her by giving her a home and for promising to wrap the scarf around her.

Kenny and Uri

Kenny is someone who is driven by a desire for power, it is to power that he is a slave. Kenny hunts down Uri Reiss who captures him in his titan. When Uri kneels in front of him and asks for forgiveness, Kenny is amazed and moved that someone with so much power would bow down to someone like him. It is at this moment that he decides to follow Uri, to understand him.

As for Uri, I guess that the memories he inherited from the titan made him disillusioned in humanity, but meeting Kenny restored his faith in humanity, and he longed to build them a paradise. It was meeting Kenny that set him back on this path, and to him, their friendship is a true miracle.

Kenny sees that Uri has a unique vision of the world. He wants to build a paradise for people, he's kind, and despite his power, he kneeled before Kenny in humility. For Kenny, a person with power is capable of anything, and having power is the most important. But the one with so much power willingly bowed to him. Kenny sees the titan power Uri has, and he wants it so that he can see the world the way Uri does. The scene Uri sees of compassion, is what Kenny wants to see as well. It is for that reason that Kenny continues to fight, to see the scene that Uri saw, which is Kenny's connection to his liege, the person that saw something good in someone like him, who believed in him despite everything he was.

In the end of his life, Kenny realizes that even Uri was a slave to something, and understands that the power is not what makes someone compassionate. In a poetic end to his story, Kenny gives Levi the serum instead of using it on himself in a selfless act, and finally sees the scene which Uri saw.

Levi and Erwin

Levi and Erwin don't meet on the best of terms. Erwin coerces Levi into joining the Survey Corps, and Levi is intent on killing him. Upon the loss of Levi's only friends, everything he had, Erwin gives Levi a speech which awakens him to a sense of purpose. Levi understands that Erwin sees something he cannot and wants to understand what it is, which is why he follows him. In the years that pass, Levi understands that thing and decides to help Erwin achieve it. Levi decides to follow Erwin because he thought that he had altruistic motives that Levi had never considered. Erwin gave him purpose and direction in his life, which was otherwise empty.

As for Erwin, Levi is someone with whom he can share his burdens, someone he can truly trust to always be by his side. Levi gives Erwin his strength and provides him with motivation by offering support and encouragement no matter what his decision lead to. Even when it is revealed to Levi that Erwin has selfish motivations, he still remains unflinchingly loyal to him, and continues to follow him. And when Erwin finally breaks down on that crate, Levi is there to assure him of his worth and helps him take control of his life once more, and helps him let go of his dream and ride to his death. And Levi again, chooses to let Erwin rest so that he does not have to come back and suffer as a devil once more.

Levi makes a promise to Erwin, and it is something he is intent on carrying out as it is to him, Erwin's last order. Certainly he has his goal of saving humanity, but the promise is tied to Erwin in a way that makes it personal between them, as it is something they shared. This is what connects him to Erwin, and he is determined to carry it out. And no matter what, he will not regret letting Erwin go, and he will carry his burdens, content with the fact that he has let him rest at last.

A metaphor for Love, I would say.

Despite the obvious difference between Mikasa-Eren compared to Levi-Erwin and Kenny-Uri (both of which have some parallels if one wants to look at it in that way), there is one thing in common. In all of these, the person each Ackerman chooses is someone who has had a lasting impact on their life, without whom they would not be who they are today. This person is an integral part of their characters. And there is something tangible in the story itself, that connects the Ackermans to their lieges.

What sells it for me that this is not a relation between a master and a slave, however, is that even the people who are the "lieges" are impacted significantly by there relationships. The most significant scenes in their character arcs (for those who have one) happen alongside their Ackerman. Which means that it is a mutual, equal relationship on both sides.

The lieges in each case, give the Ackerman something worth living for, when they have lost everything, be it a home or purpose in life. They give the Ackerman a reason to live. And the Ackermans, in all cases, devote themselves to this person, and support them unconditionally, continuing to remember and fight for them even after they have passed. It is the ultimate expression of loyalty and devotion. It is the ultimate expression of love.

The end of the story itself, is about love. Ymir Fritz loved King Fritz, but wanted to break free from him, because she did not want to be a slave. She saw in Mikasa the ability to break free from her slavery to him. She saw in Mikasa her capacity for unconditional love, how she would continue to love Eren, and yet be able to break free from him. She saw how she would love Eren, always, but be able to kill him if that was what had to be done.

Eren believes that one must be unattached to be free, but fails to realize that Mikasa's freedom is in loving Eren, and following him. The freedom the Ackermans have, is in following the person who gave them everything.

I believe that SNK is perhaps not a romance, but it is most certainly a love story. Love is not portrayed as the magical, pink hearts and rainbow-y thing that we find in most kids shows. But however, love is a strong force in the story, something that can drive a person to do anything. Like Carla's sacrifice for her son, or the love between Ymir and Historia. In my opinion, no one represents this better than the Ackermans.

Mikasa, who would love Eren no matter how he hurt her, no matter what he's done, because she knows him, and she can accept him fully and continue to love him.

Levi, who would love Erwin enough to take away all his burdens from him, and allow him to rest in peace, even though he would like nothing more than to bring him back.

Kenny, who would admire and love him Uri he had never loved anyone else in his life, who wished to see what he saw, who fought for him even after he passed.

They aren't slaves. Everything they've done, they've done with free will. They loved freely and they were loved back.

Eren, who would love Mikasa for all she has done for him, and want her to be happy and free, who gave her a home to return to.

Erwin, who would admire and trust Levi deeply, more than anyone else, who would give him a purpose in life, and thank him for everything with a smile no else gets to see.

Uri, who would believe in Kenny and see the good in him, even when no one else would.

It's the selfless love, a powerful feeling. It is the one responsible for the start of the titan curse, but also the one responsible for its end. The relationships between the characters move the story forward, and not many are as significant as the bonds between the Ackermans and their lieges.

I wrote this somewhere else, but I'm putting it here too.

Ultimately, what he Ackerbond term means is that someone with the last name “Ackerman” decided to follow someone else. It was all their choice, and they chose to follow a person and devote themselves to them.

I have always held firm in my belief that one of the main themes explored by SNK is “the power of love.” Not that love is the ultimate force that overcomes all, but love itself, as one of the most powerful emotions in the world, something that can make people do unimaginable things, that is so strong and so beautiful. The Ackerman family explores that love. The Ackerbond is a metaphor for love. It shows how much people are capable of loving, how much this love impacts everyone, and what love entails. Devotion, commitment, security. It’s not just romantic love, it’s love in all forms. Mikasa and Eren’s love changed the world. The bond between Mikasa and Eren, Kenny and Uri, Levi and Erwin was integral to them and their characters, and in each case there was a facet of love explored.

And the Ackermans are the poster people for the theme of love, but the relationships between characters have been driving the story for a long time. Like Armin and Eren, Ymir and Historia, Jean and Marco, and so many others. Isayama has always placed an emphasis on love. It’s the most powerful feeling in the world. People can do anything for love. SNK might not be a romance, but it is a love story. And no one exemplifies that theme better than the Ackerman family.

But I was just curious..., is there any part of you that thinks that larry may have not been real this entire time and it was just fans projecting that idea onto them? (For example, reading too much into things, trying to find connections when there aren't any, and basing newer theories on other theories that were just headcanons) Because I understand that larries are upset sometimes because there are 'stunts' still happening and nothing has changed. But do you ever doubt it now? That maybe, the stunts haven't changed because maybe they were never really stunts in the first place?

I understand that as fans we're not with harry and louis 24/7 so we don't really know what goes on in their lives. But I'm just curious because, if fans don't know what's happening 24/7, how can their beliefs be completely accurate? There must be some plot holes right?

In my opinion a lot of the times, larries say things like, oh this relationship timeline doesn't make any sense but from my perspective, we only have knowledge of what we see publicly, so the reason things might not make sense is because we don't have the full picture/or all the pieces of the puzzle. We just have a select few instances that we can base our judgements on, but the downside to this is that our judgements can also be inaccurate. Therefore, I honestly don't see larry as being real now. Maybe in the past harry seemed to have a crush on Louis or something, but other than that, I think fans were reading too much into things and dragged it along for too long to the point that no one could really do anything about it. First of all, you have no idea how much I appreciate you for being so straightforward and saying you're not a larrie! Because there's a lot of people coming here trying to stir the pot, pretending to be larries and being really shitty at us. (and some larries are no better) It's not hard to just be polite even though we think differently, we could all have a chat and have some fun together.

Anyway, I totally understand where you're coming from. It's a very practical way of thinking and I can definitely relate to that because I'm a very practical person myself, maybe that's why you're writing me this. So I actually agree with a lot of things you said. But I do think that this is coming from much more from a place of lack of knowledge on what we actually believe or don't believe, than from pure skepticism. Do you know what I mean? I cannot speak for other larries, but for me, it's much less about theories, and reaches, and reading into things, and much more about the consistency of facts as a whole. We can obviously add layers of theories and complexity to that - and I think people will naturally try to understand things in a way that makes more sense to them, which is incredibly subjective - but at the end of the day, we're talking about a series of events here. We are reading too much into things, that is a fact. But that's only because we keep finding things when we do, we keep getting reaffirmations. Otherwise, we would have dropped it years ago.

We're certainly not completely accurate, that would be impossible. The only thing I'm 100% sure of - and that's me answering your question - is that Harry and Louis are together and always had been. No, I don't have a single doubt in my mind. And I'm not saying larry is real because they keep wearing blue and green and this kind of shit. I'm saying larry is real because when we look at a bigger picture, it makes sense. I'm not saying their relationships with girls don't make sense, of course there are holes but I completely agree this could be justified since we're not watching people 24/7, but imo when we stop looking at larry as something so unlikely, larry makes more sense than whatever other official narrative going on. And that's based on what we see publicly anon, believe it or not.

Because, honestly, if we take all the "proofs" and theories out of the picture, what is so unlikely about larry being real? Besides looking at things from a very heteronormative point of view? First things first, we have a disgusting industry, where closeting is undoubtedly not only very real but frequent. A fabricated and extremely profitable boyband targeted for an audience made of young heterosexual females, where having gay members would be very inconvenient. Abusive contracts, especially coming from talent shows. We have both Simon Cowell and Modest Management being exposed over and over for abusive behaviour. People connected with One Direction openly talking about "helping” closeting people with PR relationships. So, unfortunately, it's not an unlikely scenario at all. And then on top of that, we can start to add all the fishy stuff. What the hell happened with Harry and Louis "friendship"? We can all agree that shit was never platonic in the first place. And then their behaviour drastically changed, at the same time both of them started to get girlfriends and 1D skyrocketed worldwide. Girlfriends that very coincidentally started to show up everytime there was something to be promoted. Repeating the same patterns year after year. At the same time they started to get tattoos, on a running theme, not only one or two, there's probably ten of those coincidences all over their bodies. Ship and compass, heart and arrow, anchor and rope, oops and hi, the fucking papillon tattoos???... One after the other, in sequence. And then he got the dagger, after months of speculation, right after a huge denial? What are the chances! And then when Harry got the mermaid and we started to speculate about Louis getting a lighthouse and he showed up with a customized t-shirt with a lighthouse, saying "yes". And those are only the tattoos, don't even let me get started on the other hundreds of coincidences. Did they actually ever hated each other? Hated larries? Why the fuck they would be so bothered by gay rumours when they seem to be at least allies. How many times they're going to need to orbit around each other so people can stop calling it a coincidence. What the fuck was even the rainbow bears, and since we're talking cryptic, why there's so much consistency when we *delulus* feel like they're communicating, why is it always the same pattern over and over on the queer coding, on the coded clothing, lyrics. We can only go crazy and speculate to a certain point, why there's always room for interpretation, why they keep feeding into it. How in the world did they end up with the same vintage t-shirt, why is Harry obsessed with things named Louis, why did Louis wear a t-shirt with a huge H in it if he knew what it meant, why did he sing princess park, why did he sing LARRY CALL A LOT OF SMOKE IN? Out of all the names, t-shirts, songs, places... what 👏 are 👏 the 👏 chances. Things don't mean anything individually, they're just coincidences, theories, reaches, until proven otherwise. But when we start to add things up to this same pile... it means everything. They actually fit. So, you do you, anon. If you think that's too crazy, too fucked, that is fine, I understand that people have different points of view and I respect that. I'm not worried about being on the "right side", I'm worried about being truthful. I love them, and I feel like they need to be heard. Desperately. I don't believe shit like that happens on a bigger picture so consistently unless there's something else going on.

Honestly, I get really confused when Larries always say H hates being sexualized. If you look at it from an objective point of view, it is very clear that H and his team are using a "sex sells" marketing strategy. He's not uncomfortable being sexualized because that it literally part of their promo plan. Sex attracts attention. Hshq is using sex in their marketing to create an effective and memorable campaign and it's working. He literally advertised the album as being about being sad & sex. 1/2

I’m choosing to answer this because there is.... a lot to unpack here. To start, i’m incredibly sick of seeing people pretending that “sexuality,” and “sex appeal” are the same thing as “sexualization” especially when it refers to hypersexualization. it’s not and it never has been. you can find someone attractive and have that person perform sexuality, at any level, and still not display sexualization of this person. it’s not a complicated concept. there are many facets of harry’s life that has been built to fit a lothario image that does drive off the hyper-sexualization of him as an image and a person, but it goes beyond just his team using it for fan? engagement? the media has perpetuated it as well since he was 16 years old (a child). past “girlfriends” have perpetuated it when their relationships end. talk show hosts like ellen and james corden would consistently push this angle regardless of whether or not they were friends. red carpet reporters have asked these questions directly to his face. past models who have worked with him in any capacity have helped this narrative along by moaning his name and sexualizing him. ben winston has no problem feeding into it. there’s branches that split from the whole that has fed into this goliath image that has been sexualized for ten years of his life.

and you think...... he’s comfortable with that? you think he likes that he can stand next to any woman and be plagued with stories about fucking them? you think he thrives off the fact that every part of who he is and what his body looks like is constantly on parade when tied to this image? you think he doesn’t care that much of the GP and those in the industry think he’s incredibly easy and will sleep with anyone and anything so long as he gives them a smile? you think he thought it was funny when he was visibly uncomfortable having howard stern ask if he wanted to fuck his therapist because she was a woman? you think he enjoys the fact that he has to watch out who he’s around or even nice to because so many have gone to papers or online and fabricated stories about sex or relationships for clout attached to his name? you think it makes him laugh when people talk about his sex life and publications like GQ pushed him to tell them how many people he’s slept with as a 19 yr old? you don’t think he cares that he’s lost a lot of his youth and control of his image due to sexualizing tycoons?

you also confuse me with the points you made about him playing into a hypersexualized image. you use examples that are so highly misconstrued it feels detached in every way. he didn’t do nude photo shoots. he did one photoshoot that featured a nude and the nude was not in any way put on display as an act of sexual fodder. it was sensual. it was fragile. it was soft. it was a piece of art and seeing as how you didn’t see it that way only falls more on you than it does anyone else. you can be nude and do that without inviting in ideas of sexualization. nothing about that photo screams sex appeal. regarding the music videos..... congratulations, you missed the entire point again. the Lights Up music video was meant to depict his experience with fame and sexualization. those pulling at him from all angles represents everyone wanting a piece of him as he just wants to exist. how his career and life since he was 16 was built off never being his own— he’s always been “on display” for everyone else. he not once touched any of the models, and he ended up riding away from it all at the end of the video finally free. even when talking to radio hosts about the video he touched on how personal that song was to him. yet the media and fans alike drew it differently and labeled it a sex orgy lmao. and with WS..... it’s the media that first drew the hyped up sexual energy tied to that song. the blatant headlines about oral sex which then hyped up fans. yes, they used the video to display oral sex but nothing about that video was sexualized in a way that would’ve been expected. the ones that have a right to be upset about the WS video are wlw because of how it could go about sexualizing the WOMEN not harry.

so again, stop pretending like sexuality and sex appeal is anything like sexualization. it isn’t, and just because something or someone portrays him in a “sexy” light doesn’t mean it’s okay or even appropriate to sexualize or objectify him based on that. olympic swimmers can be pictured as sexy because of the tight clothing, built bodies, and athleticism but that doesn’t green light sexualization of them. antoni porowski can show off his body and pose sensually (even sexually) and that doesn’t mean it gives you the okay to objectify him and his body. i theorize a big reason why harry is often seen in baggier clothes now, beyond his fashion sense, is because without showing any discernible part of his body, it stops those from sexualizing him on his off time. so, has HSHQ used his already laden image and sexuality to push further into this sexualization? yes. has fans been conditioned to think of him sexually because of this ingrained narrative? of course. but does that mean we’re all lab rats being fed what they want and we have no say or conscious decision in the matter? no.

many artists use sexuality and sex appeal in their art and images. men, women, non-binary folk etc., etc. but that doesn’t mean they love being sexualized or have no qualms about it. take for example, halsey. she’s never been shy or against showing her sexuality and sensuality in her work, music, and persona. does that make it okay to objectify and sexualize her just because she does that? of course not. do you hear how you sound when you say these things? it’s very concerning. i’m sick of people wanting justifications for sexualizing artists— especially harry. if this was a woman, this argument for or against sexualization wouldn’t even exist. but since it’s harry it’s okay? i’m so tired of it.

Marvel’s really going to make me do this again, aren’t they? *sigh*

Loki (2021) sucks. It sucks in every imaginable way that a thing can suck. It sucks as a Loki series. It sucks as a standalone television show. It sucks from a characterization standpoint. It sucks from a messaging standpoint. It sucks from a storytelling standpoint. It sucks from a technical standpoint. It sucks. And it sucks way worse than Thor: Ragnarok did.

Now, this post is not about telling fans of the series that the thing they love is terrible, nor that they’re wrong for finding enjoyment in it. To each their own, live and let live, etc etc. But much like with Thor: Ragnarok, people who disliked the TV series have taken a lot of abuse for daring to express their honest opinions online. What this post is about is tearing down the strawmen about why people disliked the series (no, it’s not about ship wars or Loki not aligning with our “headcanons”) and compiling the abundance of evidence against it into one easily-accessible and referenceable location—both for people who are genuinely curious why some of us couldn’t be less impressed and also for the sake of those who didn’t like it, that they might feel a little less crazy and/or alone.

OH MY GODD! I was watching a vid on youtube by (HS Love Live) of the “We’re all a little bit gay” moment. If I was writing the series.

Loki after picking up Tesseract, would teleport into Jotunheim. He would instantly go blue, his skin,markings,everything.

He would walk few miles & then he would meet bunch of Frost giants, fight them because they would think he is intruder or something and yes he would fight with magic,like in old Thor script. During this battle this female jotun warrior would appear and she would try to capture him by wrapping some chain around his neck but he would cast a spell and break it shatter it into pieces. They would all be stunned. In this moment he'd say he is Loki of Jotunheim. And he came to claim what is his. That female turns out to be his younger sister,Laufey's daughter, and the series would be about Loki fighting for the throne of Jotunheim.

Jotuns would be split - some on Loki's side,some on hers. Some would be against him because he is a runt and he killed Laufey some would be on his side.

I would also introduce his birth mother, Loki would ask for military help in other rhelms like Vanaheim or Nilfheim even Asgard(where he would clearly state he was mindcontrolled by Thanos during attack on NY, so no going to prison I would once for all address this)

I would explore his bisexuality by Loki having a crush on a male warrior from Vanaheim that agreed to give him a cavalry and also Sigyn who he would meet on Asgard. I'd make her his old friend from childhood that he hasnt met in ages & now he'd fall in love with her.

So we would see Asgard. A lot. Not only as flashback. Warriors 3 with whom Loki would have 1 on 1 open conversation about how they betrayed him in T1, Thor would be there too and Frigga. Actual Frigga not only Loki talking about her.

Now I dont have details but this is concept Ive had in my head since I saw Endgame.

Like most of series his sister that fights against him would be considered villain. Real villain would turn out to be some top brass Jotun who told Laufey to get rid of Loki as baby (so we'd get answer to why he was on that rock) And this guy was putting Loki's sister against him this whole time,telling her she must kill him, she would listen,until she'd find out in some way he was responsible for her brother being abandoned as a baby. That without his involvement none of this would have happened.

She would tell Loki and in finale Loki would battle this guy,one on one,and beat him. Obviously the Jotun is much bigger so Loki would use all his magic to beat him. Loki ends on the throne, Jotuns kneeling.

So that's just concept. I dont have details. There would be battles in Jotunheim, armys of Asgard & other rhelms on Loki's side, Sif & Warriors 3 would fight too, Sigyn would be introduced as skilled fighter too. All of them would gladly kneel too. Loki would this way ensure peace between Asgard & Jotunheim.

So on July 2nd 2020, Eleano posted this picture of Louis wearing the Umbro shirt to her IG story:

It was exciting bc Louis was super MIA during lockdown, and we only got to see him very few times.

His fashion account identified the shirt as a 90s unique vintage shirt, AKA hard to find and one of a kind:

Then, after reportedly isolating at home with friends in LA for months Harry is spotted back in the UK on June 12th 2020. He spends much of June and July and August between England and Italy. 

Louis was pretty much entirely MIA this whole time, except for being placed in London (BLM) on June 6th. London again in July. Being MIA in August except for Eleno’s insinuation of their trip to Antigua. Then spotted at a football game w/ Oli in September, as well as at a pub in Oxfordshire.

Louis was MIA when Harry was spotted wearing his shirt, but they were both in London, obvs.

A week before going back to Italy again to film Golden, on September 18th 2020, a fan runs into Harry walking down the street in London and takes a picture with him:

It was incredible because we hadn’t seen anything like this in so long. They used to share clothes frequently during the band. But this is different because they’re not together 24/7 touring so wearing the same shirt carries a bit more weight. Not to mention that the narrative goes that they haven’t even seen each other since 2016. So this shows that that couldn’t be further from the truth.

It’s not his current management stopping Harry ( as a currently non practicing lawyer I would be willing to bet the farm on that) ….. there are undoubtedly terms in their “1D contracts” which can extend in perpetuity and limit what they can disclose and who knows what else. Contracts can contain clauses allowing for financial remedies/penalties based on “loss of future earnings”. Can you imagine Harry/Louis trying to fight Sony/syco in court and trying to prove that whatever they “did and /or revealed” didn’t cause a decrease in 1Ds overall fanbase/earning potential for the next 10,20 or however many years….. and can you imagine just what those “loss of future earnings” would be calculated as…it could be a massive financial burden. 

In addition, there could be group contracts ( that all 5 boys are party to) as well as separate side contracts ( pertaining to each individual boy personally) so you can’t really make generalizations about/compare the boys situations, we just don’t know, and likely never will. 

One last point….the contracts could include damages/penalty clauses that specify that one members (any one of the boys) breach of the terms of the contract constitute a breach by the entity 1D/all the boys, and as such all boys could face the financial consequences. 

 of course I have no personal knowledge of their contracts, but all of the above is just basic contract 101 and on a very personal note, I have allows suspected that Louis’s role in orchestrating sbb/rbb is a major reason, if not THE reason, he is apparently still “paying” some kind of price and is clearly not free to conduct his affairs without restrictions. Pretty confident he would have had to negotiate some pretty distasteful new terms with syco/sony ( revengeful Simon) in order to avoid being sued for breach of his contract and avoid the “loss of future earnings” damage clause.

I also felt like the RBB/SBB stuff and the weed video might have played a part in the “extra special” treatment louis has gotten.

Yes! I loved that one. It’s beautifully done. I don’t think I have anything exactly like it, but here are some suggestions for fics that have a least a couple of the elements:

heart-shaped bruises by moonshinelouis (M, 2K) This was so sweet and touching and tender. I love reading about Louis supporting Harry, encouraging him to paint his nails and be who he is, and reminding him that he loves him in every way.

To Be Real by Throwthemflowers / @hazzabeeforlou (M, 4K) Based on The Velveteen Rabbit, this one is sweet and sad and magical and I love the way this author writes. Evern though they made me cry.

nobody knows like me by enbyharry / @cisharry (GA, 4K) This fic is honest to god gorgeous. It painted such a clear portrait and moved me to tears––there were so many touching moments. Please read it, it’s really something special.

An Invincible Summer by Brooklyn_Babylon / @twopoppies (E, 45K) this one is mine. The time period is the same, and I think it has similar themes of support and self-realization (although not gender related). Here’s the summary:

Never content to stay in one place for long, a few months down south researching for his novel seemed like an idyllic, slow-paced summer to Louis. He wasn't ready for the blistering heat, the backbreaking work of watermelon picking, or how stifling the attitudes in rural Georgia would feel. And he definitely hadn’t anticipated falling in love with the farmer’s son.

The summer of 1946 would turn out to be everything worth writing about.

Under the Hide of Me by Blake (E, 3K) This fic is honestly just beautiful. There are so many sentences in it that just make my heart break and then soar. And it says so much in such a few thousand words. I could read it over and over. This author has other can fic you can check out here.

When you say you love me, know I love you more by darkofthenights / @jimmytfallon (E, 2.4K) This is such a sweet and lovely fic. The author paints a tender picture of insecurity and intimacy and acceptance.

it's you i want to take apart by orphan_account (E, 6K) This canon fic is a little bit of kink discovery, a little bit of Louis supporting Harry no matter what, and I really, really like this one.

Fertile Ground by Blake (E, 4K) This author explores gender and body acceptance in a way I haven’t seen done much in this fandom, and their writing is so moving. Like, every line packs a punch. This one, in particular, is such a moving portrait of Harry’s struggles with how others see him and how he sees himself, and Louis’ support as they figure it out together.

tie you down so you can float away by alongthewatchtower (NR, 5K) I love the way this is more about helping Harry get out of his head and how Louis is so understanding and supportive.

Take from me my lace (and lipstick too heavy for summer) by metal_eye / @metal-eye (M, 2K) Don’t ask me how this author fits so much beauty and so much depth into so few words. But they do it every time. Read their fics. And go yell and them about how beautiful everything they write is. 

little black dress (it's all right) by istajmaal (E, 8K) I think this might have been one of the very first genderfluid Harry fics I read; this author was ahead of their time way back in 2013. It’s sexy and tender and I just love the way they write.
